Love that Peter's channel has turned into an amalgam of history, anthropology, geography, religion and philosophy, all with a very simple approach. Everything else like this is way too hyperfocused on one aspect. Peter's giving us the everyday look at tons of human communities all across America, which is vested with so much of world-influencing history. Thank you sir, long may it continue!

@@crowcrow1465 I agree. I just thought the 'invitation for dinner interview' with the Mormon group in Provo , was a little mushy. I thought he was going to explore the complete political control the church has over the entire state. The U.S. constitution clearly separates the two. There have been wrongful execution in the state because the church strongly condones the death penalty. They use the "eye for an eye" saying in the Bible to justify their reasoning.

I grew up in Snowflake and am related to all the interviewees on this video. I had the best childhood anyone could imagine there in Snowflake, all the family and friend relationships are priceless.

I lived there too! I really had the best memories from there. The road to our house was dirt. Still wonder to this day what it would be like if my family stayed there.

Hi Peter, I wasn’t sure the best way to reach out but I hope that this message finds you. I just have to tell you how much of an impact you have had on my life brother. My world turned upside down during Covid, after a horrible divorce and being separated from my two young kids, I fell into a long-term and somewhat complex depression and felt completely stuck. I can say with complete certainty that your videos are the reason I am here right now and why my life is starting to go in the direction that it is. Your videos gave me real connection when I was stuck in self-isolation and did not know how to get out. Thank you Peter

Hopefully it’s at least taught you to get out and explore your surroundings, meet new people and put things in perspective. Peter has so many videos and so many interactions with people from all walks of life that even though you’ve been going through a rough time, the positives CAN outweigh the negatives if you are willing to take them in….
From spending a day with Peter I'd say he has an innate love for mankind!
The great impact Peter's work has on me is that it teaches me rather deeply about the stuff I only knew bits and pieces from the "media". Born and raised in Ukraine I always saw Mormon missionaries who were teaching English, Biblical classes, volunteering in the local communities. But I honestly never knew a lot about them up until now.

Mormons call themselves christian but they do not believe in the Godhead (the Father, Son and Holy Spirit). They are the largest cult in America.

They are not Christians. Very little, they believe DOCTRINALLY lines up with historical Christianity. They are nice and decent people but what they believe does not equal Christianity.

if you can, you should visit the Mormon compounds in Mexico. That would be super interesting.

@@leemontoya8028 they went to Mexico to avoid persecution for polygamy. They had no food but they had a knowledge of farming. They had to pay off the federales and local government to stay. ... it had little or nothing to do with missionary work at that time.
Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico. The Romneys (Mitt Romney) are from there. Pretty interesting to have a bunch of English speaking white Mormoms in the middle of Mexico.

Snowflake, AZ was named by the Snow family and the Flake family.
I agree, he did a good job and you can tell he's just a regular guy who lived his life in the community and the religion (as opposed to being a paid representative of the religion with scripted/sanitized answers)

There are some good documentaries out there about Mormonism on RUclips. One is, "Test of a prophet the Bible vs. Joseph Smith", "The Lost Book of Abraham", and the last is "DNA vs. Book of Mormon".
I am not religious at all, and tend to steer clear of it, but I could listen to Keith talk for hours! He is such a kind, gentle, intelligent, open minded and well versed man. He’s a Not your typical in your face kinda guy that I respect and admire.

I have a home right outside of Snowflake and my kids live there in Snowflake. We aren't LDS but I love that town and am crying because I miss it. This was wonderful to see.

Some of your videos should be standard watching in high school classes. Not just this subject, but ones from your other travels across USA and the world. You ask the right questions without sounding bias, and get very detailed and informative responses.

WOAH! Did anyone else catch this… the Mormon guy saying “several hundred Navajo kids lived in government sponsored dormitory schools here because THERE WAS NOT ADEQUATE EDUCATION ON THE RESERVATIONS“. I think Peter should do a series on that topic, the American Indian boarding schools, forcing children into assimilation. There are still plenty of survivors around and school buildings.
If you actually know the history, it's closer to what he described than what you described. Living and education conditions were (and are) horrendous on the reservation.

