I got a Shihtzu last week, and she is now 9 Weeks old. She barks at night in her bed, even though she sleeps in my room. Is that normal? And she dont was to walk, always sits on the front door... i‘m a little bit frustrated 🙈
@Theo Emanuelsson I agree with you totally, all dogs need exercise. But you do get the generally agressive dog, or a dogs behaviour is off where you need training for example, dog like to bite things? You need to train him to not bite things and give him a bully sticks. And training them to poo and we outside. And a few commands, like, sit, stay, come, down. Other than that doggos are great.
Wish my parents where convinced I would even do something with it they expect me to buy it and get boerd of it but I like really need it emotionally and I just need a friend at home

Once again, Zak George makes a video on exactly what I need. My three-month border Collie is doing great, but fails to come when called from a distance. I just need to get closer, and possibly lower to the ground. Thanks Zak!
Just wanted to briefly share something. I had one of the best walks with my two rescue dogs today. It's been nearly two years of training and behavior modification for two very fearful, one aggressive, one would just have melt downs terrier rescues and today was one of those walks were everything came together and I had the two best behaved, most polite, sociable, playful and confident dogs of the entire group (it was a "pack walk" if you're into that stuff - I call it a "group walk" specifically for smaller dogs). My used-to-be aggressive/reactive PatterJack was engaging in games of chase with big dogs like Vizlas and GSDs we met on the walk - I think he was showing off to the other dogs. He was having a blast. My Jack Russel/Shih Tzu mix even joined in at one point. The confidence they both have is amazing, more than I ever thought possible. Dogs are amazing. Both of mine are unrecognisable from when I got them. I'm so, so proud of them both. Having dogs can be trying at times people, but stick with it because I promise you if you give your dog what it needs it'll pay you back ten fold.
Tesla Nick how did you help them with their confidence? My gsd puppy has always been so timid since the day we got her at 8 weeks. She's now 16 weeks and doing better but still gets scared at times. I am proudof her progress but I wonder if when she's full grown she'll be fully confident or will she always be a bit shy
A whole variety of techniques. I started by making both dog's worlds really small. Little to no freedom and tight control at all times. I named them "low stress days". No off leash until recalling reliably, solid "leave it" and "wait". Walks conducted on long line training leads until they've proved they can do the three vitals (recall+leave it+wait/stop). I used conditioned relaxation to help them find calm on cue (a skill I teach every dog I train). Lots and lots of counter conditioning for a variety of stressors (plastic bags was a big one). Kept all training purely positive. Only used time outs as a negative consequence for unwanted behavior (no "corrections" like leash pops). Taught incompatible behaviors instead of punishing bad behavior. Lots and lots of obedience training, lots of impulse control games (sit-stays, down-stays, "wait", "leave it", "place" etc). Taught both dogs how to play (one was too timid to engage in games of conflict like tug) but now he's a tug addict (the PatterJack). Lots of doggy parkour whilst out on walks. One of the most powerful things is the group walks. Dogs learn from other dogs MUCH faster than from us. My shih tzu mix used to just watch all the other dogs from afar and then "monkey see, monkey do" kicked in and he'd try to emulate the stuff he liked in other dogs. Wonderful to observe. Going to try this with my new puppy! But I noticed this is maybe the only small breed puppy video you have. I’d love more! My puppy is on the difficult side. The more tips, the better! He’s having a hard time with learning his name and going to potty area when he needs to go.
Hikari YES!!!!!! I have two puppies, a 3 month old Maltese and a 2 month old Shih-Tzu and I need help to potty train them in a apartment where it’s hard to go outside, I can old let her out in the morning and after work, so I need help potty training her so they can go in their potty pad when I’m not home or able to take them out
My two pups are happiest when they're being held! They love to romp around and play with toys but yeah they're not too keen on coming when you call them or following directions so this video is a huge help. Gives me lots of great ideas. We've only had them for 2 days so I hope to start doing things right. This is as much a training for the owner as it is for the pet!😉🐶
I have a 4 month old American pitbull terrier, she is learing so fast and growing to. she is not aggressive to people she is really good with other dogs. She’s almost 5 months and I’m so happy she is learning faster when she is a pup. 🐶💖
I know this video is well over a year old but this was super informational. I just adopted a senior dog ( a 10 year old maltese) and we're having trouble with commands like what you went over in your video. It's only been a week, but I'll be starting over with him and just remembering to be patient. Thank you.
