Thisis an extraordinary set of videos. Robert should have a THANKS button so people can send him beer $$. My advice to anyone attempting this job is to take lots of photos when you remove the idler pulleys. Write down the disassembly sequence so you don't waste time during reassembly.
Thank you so very much for the help, I've done more complicated timing belts and easier ones, however your hard work and time has helped me tons, thank you so much.
Thanks buddie trying to keep old girl on the road , thought my timming belt was bad ,tore it apart changed the belt but didn't replace the water pump, guess what was making all the noise,,,, water pump so tommorro gonna tear it all Part again ,,, lesson learned
I ran into the same problem with the harmonic balance remover. The bolts in the kit are the wrong size, they are about a mm to big. The bolts you'll need are m6-1 and they need to be at least 80mm or 3.5 inches long.
It took me about 3 hours to disassemble. then I installed the tensioner the wrong way, so as soon as I started the engine, the belt came loose. So, it's taking me well over 7 hours by now.. And I am still trying to figure out how to put it back together. LOL This is the first time I am replacing the timing belt on my Nissan Quest. :P (Oh, I forgot to mention that I also took off the intake manifold to replace all the fuel injectors. Of course, that step is unnecessary if you just want to replace the timing belt.)
Could you specify the length and diameter of the bolts you used to attach the puller to the harmonic balancer? I got the same loaner tool from AutoZone and none of the bolts fit the provided tapped holes.
very helpful ... but I wish you would show more about taking those covers off ... I have taken all the screws I can see out but still it is on tight ???
You have an overhead cam engine. You have a bank one in the bank to and they activate both the exhaust and the intake on both Banks. they're not a one for exhaust and one for intake.
Great video. I have a question about my 1996 Quest. I thought i overheated and blew a head gasket (running rough) Used Blue Devil and seemed to of fixed that problem. put new plugs in and car is running fine. filled up car with antifreeze and put in the new thermostat. topped off with fluid and took for a short test drive, it overheated on me, bought car back into driveway and let cool off for 45 min, topped off with water / antifreeze and let car idle, it slowly went back to hot again... ***Should I see the fluid circulating through the radiator? Because I see no circulation
+grasspickinD28 There's a bleeding procedure that needs to be done whenever the coolant is completely drained and refilled. It's possible you didn't fill it completely. Excess air needs to be 'burped' out of the system. Google that for the correct procedure.
I have a 1997 Nissan Quest keeps overheating. I replace brand new radiator and thermostat now no leak fluid anywhere but still overheating. Do you think it could be the water pump? Or else can cause it overheating? Please reply to me if you could.
Hey I had a question my dad replaced all sensors on 2000 mercury villager went to get inspection said he hasn’t drove around enough but o2 light came on after he left
hi mr. robert. I am watching/using your video to change the water pump on my wife's van. I am having the same problem with the horminoic balance puller. I've gotten several sizes bolts to use to remove the horminoic balancer.none seem to fit. what size was the ones you used. thank you!
@@RobertDIY thanks for the video however there is no listing of the size bolts you used to remove the harmonic balancer pulley in the beginning of the video nor in the the description. Could you please let us know what size bolts you used to remove the harmonic balancer pulley? Thanks
i am having a problem with the interior passenger sliding door on a Nissan Quest 2000. Cant tell what latches the interior door handle to the assembly. the outside handle stopped working, so i tried to open it to secure that spring, something happened, Now it wont open from the inside or outside.
i have thus exact vehicle, well Nissan quest... i can hear that same sqeaking. was driving the other day and it just shut off. was able to put in neutral rev it up to about 4k and slam it in D to get it ti move. but still very slow on take off. had to drive it home. used half a tank in about 45 miles. Shifting at HIGH rpms.now in the yard. if left in p i can slowly accelerate and it will catch. but as soon as i put it in d it shuts off. help
@@RobertDIY you could explain to me in the comments, did you have to take the ac compressor mount off or did you just loosen the tension to wiggle it out
Great video series. My son has a 2000 villager and I have had a loud muffled sound from the rear area of engine. I took all the muffler and catalic to look for damages and the exhaust system is ok. My question is the noise is the lower manifold and have you ever had to remove this and if so do you have a video for this process.
Don't think about it and then tell her she's going to do it just do it man you have to do this you have to do that you have to do this first think about it and tell us you're going to do it and then do it and then tell us that's what you did
If it runs poorly or stalls out and wont start, if nothing else is wrong usually it needs a new distributor. They were a bad design and fail very frequently. You might want one with a lifetime warranty if you plan on keeping it a long time.
He failed to tell everyone you can't get the AC pully out without taking the pully off. I had to replace the roller the pully turn on last year when roller locked up and blew the belt apart. Where Im running it to trouble is the 2 stand that you can see that holding 2 of the lower cover bolts came out of the block. Not Fun At All. I had less trouble with the main pullies and water pullies. Oh yea, the timing belt look like a belt to hold up your pants not to run the van.
Oh hell, that is one pain an the ass, just about everything was stopping you from doing an easy job :-(. I would have wanted to run away lol, horrible design :-( Designers want a good kicking with spiked boots lol :D
ManicMechanic007 actually I've never had any transmission problems with either of my pilots. But other Honda automatic transmissions like the accords and the odyssey van are another story
Michael Sackstein Our 1995 Villager is sounding like the water pump is worn out and ready for replacement. You may think the van isn't worth anything, but its already gone over 300,000 miles and is ready for more! While the water pump is inconveniently located, the designers did a lot of things right on this van! And the auto tranny has never had a problem, unlike some other min-vans we know about.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CHANGE A TIMING BELT ON A 2.5 V6 ENGINE ON A MERCURY

+TeesSmootheSounds I don't think so.
Could you specify the length and diameter of the bolts you used to attach the puller to the harmonic balancer? I got the same loaner tool from AutoZone and none of the bolts fit the provided tapped holes.
Sadly I can not. You can use a bolt removed from the hole as a guide.
You need to buy two 6mm bolts about 3-4 inches long and use multiple washers under the bolt head. The kit does not include this size bolt.

What size socket for harmonic balancer?

Not too sure now. But one of the two. And i used an impact gun to take it off and was easy.
The socket is 27

so it doesn't spill all over the place when you pull the water pump.
