Why even wait until the end of the month to pay the credit card off? as long as there is a balance you are in debt even if the money is in the account already. I pay the card off as soon as the charge stops pending.
I really fight the "I deserve it" idea. I allow small treats. A square of chocolate, a bowl of popcorn I popped myself, two ingredient fudge I make myself. I try to be reasonable and within budget.
If you feel you deserve a treat and absolutely have to have one, you need to redefine your idea of treats. Not all treats cost money. You could get in touch with an old friend you haven’t talked to in a long time. You could research dream vacations for when you DO have money-- anticipation is a lot of the fun. You could watch RUclips videos to learn how to do the perfect cat eye, or how to crochet, or watch Free University course videos. If you have seeds or bulbs, you can’t plant those, if not, just planning a garden is fun. Imagination not money.
Don’t do it!!! Sing it, Sister! We all needed this non judgmental talk. Thank you ❤️. Don’t buy another kitchen anything. See what you already own that may work
Happy frugal Friday Kate! One of my frugal don’t is, don’t go out shopping without watching a frugal video! watching a frugal video before I go shopping is inspiring so I don’t overspend or buy unnecessary things! have an awesome frugal weekend, Kate! stay awesome!
Amazon. That is the flood in my boat. I pay off the card I use just for Amazon every month. I never carry a balance. BUT…now that Christmas shopping is done, I am refocusing for 23. Choices are changing. The last year I spent investing in food. We are stocked. Our needs are minimal. Christmas for the family children is our splurge. We know they are small for such a short time. We live within our means but we can do so much better. So I am putting Amazon on notice! 🤣 plugging that hole in my boat. Shopping will be strategic in 23! DONT DO IT! ❤️
Thanks for sharing this video Kate.....I've been debt free since 2009 Whoohoo!! But all seriously I love yr videos which pump me up to keep saving for my Car!! I plan on buying it all CASH!! And I will....what I put my mind to I do...But keep up the assume work that u do when making these videos.. You ROCK.....
As soon as I make a purchase, I deduct it from my checking account. In the space where the check # would go, I put a letter for whichever charge card I'm using (I use two for very specific reasons). That way I have already "paid" the money . I keep a running total, and when the bill is due, I pay it with the money I have already earmarked for it. I also spend money from specific budget categories somewhat like your's (but I have several sinking funds that i don't dip into). My friend told me that that's too confusing, but it's easy when you get used to it, and nothing gets overlooked. I refuse to pay interest too! 😁
This is a brilliant tip that I’m going to use. I agree with you it is easy. You could even use an old check register to keep track. Thanks for this tip.
I'm learning that if I focus on my sleep and fluids. If I do that I do better on everything else, weight management, and my moods. Newest frugal don't is to shop only with a list and anything purchased beyond the list (impulse buy) I either have to transfer an equal amount into a savings account or not buy and put on the next shopping list. Also trying to shop from my freezer and pantry, why if it's so full and I still need to buy so much at the store. Because I don't meal plan, that's why! Work in progress. Love your videos and practical advice.
I LOVE this video! So many ‘aha’ moments that I have lived by in the past and have slowly let go as I moved into a stronger financial position, but have seen the debt start to slowly increase again….thanks for these reminders and am hitting it hard starting now and watch out 2023! THANKS, KATE!❤

Hello! I am a brand new subscriber. I like your tips. They are all common sense. I have a little money on my credit card, we just bought a new (used) car and we are moving into a new rental house next week. I’ve just started eating at home exclusively and taking my lunch to work. My goal is to rework my money habits so we can rebuild our big savings. Thank you for the wonderful advice.
The one thing frugal people don't do is pay someone else for convience and services when they can avoid it. There was a time around here before the housing bubble when everyday smoes were paying others to mow the lawn, treat the lawn, prune the shrubbery, wash the car, vacuum the car, clean the house for so many hours a week, deep clean the house, prep meals, and so on and so on. There are times in one's life when you might have to pay someone to do these or some of these tasks; even when you're able bodied. But not so you can say: "Oh, I hire someone to do that." With respect to frugality, it extends beyond household chores and maintenance into most aspects of life. Each person has thier own skill set, personal financial and time/ labor budget, and preferences. What is an acceptable frugal activity to one person may not be to another. Yet, frugal people tend to do more of thier own tasks and not want to pay others for what they are able and willing to do themselves.
DON'T DO IT!! I was going to watch the live premier, I even set an alarm, which I turned off and promptly went back to sleep. oppps.... oh well, I needed the sleep and thankfully woke up long before my eye doctor appointment.
@@KateKaden I'm getting glasses.... sigh.... but it took only 2 minutes at the most to find frames I LOVE and fit just right. I was in and out of the optical shop in 10 minutes. I'll be getting my purple wired frames in 1-2 weeks.
My best tip is to find balance-whether that will be working, exercising or saving money. I have found if I work too much I end up being sick or extremely tired. Also have to watch when I try to cut out expenses the next month I end up spending way too much.
We tamped down into a stringent budget by the end of May (2022) when gas prices rose by about $1.50/ gal in 4, not quite 5 weeks, and we still had mandatory trips out of our area. We've done a number of purchasing and other behavior changes. Each month, we look for additional "opportunties" to reduce expenditures and currently, we're working on electricity usage creap while realizing we are up for a 17% rate increase and that some of that creap was actually related to fans for heat yet we were able to not need a/c as a result.
This is a hard talk and I needed it.! I hit the snooze button once this morning and was out the door in 20 minutes. I'm improving with my time sequence. Thanks Kate. Enjoy your weekend Kate and KSquad!
How do I handle over buying groceries? I have such an inventory of food both frozen and in my cupboards. My 4 kids are out of the house but still can’t figure out how to reduce and stop buying too much.
Oooh! You have a good inventory of pantry and frozen foods? That is great. Can you start pulling from there for one meal a week to start committing to using it up and removing one meal from your current purchase for a little bit? If that goes well, do TWO meals from there and try to use up what you have, to reduce buying too much currently? Sometimes I find if I just devote my change to one small thing it adds up in time:)
Hi Kate, I have experienced putting a positive spin on being frugal by doing this. I set up a glass jar and labeled it "Coffee, Breakfast and Tip @ Starbucks", and then would deposit the money I would have spent at Starbucks. After a few months if this, I had saved almost $1,000.
Yay! Ive never understood the Starbucks/Tim Hirtons thing! I see a those looong lines! Why?! I wake up, have coffee while Im getting ready, then brew a cup for the road!
I have an app called Easy Budget to keep track of my expenses to the penny. I have all my monthly expenses listed up to a year...and adjust it as I go ❤️ it !

