I recommend that you plant it far from your garden. I planted one plant in my raised garden bed and it took over the entire bed in just one year. It took me weeks to dig all the strong roots out of my garden. Now it is the queen of a distant garden where it is very happy.
I had a hard time getting Tulsi seeds to germinate in western Washington this year. I figured next year, I would have to do an indoor heat mat germination and you have affirmed this! Thanks for the tips. Dried Tulsi is more potent in tea infusion than fresh - noted! You're urging me to invest in a dedicated spice mill for my teas, too, it really is worth the medicinal boost. I appreciate all the practical advice you give, you're a great communicator, Rosalee.
I love, love, love holy basil. I've also made it as an infused oil. The smell of it is amazing. I like to open my jar of it to get a whiff. Just an amazing herb. I usually make a blend with tulsi, hawthorn leaf, flower and berry. I simmer the berries first before combining with the rest. It's so delicious. I'm going to give your receipe a try. Thanks Rosalee for all that you share.😊
Hello from Trinidad. I really enjoy learning a lot from your videos about herbs. Here we call these bush teas. I love their healing properties and I love to learn as much as I can about them. Concerning holy basil , infertility? Isn't that scary enough to cancel out all these benefits ? Do all basil plants possess this side effect ? If I am not sure I will definitely avoid so please enlighten me.
Tgank you for sharing your wisdom so generously. Tulsi is one of my favorites too. I have several plants on my garden protecting the house and everyone live gere. Plus: Its a perfect companion whenwver I like to pimp up a mal with vibrant energy. Thanks for the cold onfusion tip. Gonna try it right away. Greetings from Cologne, Germany
Thanks for your wonderful knowledge that you have brought to us who belong to all things clean, genuine, natural as well as sharing on how to identify, it’s possibilities whether if it’s edible (leaves, flowers or even the roots). What I really enjoy from watching two other videos you shared information of sources for us to check up on. I have been taking this product in capsule form to treat mainly for a detoxifier to help reduce high levels of uric acid in my body. I am 70 years old, have had two gall bladder attacks in the past and I never want to go through that extreme pain again. I know that uric acid is mainly responsible for the growth of kidney stones, which is why I am taking Holy Basil to help dissolve the stones, and helps to relieve the pain from kidney stones when passing through my system. I am also borderline 2 Diabetes which will help to reduce my blood sugar, reducing excess insulin in my blood as I have very high blood pressure at the moment. The research I am doing says that taking Holy Basil will help my blood sugar levels over long term use. It has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and antibiotic properties. I am taking this in combination with Lungwort and a few other supplements to help with my respiratory disorders which helps my breathing, relieving congestion in my lungs. I am now breathing a lot easier since I have added this to my daily routine to reduce the cholesterol in my circulatory system, kidney, and liver. Keep up your good work in the natural health department.
I love learning about holy basil, and they finally received a beautiful bag of Tulsi from India. That smells wonderful and reminds me of lemon balm! I’ve been drinking the tea and I love it but I love that you said that it can be infused in oil, and I am such a fan when it comes to infusing almost anything in oil! I don’t know what I would do without my plantain and yarrow balms and every time I walk through a park I stopped to look for plantain. I just can’t help it. I’m going to start my Tulsi infusion into some avocado oil that I would love to use for a skin product with a massage as you mentioned or… Sometime in the last week or so I’m sure you mentioned something about you making a cream with your Tulsi infused oil and I would love to know if it was more than adding a mango or Shea butter, etc.! So happy you’re still doing what you do!
I have loved listening to everyone of your episodes, and find your information, not only knowledgeable, but also very thorough. I do have a question though. And some of my readings I have found that Tulsi is contraindicated in those with hypothyroidism. It looks to me this may be linked to a study that was done with mice. In your experience, have you seen this to be a problem? Thank you in advance for your answer.
I love love love Tulsi and try to fit it into any tea blend I make as it seems to make everything more 'rounded' - I don't know how to describe it. Maybe what I mean is it makes all teas better 🤷🏾♀️
I love your channel!! I've planted many herbs in the last few years. Thought I bought holy basil last year, and found out it was thai basil....lol...I love it too. Took your link to get Tulsi seeds, but their are so many different ones. What is the varity you recommend for a tea blend?
Thank you for the incredible knowledge. Much appreciated. I have one observation that I’d like to share, and it’s coming from a very good place, as in I want you to succeed on this channel. That is: if you would consider make less requests of your viewers to subscribe and put comments down, or repeating your web address, then I think it would make folks feel less pressured. It’s a strange thing on RUclips with the etiquette/culture. What I mean is that it seems that viewers want the content providers to get right into the subject matter, not ask too much for subscriptions, and “likes“ and not repeat requests Or information; anything that comes across as self promotion repetitively. You have incredible knowledge, and would like to see that shine through, as your information and expertise speaks for itself, and will make people want to subscribe without your having to ask. On RUclips, all viewers, we all know to like and subscribe already. My very best to you.
I have grown my own holy basil for the past two years and your video helped understand how to best use it tremendously. Thank you. I like to just pop off the flowers of this and other herbs, rinse it and simply pour hot water over it for my tea. Is that okay?
So glad this was helpful! Yes you can make tea that way. In general dried plants are going to make a stronger tea than fresh plants, but if you are simply making an infused beverage to enjoy then that's a fine way to do it.
Thank you so much for this information! Also, I was thinking about making a tincture with it. Can I use all parts of the plant? The flowers, stems, and leaves?
The closest I have to what you are asking is herbswithrosaleepodcast.com which has every episode listed there. I would like to get something even easier set up. It's on the list!
I grow it every year from the seeds I save. I love the smell and nibble on a few flowers now and then. They taste good and smell a little like cotton candy to me.

I’ve got my first back of tulsi leafs. I can’t wait to try it out in one of your recipes. Thanks for sharing your immense knowledge.

Absolutely love this channel. I have a few of your books and love them as well. Thank you for all your wisdom

My favorite is the temperate tulsi or Ocimum africanum. This is sometimes sold as Kapoor tulsi. Enjoy your tulsi!

I love this wonderful information. Will this basil interact with blood dinners?
From what I've read it can help with blood clotting
I’m so glad I found you! ~ Tammy 😊
Hi Rosalee, I love your recipe cards and would like to print them all. Is there a place on your site where you have all of them in one place?
The closest I have to what you are asking is herbswithrosaleepodcast.com which has every episode listed there. I would like to get something even easier set up. It's on the list!

I love holy basil but it’s worsened my thyroid function (I have Hashimotos). So people with thyroid disorder need to be aware.
It did not work for me for lowering blood sugar
thank you
You're welcome
