- February 11, 1989 - After a disappointing 7th place showing in the 1988 NBA Slam Dunk Contest (in which he was less than one season removed from knee surgery on a torn lateral meniscus), 5-foot-7 Atlanta Hawks guard Spud Webb was nearly back in full form for the '89 slam dunk showdown in Houston, advancing to the semi-finals and earning a strong third place finish.
Round 1
First Dunk (Score: 46.8)
Second Dunk (Score: 47.7)
Round 2
Semi-Finals - First Dunk (Score: 47.8)
Semi-Finals - Second Dunk (Score: 44)
I remember watching this on TV. I was so amazed how high he got for his size!!
You can see Spud got his bounce back. In the 88’ contest he was still recovering from his knee injury and the full bounce wasn’t there but 89’ his bounce was 100%! His first dunk the reverse pump was sick!
Exactly and this person has as much bounce as spud webb : m.ruclips.net/video/bjfl3fgw_Ls/видео.html
@ Diaz23- I agree.
Right and he didn't jump off 2 legs in 88 only off of 1. But he's jumping off 2 in this one. Crazy
@@Mike.Sadala yup exactly! Spud bounced back with a bang!
@@Mike.Sadala Spud was still dunking in the 90s. There's a video posted of Spuds rare in game dunks and 3 of them are Dunks from his time with the Sacramento Kings. He still had sick hops at that point!
I watched this with my future wife...5/26/90...still going strong.
Thank you for sharing this video . I wish he tried a new dunk instead of repeating the first one.
Fun fact: This would’ve been the 1st time where all the previous NBA dunk champs would’ve faced each other; but Nance, Wilkins & Jordan chose not to compete due to injuries
2:22 it's so chill to see the other players just being normal, not acting like clowns running around with their arms out "flying" on the court... or holding each other back.
Damn man, I miss those days, respect the player and let him have the attention and not act like idiots.
The pump reverse is very hard to do and he is 5,7
T00 True, and this is coming straight from another Alex T00!!

The hoop looks low man, anyone else see that?
Nope..it’s regulation height.
It's the camera
Looks like a whole lotta traveling
Doesn’t matter in a dunk contest..
@@bobmalack481 that’s exactly what a Slam Dunk Competition is supposed to be.
@@bobmalack481 Well if you think it’s such a bad thing, just don’t watch it! Problem solved
When kenny Smith and Dr j would judge they would look for if a dunker dribbled. So your right in dribbling is important if you want to win a NBA dunk contest.@@creoleDJ