my 16 week old puppy already knows how to sit, shake, lie down, spin, speak thanks to your videos. she's getting better, but not yet mastered come, leave it, and stay. :)
I usually don't comment, but I have to say I have a wild black lab pit mix and I was at a loss with how to train him. I knew with the stereotypes with his breed I wanted him to be completely obedient so when somebody tried to discriminate him and say they don't listen I could prove them wrong. Then I stumbled across your videos! I've only been working with him with your methods for about a week but he already has improved so much! It's incredible! Thank you so much for sharing your videos :)
Just got our second pup a 10 week old mini Schnauzer, went to RUclips to refresh my puppy training tips, and now Ive been watching your videos for hours lol
I have a Mal-Shi puppy who will b 4 months old next month n she can do sit, lie down, leave it, wait, come here n she also plays fetch. I feel so proud of her. My genius baby!!!!🤓🤗🐶
Since luring a small puppy into a sit or down is difficult, a clicker works wonders. I use the "capture method" and simply wait for my Pomeranian to sit. With the clicker, he learned to focus in half a day, and sit on command the next. It's adorable to watch him thinking. I highly recommend the book "Puppy Start Right" for all the different methods of lure and capture. We're working on staying on a bed when the front door opens. The tiny thing could be out before we know it-with the door only opened a crack. There are always treats there! At least it's easy to have treats everywhere as he can't reach them. My knees are killing me getting up and down off the floor, so I'll have to figure that out. I bought a lure stick that has a clamp to hold a treat. The method to focus on getting attention is genius! Small doggies will be looking upwards their entire life.
My doggy Rex passed away two years ago at 16. He is missed very much and sometimes I can still hear him in our house. Now I’m getting a new puppy,Ace, and need to train him. Ur videos are amazing and easy to follow!!

@@Fer-uo5ez I really wanna! but my country and city is such that there aren't much places for pet adoptions or any at all, otherwise I too wanted to adopt But thanks for the advice 😊
This is the video I was looking for. Chase is an 11-week old puppy and we've been trying but he's simply too excited for his new home (we got him at 9 weeks). More practice and more patience!
I have a Bichon Frise. My second favorite breed is the Maltese. Rex and Zak are phenomenal! Your videos are very helpful and educating. I can see you love doing this-such a great passion.
He is so cute!😍 I am glad you are showing small cute dogs aren't toys, they need training and to learn how to respect, just like bigger dogs, but unfortunately some small dog owners don't train their dogs and it's super annoying
Been watching lots of your videos for a few months now and it has really helped prepare me for my puppy. 3 days in and I feel like we have gotten off to a great start. Your videos have given be the confidence to know what I can expect from my dog and be consistent. Also having lots of fun. Thanks you
You are such a great trainer. May I ask you a question? My puppy maltese dont walk in the road when she goes for a walk. What should I do to make her walk? Love from Greece
"Too much freedom, too early." This is gonna be my problem to keep in mind. I have to remember that the pups didn't have the run of the house at the breeder, so she's not used to that - and doesn't think of a playpen-sized world as confinement. It's what she's always known, so it's normal.
thanks for sharing your video! I got a tiny maltese, no matter how many times a day I walk her , she does her things inside the house! I leave the back garden door open day and night (its winter here), try to teach her, and nothing! never had this problem before with other dogs .
Hello! It been a year but I hope this helps. Try not to train your puppy while she is very energetic. Try to play with her for a while. Try to train her when she calms down. 😊
Zak please help! How do I stop my puppy from whining in a crate? I don’t want to let her out as she might think whining gets her out. Also I play and give her a lot of exercise before I put her in it she even has a chew toy but she still whines and cries! She’ll get tired after she exercises and I’ll put her in the crate, but after a while maybe 5-10 mins later, she will start whining. What shall I do?
