    Hi all,
    Since it looks like most of you want to know how to grow the grass, I'll tell you! I've had this kit for 2-3 years now and it works great, without having to germinate the seeds as it shows in this video.
    1) empty the vermiculite soil into the inner white container
    2) add about 2 cups of water, making sure it all gets wet
    3) add the seeds to the top of the soil. You can spread it around and bury it a tiny bit, but it sprouts better when it's uncovered
    4) put the green top on and put the whole thing in a sunny place. It should start sprouting within a few days.
    Don't overwater. The initial water you added should be enough for the life of the grass, but if you have it in a particularly hot or sunny spot, you may want to spray it with some extra water until it sprouts. This grass is an annual, which means IT WILL NOT CONTINUE TO GROW! Once it's lifespan is over, it will turn brown and die, and not come back, so don't keep watering expecting to grow more, you'll just have a soggy moldy mess on your hands. You have to start over with a new pack of seeds and soil once it dies. I've noticed that my cat tends to throw up if she eats it once it starts drying out and turning brown, so beware.
    That's it. Hope it works out for all of you!

    Just bought the unit. Have not used it yet. The instructions on their website are not super clear. And the time information in your video is great, ty. Their instructions say to remove the sprouting seeds, then add the vermiculite, then place the seeds on top without mixing them in. Looks like you just added the vermiculite on top of the sprouting seeds... Is that what worked best for you?

    • @princessjedi
      @princessjedi 5 лет назад +4

      I’d also like to know this. I’ve just spread them taking care to NOT mix with the sprouted seeds on top of the vermiculite.
      Also, I couldn’t find reference to add water or not after spreading the sprouted seeds so I did water a bit?
      Seemed a bit counter intuitive to let them sit in a bunch of dry little rocks.

  • @sharifariddett2389
    @sharifariddett2389 4 года назад +3

    Not useful at all. Why is the vermiculite placed on top of the seeds? The Catit website says "Spread the sprouted seeds evenly onto the vermiculite surface. Do not mix."

    For me:
    Pros: the top part is nice to be able to stop my cats from pawing the soil out of it
    Cons: I have a planter that is just large enough where I can place enough soil in it so the planter can’t be toppled over; it’s a simple process as I just plant the grass seeds in the soil, make sure it stays wet by temporarily covering it with a plastic bag until the grass begins to sprout and cover the soil; the cat grass I planted looked insanely healthy and was quite abundant
    Still, because I walk one of my cats, having cat grass indoors does not seem to discourage him from eating the treated lawn when I walk him, which I am always worried sick over.

    So what are the instructions step by step?

    • @NEVERKNOWSBE5T
      @NEVERKNOWSBE5T 5 лет назад +4

      You can use catgrass seeds and organic soil, which is what I do.
      You can purchase the seeds online or in some petshops.
      This is what I do:
      1. Add a layer of organic soil from a gardening shop (I would advise against using soil from outside as it could be treated with chemicals for weeds or pest bugs etc which could make your cat sick)
      2. Sprinkle some seeds on top of the soil and add a very thin layer of soil on top of the seeds just enough so they're covered and you can't see them; they don't need to be buried deep in the soil as they might not grow
      3. add some water to make the soil moist, if in the process of adding water you see some seeds cover with a bit more soil
      4. put some plastic wrap on top of your container to keep the soil damp but don't completely cut off air flow make sure some air can get in and out of the plastic wrap the reason is if the soil gets dry it can mean the seeds won't grow, they need to be damp all the time and if the plastic wrap is too tight you can also cause the sprouts to die so just rest it ontop with a few open bits to allow airflow
      5. store your container or grass planter whatever your using some place out of the way and warm without a lot of light like on top of a cupboard, fridge shelf etc or as I do on my bedroom book shelf
      6. keep checking every so often and after 3-5 days you should have sprouts, if you do take the plastic wrap off and place near a window with light and warmth and leave a few days until it grows to a good size then just give it to the cats
      If you don't have sprouts after a week you may have done something wrong like not wet the soil enough so add a sprinkle of water and loosen the plastic wrap a bit and give it a few more days also check you haven't put too much soil on top of the seeds or too little, they should only be enough to completly cover the seeds they don't need to be buried deep and you shouldn't beable to see any of the seeds.
      If after a week of doing this your seeds haven't sprouted just start again with a fresh batch of seeds I've never had a issue with my seeds not growing so it might be your just unlucky and got some dud seeds.
      I hope this helps
