I just happen to be learning that rach prelude in your 1st example and I was agonizing on the fingering for that exact part, the sweeping left hand phrases. I was debating between 5421 and 5415, so moving the hand position on the 5th note (avoids using weaker pinky) vs the 4th note (using the pinky . But I think your fingering makes more sense. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing your talent and instructions. Will you still be explaining scales of 4ths and 6ths? Looking forward to hearing more.

Thanks for your comment! I am still planning on that; just got sidetracked by a bunch of other topics. Planning on finishing that series this summer. ☺️

Brilliant compilation! So many good tips and ideas for me to consider in the future! Oddly, I was using thumb and middle finger on the Clara Nutturno trill (and to set up a turn at the end with the index finger, I am not sure if that is proper in its period but it sounds nice), and I thought I was being naughty not using adjacent fingers! Now this miss-a-finger strategy will be in my head in future as a kosher technique.

Excellent help with fingering. It’s SO IMPORTANT, but often overlooked by some teachers and students. I agonise over selecting the ideal fingering. It’s very important to me. All your points are very relevant! Often, there may be two choices and this is where I often get stumped!

Yes, it can be hard to make a choice! It's hard to talk about fingering because there aren't hard-and-fast rules - but following principles will get you a ways there. Re: dilemmas, I suggest picking one fingering and living with it for a while, and if it is causing problems, switch over to the other one. Good luck! 🎹😊

Prof Boyd, could please make a video on your alternative chromatic fingerings? Slow motion, both up and down the keyboard, please?
That’s a very interesting point you made, but when I tried it, I slipped up at one point or another, either it’s going up fine, then i cant go down, or it’s going up at at one point I cant tuck the thumb under etc.

Can you please write out the fingering because once you hit the second octave with that fingering you hit an F with your fourth finger. how are you supposed to smoothly get to F sharp. Can you write the fingering for four octaves so I get a better sense? Thx do much