@@robbhays8077 An estimated 50,000 Native American children went through the program many came forward and claimed they were sexually abused during then, nothing good comes out of forcibly converting and assimilating anybody it’s horrible it’s crazy Mormons are proud of it they also think us natives are dark because we sinned

I grew up a member of the church in snowflake, although I am no longer active in the church, I am truly thankful for that little town and the beautiful people in it who helped create the childhood I lived. Thank you for sharing.
I have been in mormon´s temple even I´m an atheist, it had open door event after it was build. So I guess it was once in lifetime for me to get in. It was beautiful inside. It had huge chandeliers and I felt so peaceful in there. There were many different kind of rooms and paintings on the walls.
Any time a new temple is built or undergoes major renovations and reopened there is always a couple months long open house for the community to come and visit the temple. I am glad you had the opportunity to visit one.
I'm a "mormon" and we believe that peaceful feeling you felt in the temple is God speaking peace and love to you. I'm not sure of you believe that but, regardles, I'm glad you felt that way😊
Not sure where you live, but temple open houses are going on frequently these days.

Yes fairytales just like my ex religion JWs. They have so many similar things, that exmo youtube videos have been huge help my exit journey from JWs. JWs doesnt have only JWs places, everyone are welcome to everywhere to visit, nothing like mormon´s temple. No secret rituals. Only one book is forbidden for non male and you need to be an elder to get it. I knew that book but my JW elder dad did good job to hide from me when I was little girl. I got the copy of it and I have been reading most part of it just cos I´m curious. If you stop to be an elder they need to give that book back. Sorry not sorry that I have read it as female. 😂

Wild stuff Peter! Growing up in AZ it was funny that Snowflake was always called a "Morman" town and now I know what everyone meant. I've been there many times through the years visiting friends. Thanks for spotlighting a good, honest people and community. Talk about a small world, I've been in/at several rodeos that Reed announced and love the family connection that Sheriff Clouse appeared in another video! Thank you so much for finding Keith and adding another chapter in this awesome series. I think I'm like most of your followers that appreciate your take on topics that inform/teach us about things, people and places we only know bits and pieces about. Can't wait to see what's next!

I'm from Mesa, Arizona. I also happened to be a descendant of Erastus Snow who is my 4th great grandpa. I've been to Snowflake once as a kid. All the people i've ever met from snowflake or friends i've had that have ties to Snowflake have been some of the best people! Also, this gentlemen Keith just seems so genuine and kind. Love this video Peter!!

My parents worked in that temple for many years. I grew up in Eagar about an hour from Snowflake. It warms my heart to see Peter visit this area.
Great job showcasing some of the different lifestyles and communities from the mormon faith. I served in the military with an LDS who I considered my best friend up until he passed away 2 years ago. I learned a lot from him over the years, but this series has shown me a lot more. It was great to see the sheriff you had in the native series too.
Peter my wife and I get more excited for these than the Netflix series. That says something about where media, and content is going.

I grew up in Alabama. I moved to Arizona for a new life because I had friends there. I remember there being a thrift store across the street from where I lived that sold stuff for extremely cheap. I swear I could get a button up dress shirt and some job interview dress pants for only like $6. I kept wondering how the store made a profit off of it, just to find out they don’t. It was owned by the Mormon church, and they made it very inexpensive just to help people. They even would even give you a Book of Mormon for free at the checkout. That told me everything I needed to know about LDS. They’re a bunch of loving and caring people who truly want to do good in a world of wrong.
The thrift store was Deseret Industries (D.I. for short) and it's a great resource for many people! I'm glad you found value in it

Thank you Peter for your respectful and skilled interviews into the lives of so many diverse people. It’s a joy to learn from and about others.
My ancestors are some of the Mormon pioneers that settled Southern Arizona. They settled the area around Tombstone, before it was ever a thing & other cities in the South East. I’m super grateful to have that heritage and I appreciate all they’ve done for this great state.
My mother’s family had a ranch just north of Benson.
I never met my mom’s father and only seen my mother’s mother once so I don’t know anything about that side of the family.
Their last name was Gibson and supposedly my grandmother was born in Mexico.
Peter, I just love your channel. So positive & uplifting. You make learning about different groups of people intriguing as well as informative.

Peter is an absolute genius. Peter's talent had superceded that of youtube. Most underrated there is!
I grew up and live in Mesa (which was founded/settled by Mormons, as are many of the cities in the Phoenix Metro area), spent many summers around the Rim and White Mountains (which is where a lot of these small Mormon-founded communities like Snowflake and Taylor are). Mormons are good people, peculiar and not without faults, but I generally found them to be awesome neighbors and friends and I'm glad series like this shows them as they are. Some of their beliefs and ways are strange and different to me, but having grown up with plenty of LDS friends, they aren't as bad as they are sometimes portrayed to be.
I think the LDS church should be a disband
@@janiceellerholz-helton324 Well, notice I kept my comments focused on Mormons (the individuals) and didn't mention their church. As far as I can tell, there is plenty of corruption of hypocrisy in their church. There are some channels here on YT with ex-Mormons who discuss it in detail (and it looks like Peter just released a video talking with an ex-mormon about why they left, but I haven't watched it yet).
I just wanted to say, in general, they are good group of people (no less deserving of our understanding than groups like the Amish or Catholics). Just another group of people who believe different things, but by and large, they are family people are very willing to help people out.

