    Best darn second serve lesson on the interwebs. And that is saying a lot, because in the year 2024 some of the best coaches in the world are on youtube. I wonder if you have noticed how many great coaches online are spreading these three myths: 1. Dont play with pace. Hit every serve with "full" racket speed. 2. Slice and kick are two completely different and opposite actions. You can never go from one to the other, 3. Kick serves are ideal for all skill levels.

    I've said it many times and I'll say it again, there's always a Coach who has the right message for each one of us.
    In my case it's Tom who has the perfect language for me. It was with his way of approaching tennis that I was finally able to hit the forehand in a natural and fluid way after many years of struggling with this stroke that, instead of getting better, got worse.
    And it's very curious because when Tom speaks I immediately understand and I usually guess what comes next.
    This is because the relationship he creates between the player and tennis is a bit like listening to our body and letting it flow in a natural and relaxed way.
    It all makes so much sense !

    Great video Tom!
    I think a lot of game based coaches teach to adjust the swing on every ball because every ball is different. I like you point out it's good to keep the technique the same while adjusting the speed, angle and direction of the swing (play with the invisable technique you can say) to get the desired result:)
    Keep in touch:)

    I like your delivery - it is concise, your speaking is clear and not too fast and no rambles. Finally the length is just right - if I see a 35 minute training video I don't even open it I know there is unnecessary padding that I don't have time/patience for even if he content is otherwise solid - I will never know bc I do not give the lesson a chance.

    The other day I was working on the short kicker in the ad box that lands close to the sideline and jumps right. Interestingly, I tried to hit one a bit harder/faster and it landed close to the line and kicked slightly right but against most people, it would have been an ace because it was around 90 MPH. The key is to toss it maybe 6 inches out in front and somewhat left (straight over your head) and the swing is not as upwards as a kick...you swing it a bit more in between a kick serve and a flat serve...I was able to reproduce 4 of the final 5 in much the same way. It only goes about 90 but then again so do most of my wide aces on the deuce side. The flat wide serve is very elusive and I'm 6'3! It's very difficult to get the flat serve in the box near the sideline AND clear the net...this serve has a bit more room for net clearance and the spin brings it down...I lose at least 15 MPHs but I think it's worth it.

    Been learning to play for 11 months, I have acquired most aspects and the fundamentals to a reasonable standard I think and have concentrated on correct execution...Apart from the serve, the impossible serve! It got to the point where it created anxiety and I would try and avoid it even during lessons! This video in particular has proved to be the only one that finally made me understand how to swing slow and correctly and I am now begining to see results and also relax. Thanks Tom (fellow brit living abroad)!

    THank you.I spend 6 whole months hitting only second serve , and stopped hitting hard and flat. My confidence is maximum now when playing tournament. Even at 0-40, I always trust in my serve.

  • @cliveburks
    @cliveburks 11 месяцев назад

    What is so good is you hit so many serves to demonstrate your point that makes it so easy to understand and embody. I am a top club player imo however I have a unique ? characteristic I serve right handed a d play all my other shots left handed occasionally I hit a right handed smash. So my serve could have power as I throw hard right handed but I don’t have quite the touch and feel on my right hand. Therefore my serve can let me down if I don’t work a lot on developing it. Advantage is I spread the muscle and body load to both arms.
