An excellent video, Len. Informative and intelligent. Astonished to hear that you don't have a centre stand on the Hunter for the Australian Market. An essential for doing routine maintenance such as chain care. My Hunter has now done 1000 km and just gets better. @@davidcann8788 They're quite different, David as you'll know with a rather different frame geometry so the ride is different. After a couple of rides I just felt so at home on the Hunter which I really never did on the Meteor. But that's all down to the sort of riding I do which is mainly country lanes in the UK. Peter
Good dayTo you 12 months ago I purchased my Royal Enfield Hunter 350 living in England we don’t have the benefits of the good warm weather as you do but I must say that it has been enjoyable riding the hunter 350 in between the showers. I don’t ride bikes in the winter as the rules are, wetwet and fast amount of salt on the road. Put on my bike 1100 miles and I still get to get my first Service done.. I must say that for The summer autumn period of last year I really enjoyed the film of a new Motorcycle it’s classic. It does have a modern classic look. I see this because I also ride triumph Bonneville T 120 which is also a modern take on an old designs of the 1959 series getting back to the Royal Enfield. I find the right very comfortable. It’s great and traffic gives you a lot of miles per gallon and that is a must be with the price of gas as as they are in the UK think it holds the road very well there has been talked that the standard tires video on that grave but I’ve not yet had a problem with that spot of driving is around 60 to 65 and the speed max is kept at 71 miles an hour for my overallof the last year I am so very pleased with my purchase of the 350. It’s a great bike for going into town this Sunday gentle rides out in the countryside. and most of all, does it value you for Money? I think the Royal Enfield hunter 350 , offer value for money and a don’t break The bank sale price on the road £3899, I am of the age of 70 years many motorcycles from the age 17 until the present day and I look home the bikes that I have had over this period of time I want to be right a classic cruise I have The Triumph 1200 , the hunter 350 has got some of the looks of the T120, What is a different legal between them both? Both? Look like a classic Motorcycle with Heritages of history. I’m the first place for both of us these motorcycles Great Britain.
I have bee lucky enough to try both of these bikes. I loved the look of the Classic as soon as i saw it in the halcyon green. I struggled a bit with the position of the gear lever even though i have small feet. I can confirm the quicker more nimble steering of the Hunter on bend roads. Just on looks alone i would have the Classic.
Hi, good comparison review 👍 On my Classic 350 I swapped the CAT for a straight pipe then added a £50 eBay shorty bottle silencer, I sounds ace and pulls better, have a listen to my films at Coastrider Scotland , cheers Bruce
Hi, Coastrider. I’m pleased you enjoyed the video. Yes, I’m thinking that my first step might be swapping out the CAT and see how it sounds - it just might be enough. Thanks for putting me on to your videos, I’ll certainly check them out. I absolutely love Scotland - it’s my heritage and have been there quite a few times. Planning another trip this year 🤞 Cheers, Len
Only thing id say is that i favour the 350's exhaust, the peashooter exhaust out of all the bikes that use the J-series engine has sounded the best. the hunter sort of sounds louder, but I think it just has leaway at high revs. The classics idile sound and the pops are gorgeous.
I’m 71 and now looking for a bike a little lighter than my Bonneville and I’m not fussed about going a tad slower. I would love to have a Hunter 500 but there are rumblings about a 450cc offering. Any info on that ? I prefer the Hunter (maybe because it resembles my bike) and I’m not a fan of the old school classic. To each his own. Thanks for the review, liked and subscribed. Cheers from Canada.
