Wow Nik, look at all those blooms and still loads to come out. She's doing really well for you .I've still not found one in our local garden centres. I expect your garden took a battering in those dreadful winds last night as mine certainly did. Just to top it off, the birds like perching on the rose stems lately so I've had to chop some off where they've bent and split them. Your Lavatera in the background looks lovely. I'm still waiting for mine to flower which should be any day now.

Hi Wendy. Yes, we had the winds, but surprisingly not much damage. It's that thing about ups and downs throughout the season anyway - a lot of the good roses last week are getting blown apart or fading rapidly, but the Ancient Mariner and Sweet Honey have stepped into the breach and relieved them. That Lavatera does put on a very long, colourful show, but it seems to want to take over the flower bed - we cut it back this week before this video. We had our first mole in this garden yesterday - the neighbours have had them very often - fortunately our mole was lying dead at the edge of a flower bed. Maybe he couldn't cope with the cold, wet, windy conditions overnight.

Yep absolutely flying there nik. I think mine this year has about 30 flowers on it tops. No sign of any chunky girth stems coming up this year. Hopefully next year it would have settled. :) but yours is flying. :)

It certainly is, but it's constantly straining towards the sun, as you might expect, so that the Ab Fab I moved (and set its growth back months) is still under threat from the SH's outreaching stems, which I have tied back and put supports on - I may need to move the Ab Fab again (but when it's dormant this time!). Strong winds have spread/flattened my Gabriel Oak these past few days, so I've had to put supports in on that too. One thing I appreciate about the Ancient Mariner, Eustacia Vye, Lady of Shalott and Desdemona is that they don't require much support once they have been in the ground a while.

A Whiter Shade of Pale, yes, I've looked at it and it does look very nice, but although I find some hybrid teas very beautiful, and wouldn't be without my Alpine Sunsets, my natural preference is for floribundas and a bigger splash of colour (maximising the number of roses I can fit in) - I've seen English Miss, which is a similar sort of colouring and a good scent so maybe that is a better option for me. But who knows, one day I may come upon one in a garden centre and think "Gav was right about that one!" and buy it!

Hi Nik, how many buds !?! Amazing, looking so wonderful. Mine is still buds at the moment so I have a little while longer to wait but she's raring to go :) Have a lovely weekend, take care.

It didn't seem to take long for the buds to open, so you should be getting a good show soon. You know how it is with some roses - the buds are tantalising you for weeks or even months before they open. I potted up a tiny rose I found growing in the garden a year or two back, just inches tall, and it had a single tiny bud on it for maybe 3 months, opened up one day and blew apart a day or two later. No more buds. Sweet Honey won't do that!