For many people, being frugal on "this" enables them to better do "that" but if you do neither this or that, your world can become pretty darned small pretty darned fast.... LMAO. I'm so glad someone agrees with me about "I deserve it". That attitude drives me so crazy. And you're right - it makes no sense. All it does is keep the person lying awake at night worrying about debt. Is THAT what they deserve?
I went into Walmart yesterday because a neighbor told me the plastic outdoor chairs that are $30 this year were on clearance for $5. I needed some chairs so went to get a couple. I just went into garden center purchased just the chairs and left. I noticed most of the Walmart employees go to restaurant next door for breaks. I was thinking 🤔 wow so at least 1 hour per day closer to 2 hours daily to pay for lunch. It made me realize the true cost of eating out. How many hours does it take to earn that money? If make $15/hour then at least $5 for taxes and insurance removed from your check b4 you ever receive it. Meal costs $13-$15 and at least $20 for pizza. So may work 2 hours to pay for lunch. Is it worth it? Only the worker can decide.
I hear this all the time from my daughter about how she works so hard and deserves whatever she is buying at the time. She doesn’t see that it’s a catch 22. She is digging a deeper hold of debt! But I can’t get through to her.
Story from today: I brought my car in for some service - much of it covered under warranty. Thing is, I expected the maintenance to be no cost as that has been my history with the dealer where I got the car. Turns out -- that coverage has ended. Picking up my car it was close to $300 rather than $65 -- whaaaa?! While standing there - a bit in shock, I calmly handed over my debit card (paying cash). Without your guidance these past few months I wouldn't have known my full checking balance and MY BUDGET and would have put it on credit while I re-grouped. Instead, I paid cash, went home, adjusted my budget and boom! No new debt. Glory be!! I love your frank and real advice and encouragement. Thank you!! 🙏
Don’t do it! 😃😃😃 I’m one of those weird ones that wakes up at 3:30-4:30am to be at work by 6. Oooh yes, I love to read! I love psychological thrillers for fun but I also read books like Atomic habits or essentialism that are so helpful!

Don’t do it❗️🥰🥰
I wish I didn’t do it 😢
Our mortgage is my biggest worry. We went for 15 year mortgage and I wish we hadn't. But, I just keep thinking, it's not forever.
I hear that! YASSS! I'm already imagining the feeling you will have when it's PAID OFF! AHHH!!! Exciting!
NOOOO!
Dont do it!
Nooooooooooooo!no means no!
LMAO. I'm so glad someone agrees with me about "I deserve it". That attitude drives me so crazy. And you're right - it makes no sense. All it does is keep the person lying awake at night worrying about debt. Is THAT what they deserve?
Great video!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so so much for sharing with us Vicki!!! I'm so glad you're here!

SEROUS QUESTION???? If you use your credit card paying it off EVERY month IS IT STILL DEBT????? I’m COMPLETELY DEBT FREE INCLUDING MORTGAGE.... ??????
I don’t see it as debt because it’s paid off every month. It doesn’t hold over over time. Congratulations on being debt free!!!
Don't do it! Been there; done that... never, ever again!... Love your approach and attitude! Thank you Kate!
Thank you so much Nancy!
Don’t do it! Stay above water at all costs.
I hear this all the time from my daughter about how she works so hard and deserves whatever she is buying at the time. She doesn’t see that it’s a catch 22. She is digging a deeper hold of debt! But I can’t get through to her.
Tell her to watch Kate!!
Thank you!! 🙏
Don't do it! Keep away from Ebay auctions!
Don’t do it! 😃😃😃
I’m one of those weird ones that wakes up at 3:30-4:30am to be at work by 6. I enjoy cleaning house or playing some of my favorite video game, or compiling my shopping/couponing trip before I get my workday started… or my day off 🤣🤣
Thank you for the Friday feel good vibes as always Kate!
LOVE THIS!
