    When I was 10 yesrs old our family was in desperate situation. 6 kids in family. We received food for 9 months. Delivered to us every 2 weeks. We did what wirk we could. Worked on a pear orchard, tomato farm and on the canary. There was never one negative word said to us.

    My family was helped by this program. It is not a handout. It is a program to get you back on your feet. But for the record, the food is better than what you can buy in a store.

    Something that they don't really go into detail is that if you start working for one of their Deseret Industry stores is that they fund education. Couple years after my divorce I found myself working for fast food and I wanted to get out so I went applied to work at DI and they funded me to get my CNA and I am proud to say but I have a fabulous job and I could not have done it without them and now I'm looking to get back into school to be a medical assistant thereby showing that I want to be prosperous and able to support myself without government welfare.

We should help each other in times of hardships and natural disasters. A good church always comes prepared for that disasters for their church obligations towards God's human creations who is made in his very own image. Merging Ty Tanus' and Iowa Guy's comments, the precise application can and does vary from one bishop to another and at one time or another, as each bishop is an individual with varying personality, experience and views, and hence, judgment. There are standard general guidelines and oversight at the leadership level above bishops (stake, akin to a Catholic diocese). A bishop has the discretion to ask or direct recipients to do or contribute certain things--such as possibly developing and reviewing personal or family budgets, assisting with some service or volunteer work, or being directed to seek and utilize employment resources. But as mentioned, it is not uncommon that nothing is asked at all, especially when the assistance is only one or a few months in duration. And of course, it would make a difference whether an old, disabled widow, a family with children or a young, capable individual, etc., is being helped, as to anything that might be asked. But anything asked is not viewed as payment or repayment. In some areas, certain social services such as personal, marriage or family counseling are also available, as are addiction recovery help.
      There are measures to protect from abuse of the system and typically, each bishop can only extend so much assistance at one given time (in reality, the assistance available is limited by available resources donated and produced, so general budgeting/limiting resources systemwide is necessary, though each locale does not need full balance every given month).
      I appreciated the insight one bishop shared in the video the humility to realize that it could easily be himself in one of the recipient's situations. At least all that I have seen or experienced in the Church's welfare system, is positive, humane, nonjudgmental encouragement of and assistance for people to get past hurdles and rough spots.

      This is Propaganda. What they will NOT tell you is that these goods are for Mormons ONLY. Also you have to be a member of the LDS Church in "Good Standing" - i.e. a regular Tithes payer, and attender of LDS Church Services. Try getting help if you are a Catholic or a Baptist. The Mormons believe that all other non-LDS Christians and their Churches are Apostate and of the Devil. They will not tell you that in a feel good propaganda piece like this...

      Mike Manners: Your church doesn't provide for the needs of your needy?

    • @janemariehoward
      @janemariehoward 4 года назад +8

      You're very ignorant about this. For one thing, if the LDS Church is providing for its own members that means they're not on welfare or using food stamps.
      Secondly, there have been times where victims of natural disasters have been afforded the opportunity to obtain food from the Bishop's Storehouses regardless of their religious or non-religious affiliation.
      Finally, why are you so negative about a church that helps its own members? What's stopping other churches from doing the same thing??

    • @LiveHappy76
      @LiveHappy76 2 года назад +1

      @@mikemanners1069 Sorry you seem to have a specific negative experience in mind. Bishops and individuals in the church are not perfect individuals, nor is anyone who may be a recipient of help. The actual application of resources can and does vary, bishop by bishop and at any given time, as, less general oversight at the leadership level above bishops, each bishop is permitted personal discretion and acts in his conscience and perception of divine direction for each case and situation. Each bishop is an individual with varying personality, experience and views, and hence, judgment. I don't know how commonly people not from the church ask help from it, but it is true that the priority is to care for our own and the numbers should naturally reflect this. With those who are not in good standing and not paying tithes, at a bishop's discretion, if he sees that more than just some temporary financial thing outside someone's control is out of order in the person's life, yes, he could call the church member to some degree of repentance. If someone is humble and honest about their baptism promises to God, this shouldn't actually be a problem, rather a welcome opportunity to repent. For someone feeling proud or entitled, I see how it could be a barrier. But it is not a universal, general policy not to help a member who hasn't been faithful.
      I speak from the position of having been under 20 different bishops in 4 different states in almost 40 years baptized in the church, and having personally received assistance under about 4 of those bishops. One of those times, I was receiving help while I was not in good standing and not a full tithe payer.

