      The name is derived from asika(meaning sea lion) + laine (French for queen). It is also thought that Sirene (French for mermaid) may be one of the origins of the name.

    It’s said that the meaning of the name was added after the character was made.
    Originally, the designer Atsuko Nishida was asked to design an electric type Pokemon. At the time, the motif wasn’t really specified so Atsuko Nishida drew a character inspired by squirrel. She then named it “pika-chu”. “Pika” is for people to easily understand it’s an electric type Pokemon but “chu” was added just because it sounded nice.
    When the Pokemon creator Satoshi Tajiri wrote the character descriptions, he changed it to a mouse because… “chu” is a mouse sound 🐭

    Also, pikachu's "pika pika" is a phrase that makes sense in japanese and means something like "very sparkling". similar repetitions happens with waku waku = so exciting (anya), fuwa fuwa = so fluffy (k-on), kira kira = glittering, kochi kochi = here here (literally that) and so on

      Not a rodent. Ochotonidae Princeps. More related to Leporidae (rabbits). Both are Lagomorphs. They also make hay.

      Their habitat is primarily in high mountains above tree line. They make a sharp chirp that is very loud for their size. I've seen & heard many in the Rocky Mountain states of the United States. (I'm not a biologist, but I play one on RUclips.)

    I once clicked on a stupid video where the title said that it would give advice in learning Japanese, and the video was just him saying that you shouldn't because he didn't have the guts to keep it up.     The way I first understood the Pikachuu name came from one of the worst crimes against humanity. Eg I understood the name Pikachuu once I found out the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were called ピカドン = pikadon by the survivors back when no one knew what atomic bombs were and pika was the extremely bright flash, and don the sound like a thundering drum.

    You know what else is an onomatopoeia?
    The word for "barbarian".
    It's from ancient greek.
    To them, all uneducated foreigners sounded like they were saying "bar bar bar bar", from which the expression came from.

      Many Pokemon names are derived from Japanese onomatopoeia and phenomena/substances. Nyarth in Japanese is the English name, then Meowth. Meow is "Nya(にゃ)" in Japanese. Raichu is read as Rai, which is the kanji character for "雷(rai、らい)". This is the kanji for thunder.☺I'm sorry if my English is not good.

Nice!☺Chain stores have menus in English, Korean, and Chinese, but I heard that most of the menus at independent stores are handwritten and cannot be translated even with Google Lens. Since there are many kanji, it may be difficult to order. There are a lot of delicious foods, so it would be nice if you could read even a little and order more items. good luck!

      I live in New York there’s lots of Japanese people living here. I love there food 😋 I have some amazing Ramen and Sushi restaurants right next to my apartment 🙏. I’m Italian and for fun I like to cook. I make my own sushi at home also. I get real wasabi delivered to my apartment, I have a shark skin grater. If I was able to show you a few pics on here I think you would be impressed 😊 I like to cook with miso paste and I have a Deba knife to clean out my fish. I also make Korean chicken and kimchi, dumplings and pork steam buns 😋 I’m hungry now 😉
