It’s a lot easier on a lift for sure, but I don’t have one, so had to do it on the ground. Wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Thanks for the video!
Great video, my 2019 ford edge fwd was bucking and jerking from 20mph to 45mph, smooth everywhere else. This video fixed that issue, I also added some Lucas transmission fix
How many miles did your 2019 edge had at the time of bucking and jerking? My 2019 Edge has 36k miles and I’m planning on doing TSB 21-2389 to reprogram the transmission hoping to fix it, but I think transmission fluid change could help. The thing is, fluid change cost $450 at my local dealership.
@@emarte It has about 65k miles on it. The fluid switch plus Lucas additive defintiely fixed mine. But is definitely a little bit of a pain in the a** as this video shows. I spent $150 just on fluid because couldn't find the cheaper fluid near me so $300 for this labor isn't too bad really. Probably took me 3 hours or so.
@@fight_for_your_right_to_party Have to agree with you on that. Labor costs are reasonable, not easy task for sure. I have an appointment next Monday for the TSB and I am going to have them do the fluid change. For my peace of mind, I might just start doing fluid changes every 30k miles. This transmission better last.
@@emarte I recommend 30,000 mi fluid changes In fact our Maverick with the same transmission is getting a fluid change at 20,000. The ultra low viscosity oil they use doesn't last long especially if you use your vehicle as intended. It comes out black and smells nasty.
You could even drain it cold and if you measure that volume out you just add that same cold amount back in. This is an easy way to do it as long as you don’t have a leak. You can even avoid removing the air box and filling it from up top. Instead you can simply use a little hand pump to fill it through the same hole where you check the fluid as it’s full when it drips out that hole with the engine running. An easy way to do it is to jack up the front driver wheel but before doing that use a measuring tape to measure the distance from the floor to the bottom of the door. Then take the wheel off and slowly lower the car to have it positioned at the same height you measured. Then you know the vehicle is level as it was with the wheel on. With the car running remove the side plug for checking the fluid and use your hand pump to add back your drained volume. If it’s not dripping from the hole add more until it is. If you have to add more than drained it’s because you were already low to begin with so possibly you have a leak or it was under filled before. Next time give the vehicle a good check over for leaks and if all is good then just drain it and add the cold volume that was drained the last time. You don’t need to add the extra you added last time unless you suspect a leak and check it again. A leak resulting in low fluid would show up with shifting problems in the transmission.
I'm getting ready to do this same procedure, but I had a question about removing the vent tube. How did you remove the vent/fill tube? In your video you have a pair of long needle-nose pliers...did you use those?
you need a video on how you actually get access to the vent and how you remove it and how you re Insall it.. the drain plug is easy stuff and obvious..
shoot 6.5 quarts. i have a 2020 escape with this 8f35, only got out around 3-3.25 quarts. i really don’t have the utilities to access the check plug. should i be concerned that it’s low?
Not necessarily, however if you used the factory jack and lug wrench+something to chock the rear wheel you can pull the driver's front tire. Or just have it checked at Ford. Be careful though.

Thanks for watching! I hope it was at least a little bit useful. Keep on wrenching!

Thanks man that's awesome I'm glad it fixed it! Definitely premature fluid change is great for these transmissions.

Great video. How many quarts does it need to fill it. Thanks
Definitely measure what you take out for a baseline unless you have leaks.
I drained mine to level with out the motor running. Now it does not want to engage fully on cold mornings. Did I over drain the fluid? 4:08
Possibly I would get it up to temperature, And then pop out the plug on the side of the transmission and fill it until it comes out
@@unorthodoxridez I was able to add about 2ozs thru the vent cap and that helped down to 48*F so far.
Nice! They're really sensitive to fluid level.
Most useful video ive seen on the edges
Thank you

Yes I did
Couldn't you fill it from the overflow plug?
Procedure calls to fill it from the vent

Remove the bottom of the air box and zip tie the top away as shown in the video. I'll be doing the Maverick next weekend. Same trans, stay tuned.

So if i get forscan i can access the trans fluid temp?
Yes
How many quarts? I called a couple shops and said it was going to cost around $300
I believe it was about 7.
How do you take off the bottom of the air box?
Couple of bolts and pull, it comes out fairly easily.
Guess the 1.3 hours includes video time didn’t take me no where near that long
Good job man, you're fast!
How much oil did you put?
Around 6.5qts if I remember correctly
I find it strange they want you to do all that with it on. Like it would be much easier to do a so-called flush or fluid exchange.
I agree 100%.
These car has valve gasoline issues, it must be changed
Valve gasoline issues?
@@unorthodoxridez I mean purge valve should be replaced
Horrible camera work. Makes me dizzy.
Thanks
Complicated
Very. Used to be very simple
You guys talk a lot and not really explaining anything, not good
Thanks for your input.
