Some lovely roses Nik. Oh how we love them. They're certainly responding to your love and attention. I guess it's a two way thing. Cheers! P.

I wish my roses would bloom as profusely as yours Nik. Having said that, I've been really pleased with my Eustacia Vye and Lady of Shalott this year. I wish the weather would would perk up again as I've been in and out of the rain showers. It was a bit too hot for my liking on those two-three days last week. Just a couple of degrees lower would suit me fine. I used to love the sun and going to hot countries but as I've got older, I seem to wilt in it. I've just fed the birds and there's one that's almost touching me in his excitement to get at the mealworms. He's funny to watch as it's like he's doing a little dance.

I think Eustacia Vye and to a lesser extent Lady of Shalott are two of my best bloomers Wendy. I took several cuttings of each a couple of years ago, but only kept one of each myself, and both have been on the decking but are now beginning to take up so much space that I have had to move EV away (I don't know where she will end up) and LoS is "octopussing" her arms out all around herself, so she needs to be moved too. Like you I am less keen on hot weather these days, but I like the fresh air - we were on holiday in Mallorca a few years ago when the weather turned chilly and blustery - there were 3 hardy souls (me included) sitting on sunbeds wrapped up in sweaters and coats. I took a nice photo last week of a male chaffinch feeding its baby on the roof of the birdfeeder - the "baby" was about the same size as the father and stood patiently on the roof while dad flew down, picked a seed off the table and flew it up to "baby", and that happened about half-a-dozen times. A couple of years ago I got a photo of a woodpecker feeding its young on our feeder, and again, just by size, knowing which was the parent and which the child was near impossible - you just had to watch who was feeding who. Let's both hope for a bit more warmth over the coming weeks - but not too much!

Very nice Nik, Abraham Darby is a pretty rose. I hope the planting is going well. I have to get The Ancient Mariner I must put it to the top of the list ! I always appreciate your view at the end of your videos, I do enjoy a good view from a garden it definitely adds something special, I never mind doing the washing up as I have a wonderful view of the hills and over the fields and we do get some amazing sunsets here too. Hope you've had a good weekend, take care.

Thanks Linda. I'm still hoping for Abe to really shine - that's when the colouring turns to a sunset mix and the petals go wild, but unfortunately that doesn't always happen. It's a bit like hoping for a white Christmas. We enjoy sunsets over the hills to our west from our living room - but the bird feeders give our kitchen interesting views too. I think I've achieved a fair amount in the garden this weekend, so that's been good, even if I'm suffering a little now!

I’m looking forward to receiving my Abraham Darby next autumn. I know it’s not the healthiest rose, just the scent alone is a must have. Lovely view !!

I don't know if you saw the photo of AD I posted on my community page 3 months ago? That shows AD at its glorious colourful best, much better than in this video - although its scent is always amazing. I'm making a greater effort to stop AD from getting blackspot and rust this summer.

Yes, Gav, you don't need to spend a fortune to get beautiful roses. JParkers has been a great find for me - letting me try a whole variety of roses in my garden. I'm hoping they will be offering a few new ones this autumn. But sometimes you just have to dig deep into your pocket (yes, DA, I am looking at you!) to get that one rose you just must have!

    Look at that sweet honey!!!!!!
What was the name of the black plant next to your alpine sunset at the start of the video nik?

I think it's a Black Rose (what else?) Aeonium next to the AS. I'd like to straighten up, separate and tidy the two Sweet Honeys, but their thorns are too vicious for me to risk it!