Greetings Doug, thanks for subscribing - I really appreciate it. I’m pretty close to your age and have owned a few of the newer Triumph 1200 bikes of various styles. I like them a lot, but ultimately found they were just a little to “clinical” and heavy for me. The new Bonneville on-road weighs around 236kg. Yep, that’s heavy for what it is. Have you considered the Royal Enfield 650 Interceptor at 218kg with a lower seat height than the Bonneville? They’re a very engaging motorcycle to ride and one of my favourite bikes. And depending on models of both brands, they can be around half the price of a Triumph Bonneville. However, if you’re interested in the Hunter, that’s a good choice. Not as powerful, of course, but you’ll find they are light and nimble with a great feel on the road… and at a great price point. I am aware of the new Himalayan 450 that will be in the market soon and I fully expect that motor will make its way into the Hunter, etc at some time. However, I do fear the motor might loose some of its character with the introduction of liquid cooling with tolerances in the mechanicals of the motor can making it smoother and tighter - can only be a good thing? However, I like the old air cooled motors as they rev lower and have so much character. Whichever way you go, all the best with your decision. Have fun 😁 Thanks again for your kind comments - and greetings back from Oz ✌️ Cheers, Len
Well presented video mate👌 The classic all the way⭐️ What have you decided? An RE or something with a bit more poke🤔 I’m too old to go fast & here in Vic, too many red light & speed cameras just about every traffic light & SUV’s strangely parked on nature strips🤦♂️ Well done🤙
Hi, Steve. Thanks for your kind words. I’ve had many bikes over 50 years of motorcycling and have had many powerful bikes, including my RE Interceptor 865. However, these 350s take me back to the early days. And yes, I bought one of these bikes. Which one? I’m thinking you might be able to guess. Video coming soon. Cheers, Len
Hi Ben, it was good to meet you. If you do an eBay search for “royal enfield classic 350 pannier racks” you’ll see a lot of them listed. They’re all from India and the prices vary greatly, but are pretty much the same racks. I see they now have a rear rack for the new Classic that I might look into. You might notice that some of the listings are for rack and pannier combos - this is what I bought, but the panniers were not the greatest quality and I pretty much gave them away. It’s best to get panniers from Westerns, they’re genuine Royal Enfield and and will fit the racks and are good quality. All the best with your motorcycling future. Thanks for subscribing and maybe we’ll catch up sometime 👍 Cheers, Len
Hi, Pritam. Yes, I like the look of this model, as well. It’s very different to the shiny models and to just about every other bike on the market. I get the old world Harley look - so cool 👍 Thanks for watching. Cheers, Len
I've had a 535GT for the past 8 years and still enjoy it. However, I'm being drawn more and more towards a 350 classic or halcyon. I just wish they'd kept the kick-start, it would look so much more "right".
Excellent review - it so confusing with RE producing several bikes with the same engine that it’s really great to get this like for like comparison. Still can’t decode though, I might need to get one of each.
_Most_ folks will choose based on esthetics. Me, I adore the Classic looks, but functionally would go for the Hunter - lighter, nimbler, higher practical highway speed.
I really should get in and take these for a test ride. I'm 62 now and don't need 100 horsepowers anymore so one of these could well be the last bike i ever buy. The test will be dragging my 120kg, 6'2" arse up the uptrack on the South Eastern Freeway out of Adelaide at the 100 kmh speed limit.
Hi, Rob. Thanks for watching. Both 350s are great bikes and are a joy to ride, each with its own character. You might not enjoy riding the freeway at 100 kph, though. The bikes will do it, more so the Hunter, but the engines are most happy around 80 - 90. However, if you can, take each for a test ride and see how the feel for you. Have you tried an Interceptor 650? Easy riding on the freeway. If you get to ride the 350s, please get back to us at let us know what you think of them. Cheers, Len
@@motostralia5563 Thanks for the info Len, I use the uptrack as a test bed to see if a bike can haul me up at the speed limit as once i'm back home i know i can comfortably get around here whithout flogging the bejesus out of the bike. Yes the 650 would do it but i think that goes up into another rego bracket even further up from my current GS 500, not 100% sure on that and i'm looking for a bike that is comfortable, cheap and reliable. The old Suzuki has now nearly 70,000 km on her and am looking at either a refurbish or an update. I'm just a bit disappointed at the output of the RE's as i also have a 1972 CB 250, that only goes out on the odd occasion, that is rated at more hp than them. But....i will have to get into town and give them a test ride and see how they go. Regards, Rob.

