Let's face it, almost any tall guy can easily learn to dunk, but doing these spectacular dunks at just 5'7" and hitting them all on the first try is truly amazing. Spud Webb had a vertical jump of 46" which was close to Michael Jordan's 48" but he was 11 inches shorter than MJ and his hands were too small to palm the basketball. IMO Spud Webb is the best NBA dunker in history.
nah he was def able to palm the ball keep in mind that the basketballs the nba uses are incredibly grippy and also its not too uncommon for small people to have big hands, my father is also 5'7 and can palm a ball.
He's like a real life created player on an NBA game that you dump all of the stats into while making them super short, and yet they still somehow levitate to the rim. That's exactly what he looks like.
The footage from the ‘86 and ‘87 Midsummer Nights Magic is rare! Awesome that you had those dunks! That charity game was by far the best of any during the offseason.
Spud and Muggsy should be in the HOF for being great at what they was able to do at a high level in the prime of their career for their size and for their teams. Their teams thrived when they became starters by them using their small stature to push the tempo on offense and to cause havoc on defense… outside their solid stats there’s things they did that’s not going to make the stat sheet like deflections preventing the other team from scoring and being part of an extra pass assist they not going to get credit for.
Man Spudnik was a gem and I thank you for this video. He was a phenom...5'7"???? incredibly gifted and exciting. EVERYBODY LOVED HIM. Man this made mt day.
Thank you for this video ! I'm a short dunker (5ft9) and always lookep up to players like Spudd and Nate, and one day I noticed that Spudd and I had the same birthday: 13th of July ! So definitely one of my favourite players ever.
Same goes for me I am also small so I looked up to spudd Nate and muggsy then I noticed muggsy and I had the same bday , Jan 9 then I got all motivated
He overcame everything to get to NBA I remember him in the league he didn't ride the bench he was great on both ends with defense he had huge advantage picking guys taller they'd look down and he'd be gone
I hope that people realize how crazy this was, a guy of that size absolutely flying... And to think that he won a slam dunk contest, he was from another planet.
People forget not only was he 5'7" he also only weighed 133lbs and wore a size 7.5 shoe. Most short guys in the league are still pretty "big" nate robinson for example 5'9" but 180lbs and a size 10.5 shoe. A lot of the "small" NBA guys are still large for their height... if that makes sense. Spudd was not.
I don't think he was even 5'7". Nate himself said he was only a legit 5'7" 1/4"... Spud was probably 5'5" 1/2" to at the most 5'6". And yea, weighed in the 130's his entire career, I don't care what the cards/stats say. No way was he ever over 140 while in the NBA.
One of The best one on the World. Webb is samples on dedication . no one in a billion year again . education inspiration dedication 3 Words make. The diferents never said never and never saids gods abandonate me. Im here never Forget.
The fact that he and other sub 6 foot players had and still have long careers is an accomplishment within itself even if they never achieve star status. It is extremely difficult to make the NBA even if you have the adequate size, skills and athleticism. More so if you are below 6 feet tall.
Spud was different man. 5"7, dunking over people in games. I mean he was doing backward dunks on a fast break. Guys that height just wasn't dunking like that in the 80s and 90s. Of course there were some guys short who could dunk but a lot of guys that height probably didnt even think they could dunk. I believe Spud paved the way for a lot of under 6 feet guys. I believe he gave a lot of guys hope and confidence. Now. Guys are doing eastbays at 5"7 now but you wasn't seeing that in no 80s and 90s from no 5"6-5"7 guy. Spud all day baby😊
.. pretty crazy.. first of all, i bet he wasn’t even 5’7… second, short arms… third, small hands… fourth, he could jump off one leg and 2 legs, equally, most guys can only do one or the other….amazing…
Spud and Muggsy should be in the HOF or at least have their number retired for the team they thrived on in the prime of their career. Players at their stature in not going to dominate with 20-30 ppg, 12 apg, and 5 rpg as a guard that way…
Los mates de Web es el romanticismo del baloncesto... No hay nada igual. En un mundo de gigantes un guerrero mediano les hizo frente a todos y con sus mismas armas. Puro espectáculo y admiración...
This guy is shorter than the 3 WNBA stars who can barely dunk and probably viewed as weaker by a number of women. However his strengths and athletic abilities are amazing
I may be a little bit older than most in here but Spud was fuckin menace to guard and contain he'd steal your ball and then he'd literally jump over a 6ft player check em out
Funny, the new generation uses pathetic excuses to undermine athletes from the past and say they weren't athletic. Well, LOOK at this guy. 5'7 crazy athleticism. Does anyone even have hops like him today?

