Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints here. Have a year supply but am working on a two year supply and continuing to store my long term 30 year.
The key is to rotate it and incorporate it into your food.
We are fast approaching a time when we will be surviving off our food storage alone. Covid was a test. EVERYONE should be storing food, water, medicines, and anything you else may need for over a year.
We have been counseled and warned for decades. Glad my grandparents instilled in me this desire to prepare.
Mix storing freeze dried food mostly then can food and grow things in a garden. Gardens are a huge learning process you cannot just have seeds and hope for the best. The prepared shall not fear.

This is really decent content! Please keep in mind that the amounts you’re giving out are per average adult. Just a little side note, the “Mormon” nickname is just that, a nickname and not something they love being referred to. If you want to find the actual real info, look up the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Every Needful Thing, a preparedness planner, is an excellent resource. Ezekiel 38:7, Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that one assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them”. As Christians we are suppose to serve people around us, so how do we do that if we are not prepared and self reliant?!

The corn it is referring to is like deer corn, but for human consumption. You have to grind it just like wheat. It is cornmeal so can be used for cornbread, tortillas, etc. It used to be easy to find in Costcos etc but you typically have to order it now.

Put some cracked Salt & Pepper & a little Garlic Powder (or fresh sauteed garlic in olive oil in a pan---pour that on a plate) then get some really good (either Italian Artisian Bread or nice Steak or Spoillette rolls or Amoroso) and break the bread up into pieces and dip it into the olive oil. My mother was Myrna Jenson.
She was called by Harold B Lee to put together the churches emergency prepared system in 1972.
(Me and my little sisters were dragged all over😂).
The churches system is planned like this, not for individual families, but all food stuffs in a shtf collapse event, will be gathered into a bishops storehouse, then be distributed to the members based on needs so everyone gets enough.
It is called the law of consecration and will be followed by the members.
These lists are as supplements to what most have on hand for daily living.
I.E. you need sauce for the pasta, you need spices and butter to prepare rice.
    Anyway,
Corn, cold dehydrated maise can be used in place of jerky.
Native Americans throughout their history used nibblets to sustain them without anything else.
Water is used for 2 weeks only because it is a replenishable product from anywhere.
Instead of storing water, get filter straws and water purifiers (500 gallon).
Also add a 100lb lpg tank.
This makes cooking and water purifying soooo much easier when the grid is gone.
FYI. If you do dehydrated foods, get rid of the useless heat trays!
    This is not dehydrating!
Use the cold system, food will have a shelf life of 10 years just actually SITTING on your shelf! no jars or cans. No vacuum sealers. Just put it in a paper bag.
bugs or rodents won't touch it and I don't know why, they just don't. No bad bacteria growth or molds either.
    Really enjoyed, thanks

If you're not much of a cook maybe the foods you eat are already salted. When cooking from scratch (beans, rice, oatmeal, pasta, baked goods, bread) all need some salt. Without salt you'll end up fatigued, heat stroke. Your heart needs it. Imagine having to walk to the grocery store or farmers market, round trip 5 miles in the heat carrying a duffle bag on your back full of food. You're going to sweat like crazy and lose salt

The Eskimos ate 99% carnivore, whale, whale blubber, other fish, moose, caribou.... they smoked the meats to preserve. In their spring/summer brought berries and a few nuts that they feasted on (a sweet treat) then dried and stored for winter.

I grew up in Louisiana and one of the main staple was beans & rice at least once a week. Mostly on Monday, cause in the old days Monday was wash day and other stuff too. So putting the beans on to cooking all day meant at the end of the day you had rice to cook and had a meal.

These amounts you are quoting are *per person*, so 15 pounds of powdered milk per person, 400 pounds of grain per person. Understand also that these guidelines are the minimum requirements and are akin to starvation rations- like what prisoners in concentration camps were fed. They will keep you alive but not much else.
Each pound of powdered milk generally makes about a gallon of milk. Oils or other fats are important as some vitamins require fats to be absorbed by the body. Sugars and fats are important for preserving foods. Corn can be either dent corn or popcorn that you grind, or you can store it as cornmeal. It’s just a suggestion for another type of grain you can store to add variety.
Once you have these basics, immediately begin to add variety to it through canned fruits and veggies and meats.
While these guidelines are a recommendation of easy to store foods, they are not the only way to do food storage. Another way to plan your storage is to come with 7-14 days of meal plans that your family likes to eat. Come up with an ingredient list. Then multiply that out to a year. Now you have a shopping list for things your family actually likes.
Best to you and yours as you prepare!

    • @pamelabratton2501
      @pamelabratton2501 2 года назад

You would be fed but *VERY* hungry. Not able to do much work of any value on these rations. I measured it out one time, the per day portions. (Don't ask me to do it again-do the math yourself!) You gonna starve. This may help you until your garden starts to feed you, but that is about it.

    Beware....
General lists are a good starting point to generate ideas and identify areas where one is deficient in preps.
But I would urge? Do not go out and buy stuff that you do NOT eat on a normal basis, or stuff you don't really llike.
We here? Have no use for beans and oats. Nobody likes em, nobody eats em! So at best, you're stuck with a trading item.
Now.... judging on how many of our fellow Americans out there are NOT prepping or taking it seriously? Will they even HAVE anything to trade for your unwanted excess?
Take a good look around at your immediate neighbors for a start.... How many of em do you estimate are gonna get caught flat-footed when the bottom falls out? Both non-prepared at all or severely UNDER-prepared?
And what happens 2 months in when you go waving your beans and oats around to trade and they are starving? You just tipped your hand that you have food preps!!!
All of this stuff comes into play and must be thought through.

I would think Mormons will be the most prepared, not only do they already build their own home and live off the land, not to mention unlike the rest of us, they won't even know what their missing

Question. Is this per person or household?

  • @kj7653

Sadly, most Mormons do not have lots of food storage. What started out as a pioneer survival skill has now become a lost art. Most Mormons do not have a years supply.

I beg to differ. I am a member and I know A lot of other members that have at least a year supply. Almost everyone I grew up with has one.
      I myself do.
You would be surprised how many do.

    This list is a minimum.
    Just the basics.
Probably less than 10% of Mormons even have this.

Corn is in a #10 can. The church has a whole food preservation system. Freeze dried mostly, but not all. We should talk and I can maybe make it make sense?