Hi, Victor. I’m thinking the Hunter might be best for a beginner as it rides more like a modern bike. It’s also not as heavy and has a lower seat height. All the best with your decision. Cheers, Len
Hi just as a note, I think you said the power is 20.2Kw (approx 27 bhp). The stats say it’s 20.2 PS/bhp so a bit less than claimed. I’d still love one though 👍
Hi, Martin. Thanks for the tip. I’ve checked out a few sound videos and it seems that replacing the cat might be the best option. I’ve just ordered one from Hitchcock’s and we’ll see how it goes. Cheers, Len
both bikes could stand to loose 10kg and gain 10% more in torque and horsepower.. I am a bit dissapointed in the power figure .. 20.2 hp,,, The old long stroke push rod 346cc enfield bullet with metal fenders from 2006 made 19hp at a low 5600 rpm with a carborator and had a wet weight of 185kg.. The J series engine co-designed in England is a new design with a good balancer (vibrates much less) and an overhead cam instead of a pushrod.. It has a slightly shorter stroke wider bore and revs more freely.. So lets say an 10% increase in top end power from the old engine (50 year old design) is a bit underwhelming.. I guess modern emission standards are so tough on modern air-cooled singles.. Heck a Kawasaki KLR650 made 48hp with its carborator back in 2007 but today the 2023 fuel injected model makes only 40 hp.. almost 17% less horses..
I have the Hunter 350 here in sunny Indonesia, it's my first Royal and the only one for thousands of kilometers around. I have multiple local market 150s and have had 30 or so bikes in my life. Here are some observations that to a new Royal guy are very obvious. Rear shocks/spring rates are way too stiff (I am 75 kgs, preload on softest setting). Very little free as well as rider sag, this violates the most basic suspension set up rules. The clutch, yes it's smooth and all that, but the engagement point/width is way too narrow. It's almost on/off switch with so little clutch lever movement. My cable is adjusted, this again is a poor engineering/design. You might be so use to "Royal" clutches, that you might not see/realize this point. My Hondas/yamahas use 40% or so of clutch lever motion for clutch engagement, the Hunter uses 10% at best. I really would like your input on this. The leavers, both are on the far side of the reach, and I have big hands. The handle bar has a weird shape/bend to it, my wrist start to complain after a longer ride. I did rotate the bar, had to file down the left side switch gear housing, as the clutch casting was hitting the switch. After this adjustment, the bar feels better. I find the foot pegs bit too far forward, like you stated, the Hunter has a bit of a sporty feel to it. My feet always want to move back a little, so typically I rest only the front of my riding boots on the pegs. Problem with that position is that there is not enough room between my heels and the exhaust. This one is a totally personal preference. Since I have the only Royal for thousands of kilometers, I do all my own maintenance. The bike is simple and fun to work on. One important observation I made is how lean the fueling is on the bike. The spark plug is ghost white and the bike puts out a lot of heat. I am still burning off the factory paint solvents, the bike still smells like chemical plant when parked hot. I just ordered FuelX box to richen up the mixture to a safer/cooler levels. I like the bike, but am bit disappointed about some of the issues mentioned. Turns out the Enfield is not some mystical creature created for riders by riders.......it's close.
Hi, Pawel. It sounds like you’ve really given a lot of thought to your bike. It does seem that the things you mention are really what make the Classic a classic. And they’re not always good. There are so many odd things about it that make it so different to other bikes. I can imagine that your bike gets a lot of attention where you are living. Take care, and thanks for your thoughts. What a lovely gentle and engaging video, really enjoyed it, thank you. I have had the 350 for a year now, and would get a Hunter tomorrow to compliment it if I had the space. Stay safe.
Thanks, Pete. I really appreciate your comments and am pleased you enjoyed the video.
The Hunter is a very different ride, indeed. Kinda brings out the old hoon in me. It would be totally awesome with a 500 motor 🤞
Take care, Len
An excellent video, Len. Informative and intelligent. Astonished to hear that you don't have a centre stand on the Hunter for the Australian Market. An essential for doing routine maintenance such as chain care.
My Hunter has now done 1000 km and just gets better. I don't have experience with the Classic 350 but changed my Meteor for a second Hunter as I found the Meteor awkward to manoeuvre when coming to a standstill.
Peter
Greetings, thanks for your kind words. I’m pleased you enjoyed the video.
Yes, the Meteor is quite different to manoeuvre to the Hunter. The Classic is very different again.
Take care, Len
That's interesting. I'm currently tossing up between the Meteor and the Hunter.
@@davidcann8788 They're quite different, David as you'll know with a rather different frame geometry so the ride is different. I was never happy with the forward footrest placement on the Meteor and when I saw the Hunter I knew I had to try one for a couple of months before deciding which I preferred.
After a couple of rides I just felt so at home on the Hunter which I really never did on the Meteor.
But that's all down to the sort of riding I do which is mainly country lanes in the UK. Peter
Dziękuję, za porównanie tych dwóch motocykli, być może któryś z nich , będzie mój :)

