    Brian, I’m so in awe of you, you’re literally almost exactly the person I want to be when I’m older (I’m 15). I’m really interested in strongman and mma/bjj and I’ve always wanted to own a gym just like yours. I recently discovered your channel and I’m so glad I did; it’s great to hear from someone that thinks just like me, keep doing what you’re doing, you’re an inspiration to many people ❤️. I hope to one day visit the US to meet you

  • @wassimkhazzaka6360

    That's a dream gym and you made it come true by yourself. Nothing more rewarding I believe. That's exactly what I am aiming to build especially that I cannot find a strongman gym hundreds of miles around my location. Strongman is all but a popular sport in France. First time I visit the US, I am paying you a visit with a French flag to add to your wall!

    So my 16 year old has been working out for a year and a half and has grown significantly! Well after a year of not being able to have full access to my garage I've decided to build a gym on my property! He has decided he wanted to start incorporating strong man competition training in his workouts! Basically I just wanted to say you're an inspiration for us here. I here your in Maryland so being from Pennsylvania maybe a visit is our future! Thanks sir. Keep killing it

  • @teamleon27

    That truly is a dream gym. I live in Miami and there is nothing like that down here, most gyms are big commercial gyms that really don't have that type of equipment. Like you said in the beginning of the video , it's always something in most of those gyms. I wanted to say thank you for taking the time to post your videos, they really are not just informative but entertaining. I have found your tips to be beneficial in my own training and in coaching. I am always searching for ways too learn and get better. There is so much information out there but some is just plain garbage, so its great to see someone busting his ass to create such a bad ass gym with a positive vibe. I may be in Maryland beginning of next year and I'd love to come meet you and see the gym, maybe even have the opportunity to train at a real gym. Anyway, just really want to say congrats on the gym and your success.

      Thanks man, i really appreciate you kind words! Definitely reach out to Elliot Hulse and Nate Pastrana from trending Strongman. They are both in Florida and probably know of some places near you that may not be advertised. There are guys here in Maryland (like LW Pro Andy Deck) who keep equipment in storage facilities and welcome anyone to come train with them. you just need to get in contact with the right people

    "Frost giants." The ethnically correct term for people from Iceland is "frost giants."
    Also it says cool things about your gym that when you're talking about a place you started and run with your own work, every sentence is about what WE do. Solid indicator of a good atmosphere.

    That's a great gym. I am building a home gym in my garage like the equipment that you have. I just have some kettlebells sandbags water jugs med balls bands hopefully going to be putting up a pull up bar so my wife and I can use our suspension trainers and work on our pull ups. So this video gave me some ideas of what to pick up.

    Love this video. I recently decided to buy a yoke for my home gym for cost size and versatility in case my basement gym ever grows.
    For your sand bags what do you use. I was using old feed bags to save money but I have found out that they don't hold up as well as I would like over 100 pounds.

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 лет назад +1

      You can buy real one from iron mind but they are expensive. I have had some success with old military duffle bags but put your sand in normal plastic sandbag containers (like for building a bunker) first or the duffle bags will dry out and break. And that is less cool to clean up than it sounds...

      I'm honestly not sure right now man. Funds are way low and most of that goes back into stuff for making these videos. Like lighting, an external mic, etc

    It's like you're in my brain. You literally have ALL of the equipment I want when I open my facility! If you could give 1 piece of advice to someone opening up their own place for the first time what would it be?

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 лет назад +3

      Have at least 1 years worth of living expenses saved up to survive off of before you make the jump and don't burn into it when purchasing equipment. I will not see a profit for years from now and i have been open almost 3 years. i haven't gotten a paycheck yet, so you need to be able to survive. I would also tell you to try to find other revenue streams. I'm doing that with online training and personalized programs because the gym will not make you enough money most likely. I know a lot of people have this dream and your question actually has my head rolling. I think i am going to make an entire video about this man. Hopefully it will answer a lot of your questions and will help you not make the same mistakes I have made!

    Amazing to see and hear how it is built up. After a PT for my birthday from a professional strongman, I was hooked. I trained a lot at a comercial gym and bought a lot of different implements, made my own farmers / jerk blocks... No space for a cage :( But do have a yoke with catching arms and some squat stands.... Kegs and even baby stones, nowhere near 400 though ^_^. Spaced over 2 different locations... that room >_> currently yoke etc has to be done on a crappy unequal tiled road in the icy winds. eh, works the balance.
    Bands band bands, love em. I dont get why comercial gyms dont get those amazing, and versatile....
    Great to see how you spaced it out, Im always in the need for room as well... Still figuring out where to put dipping pins -.- Likely an addition to jerk blocks...
    Thanks for the content Brian. If I ever come over from the Netherlands to where you are located, ill defenitly stop by and show you (haha) how its done. (probabbly a bad thing to say.... yeah...) Would be very nice to meet you some day.
    Anyway, long ass comment. But keep up the work, its motivating and informative with the right touch of humor. Have a great day sir.

      I feel I made the right switch over from regular fitness to strongman. Last year I participated in 2 contests. During my contests I weighed 83 kgs and 81,5 kgs bodyweight. In the netherlands the lightest devision is below 105 kgs bodyweight. Im fairly explosive but lack the mass for certain events. Currently gaining but not just muscle, getting more bodyfat now as well, Should be able to shred the fat of fairly easy, not worried about that. I currently weigh 86 kg and lightest division is under 105 kg bodyweight. Last 2 times somewhat fried my CNS and had a rough 2-3-4 weeks after. Still preformed fairly ok 9/15 place and 7/9 place in both contests. Set PR's at nearly each event. Found a somewhat light contest, that I signed up for simply for experience and to build more routine. Planning to sign up for a couple of contests next year as well.
      what would be your advice for a 'lightwight'?
      Perhaps if you could find the time could you advise in this, in a reply or video? I am sure im not the only one at the bottom of a weight category.
      Thanks in advance, and the deck of cards surely was.... well.... breathtaking... haha

      Are you trying to gain weight to fill out the 105 class or just trying to be the best you can be at your current weight?

    • @CJMulder
      @CJMulder 7 лет назад

      A bit of both. I wouldnt mind gaining more mass, but I dont want to become a fat blob. I dont need to be totally 'ripped' but I want to maintain some physique as wel as staying explosive. I primarely do this for myself, so being the best that I can be is also something I highly value. I strive to improve myself. If I could combine the self improvement + some weight gain that would be nice.. I know... asking it all at once doenst really work..I dont want to become a strong slow grinder, I'd rather maintain my explosiveness

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 лет назад

      Well I think you need to play to your strengths. So if you are fast and athletic, build even more speed on your moving events because you will want to win those because the heavier guys (Might) be stronger than you in the static stuff. Build up your conditioning and coordination by being smart with your programming using giant sets and dynamic movements while trying to drive up your base strength. Continue to eat in a surplus to gain mass. i think getting bigger dines't mean getting slower if you continue to work on your athleticism. Just a lot of guys throw it all out because they are afraid that they will not gain if they are doing conditioning. It just isn't true. I hope that points you int he right direction brother!