I moved to Snowflake 5 months ago then just moved to an even smaller town 40 miles away 4 weeks ago. My first time living in Arizona and I’m loving it. I resigned from the LDS church before I moved here and I still fit in great because I lived the common culture here faithfully for 53 years. I’m a very happy non-Mormon living in the heart of northern AZ MormonLand and it’s pretty great so far! Much better than the 33 years I spent in Salt Lake City. Thanks for this great series, Peter! You make my favorite content!

@@surfingtothestars I agree with that! I was born and raised in San Diego,CA and my Mormon life was WAY different there than in Utah.

I'm a Salt Lake Mormon, but have lived in Colorado as a cadet at the Air Force Academy, in Texas as a professor at Texas A&M, as a professor at Univ of Utah, as a professor at Idaho State Univ, as professor in Minsk, Belarus, and as a science lab administrator in Sydney, Australia. So I have seen quite a bit from the secular point of view at a variety of places.
My point is that Mormons can be a lot of different things. Salt Lake Mormons are seen as different from Utah Mormons. Idaho Mormons are different just as Arizona Mormons are different. The competition as to who is more sanctimonious? I think what is in the hearts of Mormons is more enduring than what you may see on the street. It can be said that even the most pious from any location can either be sincere or a fraud. I have seen fraud even in the loftiest pillars of the community from the wealthiest neighborhoods along the Wasatch Front. My problem is that when I took upon myself the Code of an Air Force Office at USAFA, I also committed to the non-tolerance clause of the Honor Code. While I don't disavow the religion because of a few bad apples, I also cannot fraternize with them, and I will not lecture them because that would be useless for a sanctimonious hypocrite. So I just get along with them and keep to myself.
Now I am not resentful. I have known a lot of good ones that are truly sincere and honest people. But I don't have time to deal with the others as I am a professional that has a lot on my plate with malfeasance in my professional community that places lives in my sphere of responsibility at risk. I manage and administer research nuclear reactors, so I dont'' have time for insubordination, ignorance, and immaturity.
Now there is something I want to say about Snowflake and Colorado City. These are genuine people. They are sincere. You have gotten the real deal with them. I saw nothing that I thought was phony. I would have any of them as neighbors any time. I can't say that about some of the east-side Salt Lake neighbors. And that I think is what the difference is between Salt Lake Mormons and Others. However, a few among the others are intolerably, overly pious "seminary jet-setters" that are a little too much for me to gut. There is a fine line. And I think the world sees the same. My 2nd great grandfather was a Methodist Episcopal lay preacher from the Iowa circuit during the last half of the 1800's, so I see this from that perspective.
If only the church leaders would comply with the noncompliance honor code. Wouldn’t that be something?

I am Mormon by birth but no longer am one, but I have enjoyed your videos so much, and especially this one. They are so adorable !!! They remind me of my Mormon settler family and ancestors. My Great Grandma was that head pioneer/storyteller of another small town settled by historic pioneer families. They are hardworking , faithful , full hearted people with so many fun stories :)

What I see in some of these wonderful videos from here in the UK is not just the interesting bits about the differences between humans, but also how at heart a lot of us have similar family values and that so many people are good on this planet. Thank you to the people of snowflake for giving us a look into their lives.

I grew up in AZ as a Mormon and now live in Utah as a non-Mormon. I will say there is quite a difference in Mormons from
Utah vs outside the bubble like this man here. I left the religion for the history but this is the Mormonism that I will always support - general kindness and empathy for others (you don’t have to be religious to learn that but growing up Mormon definitely instills these values in you). Loved this video! Thanks for sharing this series with us ❤
The pure true religion always calls one back
I grew up in Phoenix and then moved to Salt Lake (I live in Tooele now). The more I learn about the history of the faith, and the more that history is clarified by reputable historians, the more I love it and draw closer to the church.
I am jewish and have always felt a kinship with the Mormons. Tremendous respect for their culture

Love it! My extended family is from St. John’s, AZ near there. The number of national politicians, judges, prominent businessmen, church leaders, University presidents, and other VIPs that have come out of that little corner of the world is simply astounding. About 8 different US senators have ties to the area. I lived there for a summer doing a legal clerkship and tried to learn as much as I could about the history of the area. It has an amazing history, better than any Western. Still love to go back when I can on the family homestead up in the White Mountains.