His dunks look so spectacular, in the contests especially. That 80s Hawks jersey was sick also.

While everyone wanted to jump like Jordan in the 90's I was one of the few that said "Nah, I rather jump like Spudd."
@@foreverlikethestarss Except that Spud Webb admitted in an interview that he could NOT palm the ball and wished that he could.
@@CaneFu damn my bad
He had a 44 inch vertical actually, but still, that's very impressive
Still one of the greatest feats in sports history. Incredible
I’m 30 so I only seen highlights but I’m now just realizing how fast he was with the ball , amazing speed at that
that fast break dunk over magic was in 3 dribbles
True but back on the days Mougsey Bogues was faster and shorter
Spud Webb is def my inspiration one of my top 10 favorite players of all time.
Man, there's some highlights I've never seen before. Thanks for this video. I've been a Hawks fan all KY life and loved when Spudd would play.
He's like a real life created player on an NBA game that you dump all of the stats into while making them super short, and yet they still somehow levitate to the rim. That's exactly what he looks like.
I like making 5’7 post scorers cause that’s literally how I play in 2k and IRL, been working on my hooks and skyhooks
“ THIS IS IT “ 😂😂😂 2:05

This is the best compilation of his dunks that I have ever seen. Congrats for your work because is AMAZING.
Appreciate it :)
How is he not more talked about ? He was super amazing.
He was but remember he wasn't a starter back then

Before Ja Morant Before Derrick Rose Before Nate Robinson and Before Allen Iverson this man right here
Even Michael Jordan was "wowed" during the slam dunk contest

The MAN..watched dis guy against Dominique..AMAZING🏀💪🏿
Im 5'8" and could dunk from when i was 18-26. Spud was my inspiration.
Why did your hops Diminish so Early?
@@vertigobeatz7118 Sometimes you just stop trying to dunk and it affects your bounce.
And Ben Simmons is scared to dunk over Trey Young
NBA too soft these days
He does lol

POUND FOR POUND PROBABLY HAD ONE OF THE HIGHEST VERTS EVER

Pound for pound? A vertical is a vertical 😂
But for a little guy 5'7" Spud had hops bro
Now Spud is the only person I saw dunk over Jordan.
I noticed that too bro?! 😮 I was like wow! 😲 This gotta be 1984 because MJ was in the league a year later..... 😲🍵

Yep, and he was'nt even 5'7". Probably 5'6" TOPS! 135lbs TOPS!
@@joebauers3746exactly. In those days heights were still inflated. I think just maybe a decade ago or less they started going in actual heights.
Did spud just putback dunk on Jordan in the beginning?
Yup
Did he block Shawn Kemp ? 😮😮😮
2:06 Wholesome
He dunked on mj first clip.😮Tough

Grew up with the Webb family. Spud has always been a small but excellent athlete. From Pop Warner to the Pro’s
fantastic mix
Uncle Spud was ah problem on that NBA Street Vol 3 😎🍻🍺
His sister was my substitute teacher in Dallas!! We all loved her as she was as sweet as can be!!

My idol growing up!
big respect to those average guys like Spud or Allen Iverson, they slashed the giants with their exceptional athleticism
Everybody loves Spud
Guy's a BEAST!
Spud was a Little Giant that towered over the tallest trees!
Would think he had the all time highest vertical but goat mj has that even still in 2023….closest man to ever fly
The best dunker in tha NBA

after Spud Webb birthday today?
(Spud Webb turns 60 today)
4:50 Spud Webb has MAJOR boostee's!
He did Dominique's dunk! I remember that. It should have been a 50 but they gave him a 46.8.

Unbelievable.....jeepers
very first highlight, he dunks on MJ...
imagine what he would have done at 6'0"
Spud vs Nate Robinson
What the hell is his vert?
5' 7'" ? im 5' 9" and can barely touch the net.
Damn, Mike got tip yammed?😂
Yet there's a certain fan base out here trying to rewrite history to say that players from the 90s and before weren't athletic...
Jordan had the finess Webb had the best style pound for pound these two are the best dunkers the NBA has had not to mention Wilkins and the Dr
imagine getting blocked by someone that’s 5,7 😭
Defying gravity
Hawks never won anything while he and Dominique were there, but I guess they kept the seats filled anyway with those highlights
They didn't win nothing when they wasn't there
12:04 was the dunk jordan did.
when he came from the (DOTTED)..... i knew then
rises from 1.50cm the ground
Why players so blurry back then?

Yes it is