I really want a classic 350 and a Himalayan and an Int650 as they call them here😁
Good dayTo you 12 months ago I purchased my Royal Enfield Hunter 350 living in England we don’t have the benefits of the good warm weather as you do but I must say that it has been enjoyable riding the hunter 350 in between the showers.
Really nice video! Love how you kept it raw and neat, Subbed.

Que pasión, perros! Primer comentario desde México ❤
Great review! Love my Classic 350!
Hi, Quentin. I’m pleased you enjoyed the vid.
Yep, they Classic is a great bike.
Thanks for watching.

@@motostralia5563 Hi Len, would you know if the Classic has both engine and gear box oil or they are independent?
Quent
Hi Quentin, the oil is the same for both engine and gearbox.

Many thanks for the pleasant video. Greetings from Italy 👋👋
Thanks for your kind words. I’m pleased you enjoyed the video.

Planning another trip this year 🤞

Great video man🍻
Greetings, Akash. Thanks for watching, I’m pleased you enjoyed it.

Only thing id say is that i favour the 350's exhaust, the peashooter exhaust out of all the bikes that use the J-series engine has sounded the best. the hunter sort of sounds louder, but I think it just has leaway at high revs. The classics idile sound and the pops are gorgeous.
Hermosas motos❤
Have fun 😁
Thanks again for your kind comments - and greetings back from Oz ✌️
Cheers, Len
I'm over 6' tall and preferred the poise of Classic 350 more than the Hunter.
Cheers, Len
Very nice video.. good job!
Thanks, Mixail. Much appreciated.

Hey mate, those saddle bags I saw on your bike today at Bunnings can you give information on them along with their mounts? Cheers 👍
Thanks for subscribing and maybe we’ll catch up sometime 👍

Hunter 350 Dapper Gray model really looks good. My personal feel that this specific model look like Harley Davidson model bike
Hi, Pritam. Yes, I like the look of this model, as well. It’s very different to the shiny models and to just about every other bike on the market. I get the old world Harley look - so cool 👍
Thanks for watching.
Great review!!
Thanks jetmeg - much appreciated.
Cheers, Len
Cheers, Len

Thanks for the info Len,
I use the uptrack as a test bed to see if a bike can haul me up at the speed limit as once i'm back home i know i can comfortably get around here whithout flogging the bejesus out of the bike.
Regards,
Rob.
Greetings from Mt Gambier. Great review, i loved your down to earth, very informative, no frills/hype approach. I reckon i,ll subscribe. Also a huge RE fan. Thankyou.
Hi, Keith. Thanks for your kind words, I really appreciate your comments.
I’m with you in the RE appreciation club - in this age of modern technology, they really take me back to my early motorcycling days.
Enjoy the ride.

For a beginner rider, which one do you recomend?
Thanks, Spency. I must have missed that one 👍

Excellent!
To much black on the Hunter, for me would look better with the polished engine of the Classic. Would like a rev counter also.
Great review
Thanks, Stanley. I’m pleased you enjoyed the video.

both bikes could stand to loose 10kg and gain 10% more in torque and horsepower..

Cheers, Len