I have loved these LDS videos, Peter. My mom grew up in a very small Mormon community outside Gallup New Mexico called Ramah. They lived on a ranch and worked along with the Indians. This was 1950s. We visited this area last summer. It’s literally out in the middle of nowhere and a beautiful, wild and an untamed place. The only church in the middle of the community is LDS. Still lots of native Americans in the area.
My grandma grew up there as well she was a Wilkins and Bloomfield

I'm so glad you showed the rural LDS perspective! I grew up in the Salt Lake Valley and now live in a small town in Central Utah. It is such a different feeling and I've grown to love it so much
Aloha Peter, you need to come here to North Shore, O’ahu. When I moved here from the continent I was really surprised at the large population of LDS. The temple in Laie is gorgeous. Laie is also home to BYU-Hawai’i and many of their students work at Polynesian Cultural Center and represent a large percentage of Micronesian and South Pacific island nations. I don’t know much about LDS and am personally not LDS but I am fascinated and would love to learn more about the history here. Mahalo!

As much as I do not agree with what the LDS religion preaches, well most religions really… this series has been really insightful. I come from a country where religious influence is becoming non-existent and we do have Mormons but it’s been interesting to hear it from the people themselves.
If you disagree with "most religions" then probably you don't understand their doctrine. Pretty rich what you said when you admit that you "come from a country where religious influence is becoming non-existent."

I am not Mormon but live in a LDS community, I like the way the city government is run, and the and respect they have for the police and authority. I'm impressed with the cleanliness and dedication to keep it that way. Peter has brought light to a religion that has been denigrated for decades. 😊

My mom grew up in Snowflake and her parents kept their house there until they passed a few years ago. We would go up from our home in Phoenix to spend the summers up there. It was, in a word, idyllic. I love Snowflake and the people there. Seeing that you explored the town and visited some of my old friends and relatives makes me so happy!!!

Another awesome video. What you do is truly so important and I thank you. I'm one of the Mormons who lives in northwest New Mex. I have relatives in the Snowflake area who pioneered to that whole region.
I worked with a member of the LDS community in my advertising career. He was a model citizen, hard working, very successful. Graduated from BYU. He was a good example of how a person could flourish being raised in a community where there is a high degree of certainty in day-to-day life. That's the good side. On the other hand, that "certainty" in beliefs becomes malignant when it becomes intolerant or suspicious of others, particularly with those outside the walls of their community (Warren Jeffs). I admire communities like this when they can provide the foundations of a balanced, successful life. That said, the high degree of regimentation that comes with living in a community like this is not for me. But, through Peter's interviews, I can see and understand how necessary it is for others.

Interesting for you to admire a healthy religious upbringing in other people but it isn't for you. Something to be said for people at least trying to hold themselves accountable and strive to live a higher standard of living and that will certainly be reflected in other areas of their life. Are you saying you found another way to accomplish these attributes or you are content without them?

Some of us understand the disregard for life. Some can’t function without a disregard for life. Maybe those who believe in a hell, a place where there is no justice or justification, just vengeance, are actually allowing the rest of us to live out our lives because of their faith in vengeance.
There is no greater disrespect for life than to ignore what would be after that ‘glorious’ day of incomprehensible death, destruction and finality.
@@WranglermanLevi I am the product of 16 years of Catholic education, much of that courtesy of nuns and brothers. I am thankful for my very disciplined education and all the experience it afforded me. There are parts I don't agree with, but, that's ok. My nature is too curious to be comfortable in the "certainty" that defines a community like LDS. They would throw me out after too long if I was a member.
Joemartino I’m LDS and an extremely curious person. Not all LDS folk are cookie cutter or agree with all beliefs in the church. With that said, you can still be an active member and question things. That’s how we learn. How sad would it be if we blindly agreed with everything we were told?

Thank you Peter for your coverage and journey learning about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I just received my Endowment yesterday and had a confirmation of the Savior Jesus Christ. My road as a convert is different from those with historical pioneer roots. The Temple is truly something different and completely respected by the faithful. Congrats! I like how the interviewee said he wishes he was born 100 years ago so he could have the pioneer experience. I feel the same way sometimes when I read through my ancestors journals. It’s exciting that you get to be a pioneer now and set a legacy for your family in the generations to come!

It’s so important to open our minds (if you choose ) to the idea that we are still people with our own beliefs and opinions is ok.