      We have seen this program bring joy to so many we cannot count them, including our own family when we lived in Houston, and suffered serious unemployment in a depressed economy. Practical help came from people who understand that each person needs to feel they have done their part, as much as they can, so that self-respect is preserved, and the person leaves with all that meets their physical needs as well as giving them a spiritual uplift . It is truly a miracle to behold, and every Mormon leader takes responsibility for ALL the people who live within his jurisdiction, no matter what their religion, or IF they have any religion at all. If you want to see God's plan carried out in a most refreshing way, look into this. And if you ever do donate, you can be assured that EVERY penny will go to the needy, because in addition to giving a significant amount out of their monthly salaries ALL of their lives, they give of their time in a significant, giving up two years of their lives, even when old and retired. On those missions, they may be the ones distributing the donations to the needy, so your donations are not even used to pay the people who hand them out ---it's all part of the "SERVICE" this amazing religion does in EVERY part of the world. Take a look at lds.org and the charitable deeds, major projects etc, being done every day.

I can say that in good conscience because 1 I was Catholic. 2, in the about 200 years the Catholic church was obviously formed AFTER Constantine the great, not Jesus and the apostles, the catholic church had no such grand system like this. And it very much could have because the ancient grand Israelite Joseph, son of Jacob/ Israel, pulled it off in very ancient Egypt. People are going to hate and try telling me oh wait fool the Catholic church is the biggest christian (half paganistic all due respect) church with the biggest donations. K that's great but it took well over 1500 years to do so??? Hmm.....

      Thank you for asking so respectfully. :) There are several dietary guidelines, known as the Word of Wisdom, that are followed by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. One of the guidelines is to refrain from coffee, tea (herbal is okay, just not any made from tea leaves), any form of alcohol or tobacco. We believe that, while we may not always understand the things God asks of us, those who obey are blessed. The Word of Wisdom was given in the early 1800's before medical science really understood the harm of tobacco, caffeine, and other addictive stimulants we have been counseled to avoid. I hope this answers your question. If not, please go to LDS.org and search "Word of Wisdom" -- there are many more in-depth discussions there. :)

      Di Ce I'd like to add my 2 cents and testimony to the word of wisdom. The basis of the word of wisdom (to me) is to keep our lives centered on the savior.
      Think of how many people can't go a day or even an hour without smoking. How some people buy Starbucks every morning. If someone cannot function without a coffee in the morning, or need to smoke daily, is their life actually 100% centered on the savior? This is just my opinion, but no. I don't think so. The word of wisdom encompasses not just dietary guidelines, but even where our attention should be. So of someone is addicted to let's say their Netflix account, and just has to have Netflix all the time and without it they don't function, is their life centered on Christ?
      Tbh I was beginning to become addicted to video games when I was only 14. I would sit down on Saturdays and play from sunrise to sunset without eating until dinner. And when I realized this when I turned 17, and I got serious about my faith, I decided to prove to myself that I don't need games every day to make myself function. So on my sabbath I do not play games whatsoever. But dedicate the day to studying the scriptures and helping around the house.
      Since taking up this self-discipline, rule. My sabbath has felt immensely more consecrated, and the spirit is stronger in my week and sabbath. Because I am more focused on the savior in my efforts, than I am focused on my high score.
      This is my witness and I appreciate anyone who read until the end.

      We have the same angels as you, we simply believe in more. We believe that angels’ names are given to them after they become angels, and are different than those on earth. The angel Moroni is called simply Moroni because it is his earthly name instead of his heavenly name. In a similar manner, Christ was called Jesus on earth, but is known as Jehovah in his exalted form. Also, Moroni comes from a different language than the other angels’ names.

      @@philipcochran1972 God sends his angels with purpose. He chooses their names. The name Mormon comes from the root meaning "idiot" in any language. All languages are derived from a common denominator. So regardless of what continent it came from the fact of the word root remains.
      Please pray for the truth. Don't you find it odd that Joseph Smith claimed this religion came from a different continent? Study your church history. I mean REALLY study the origins. It is very disturbing and that is why People are leaving the Mormon church. They discover that these claims are false. Nothing can be historically proved in any way. Only the true church can.