Jade Lam I don’t know for sure, but have you tried watching his videos on crate training and separation anxiety? Try to create positive associations with the crate by training and treating while in it (and not while whining [i think this would work similarly to how to stop dogs from barking so check out those videos of his too]). Stay with your dog for 15-20 mins doing normal things while she is in the crate. Does she whine when you leave or also when you are with her? If she whines when you leave, then check out his separation anxiety videos. If she whines while you’re there, look at the barking videos, and pay attention to her while she’s in the crate. Try playing and training while she’s in the crate with the door open.
Jade Lam you should take a worn piece of clothing like a shirt or sweat jacket and drape it on top of your dogs crate. That will really help because they will smell you scent
Experience. If you practice anything a lot, you get good at it. Dog training is simply learning a way of transmitting what we want to the dog. Dog's have done their side of the deal by learning to read us, our body language, the sounds we make and the emotion behind them. We're still learning our side of it and how to express ourselves in way our dogs can understand. If you never do a single training session with a dog, you still end up understanding each other right ? There's certain cues the dog habitually acts on, he knows when you're sad, happy, angry.
Tesla Nick thanks for your advice it is very help full. Are you a dog trainer? If you are please tell give me some more advice on training dogs because in about a month I am going to start my own dog training channel. It will be very helpful.
Yep, I've been training dogs part time for fifteen years and started out professionally two years ago. I'm certified in SATS (Kayce Cover) and certified with the IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers). I'm also a member of the IACP (Tyler Muto). I host group walks for difficult dogs once a week and a meetup group called "Doggy Discussions" where I talk about dogs, dog training and give free advice to anyone who needs it. Feel free to contact me via my youtube channel. I'm more than happy to help where I can.
My french bulldog likes to piss and shit on his pad and only on his pad, when I take her out she won't pee or poo only on rare occasions as soon as we come home she'll go straight to her pad 🤔 how do I fix This
I had the same problem with my puppy. I would reccomend to stop using the pad if you're able to. But what fixed our issue was to remove all of the carpets inside, and only have a pad outside. That really helped us!
I got you bro, take the pad outside and try to get him to go. After the first few times outside try with no pad. Also maybe you could take him to a dog park to show that most other dogs pee and poo outside.
Well I have a black and white chichiwawa and his name is Rocky. He is 6 months old and a very playful puppy and I can't get any attention from him. I tried to potty training him but everything I do doesn't work. I'm having a bad time and he is a indoor puppy and I tried to let him go outside for a bit but he just wouldn't go. I love your videos but I'm still having a hard time Training him..
If you still have a hard time with potty training, it may help to walk outside with Rocky personally and stand outside until he uses the restroom. If he is reluctant to come outside on his leash maybe try reassuring him before continuing over the threshold. :) Good luck!
I am getting a maltipoo in the summer! You have helped me so much my mom said to learn about training before getting it. That’s why I subscribed. Well.. of course I did

My overall goal was to support both dogs through their issues (all fear based due to lack of experience at the appropriate age). Teach them how to navigate stressful situations (usually by deferring to me) and handle their emotions better. Show them that they can overcome challenges to build a sense of self-efficacy.
The list of techniques I found particularly useful that I certified in along the way:
BAT 2.0 (Grisha Stewart)
SATS (Kayce Cover)
Mark and reward training with food and/or play as the reinforcement
Counter conditioning
Classical conditioning
Operant conditioning
Perception modification
Calibrated desensitisation
Negative punishment (time outs/social exclusion/no reward markers)
Negative reinforcement (leash pressure using either a slip lead or martingale collar and even harnesses/spacial pressure/social pressure)
General obedience
Now that both dogs are well versed in the various skills we've learned, if they do have a scare of any kind, they recover straight away and we tackle and get over the scare right there and then - done.
It's been a fantastic journey. A lot of work which has never felt like a chore. The pay off is enormous. My two set the example for other dogs now.

I'm gonna get a Maltese soon I hope I can train it with these methods.
Also I'm open for any advices abt Maltese.
Adopt don’t buy
@@Fer-uo5ez I really wanna! but my country and city is such that there aren't much places for pet adoptions or any at all, otherwise I too wanted to adopt
But thanks for the advice 😊

Hoodiebird is this a maltipoo?
@@judson8441 i think its a shih tzu
@@jainachauhan4640 @judson looks like a maltese to me
This is the video I was looking for. Chase is an 11-week old puppy and we've been trying but he's simply too excited for his new home (we got him at 9 weeks). More practice and more patience!
Rex stole my ❤️ I want him
I have a Bichon Frise. My second favorite breed is the Maltese. Rex and Zak are phenomenal! Your videos are very helpful and educating. I can see you love doing this-such a great passion.
I love this😍...I would like you to make some more vids like this for small dogs thank you 💖
He is so cute!😍 I am glad you are showing small cute dogs aren't toys, they need training and to learn how to respect, just like bigger dogs, but unfortunately some small dog owners don't train their dogs and it's super annoying
he's so cute
Been watching lots of your videos for a few months now and it has really helped prepare me for my puppy. 3 days in and I feel like we have gotten off to a great start. Your videos have given be the confidence to know what I can expect from my dog and be consistent. Also having lots of fun. Thanks you
when they zoomed into rex at the end I died he is tooo cute.
These videos helped me train my stubborn dachshund to do at least 7 tricks! Thank you!
Zak can you do a video on driving with dogs
Nicholas MacLean good idea
Yes please do a video like that because my dog is a maniac when he drives.
Yeah, my dog has NO idea how to yield to oncoming traffic. Almost got us in an accident!
I love to see , how much you adore dogs.. 🐕
You are such a great trainer. May I ask you a question? My puppy maltese dont walk in the road when she goes for a walk. What should I do to make her walk? Love from Greece
See one of my puppy leash training videos. I've covered this a few times:) Congrats on your new pup!
I’m getting a Maltese puppy tomorrow! I’m so excited!
Your the first trainer that talked about getting on the floor when you can’t....I can’t so thanks.
I got my new pomeranian puppy he’s 5 months old and thanks to your videos I could already teach him many things !
Impossible with my pup. I try to get her to look at me and she does, right before she jumps up to bite my face. 😕 any other ideas?
Same here
Hello! It been a year but I hope this helps. Try not to train your puppy while she is very energetic. Try to play with her for a while. Try to train her when she calms down. 😊
I have a maltese too,she is 9 months old and I teached her a lot of triks that i learned from your videos
Thnx
I am getting a dog 🐶 in 1 week and i am so happy 😁
Which breed did you get
Just found out my uncles Havanese dog is having puppies and he is giving us one. I’m so excited and this video will really help😊😊😊
@@chelseaa733 Yes, this always helps both my little dogs and especially my cats.
I have a Maltese called Maud she’s adorable but heavy and she’s about 10 weeks. Thanks for this video it really helped Bonsoir.

this dog is gorgeous!
I really really love your videos man what is your secret?
Wonderful subscribers like you!
I know right?! I do the same thing and my results are non existent!
I have a Maltese cross myself so this is really useful. And Rex is just adorable. 😊
I have 2 month dog and he really likes me like when I come back from school he jumps at me and licks a lot
Rex is adorable! He looked extremely cute when he went down.
Can you tell me what is diet of pit bull of 9mon
dhruv sharma asking a vet would be more realistic and more helpful and accurate
I appreciate you doing small breed puppy videos!! They are very different to train. I would love more small dog videos!!!!
My french bulldog likes to piss and shit on his pad and only on his pad, when I take her out she won't pee or poo only on rare occasions as soon as we come home she'll go straight to her pad 🤔 how do I fix This
INVESTING HUSTLER - Stocks and money making videos Try taking your frenchie on a walk. Walking helps encourage dogs to want to go.
Try crate training.
Thanks guys !
Awww Rex is sooo cute . I am sure this vid will help me 😀
Well I have a black and white chichiwawa and his name is Rocky.
Chihuahua*
If you still have a hard time with potty training, it may help to walk outside with Rocky personally and stand outside until he uses the restroom. If he is reluctant to come outside on his leash maybe try reassuring him before continuing over the threshold. :) Good luck!
Love your videos! 🐶♥️♥️♥️
I have a maltipoo and I just taught her to sit with a treat
How is she now and how old is she
Your videos are so awesome! Thank you !
I am going to buy a Labrador 😍 it will surely help
I am getting a maltipoo in the summer! You have helped me so much my mom said to learn about training before getting it. That’s why I subscribed. Well.. of course I did
