I took out a 30 year mortgage at age 60. My main goal was getting rid of the mortgage by age 70. I threw all I could on the mortgage. It was easier during covid time. I still owe $12,000 and will be mortgage free at age 69 1/2. Get excited about your goal. You can do it!
Im going to turn 46 in May. I own paid up my apartment. I have my car paid up. I don't have no loans. Neither I have stores accounts. My biggest expense is my daughter she is in grade 11 this year she will turn 17 next month. I don't receive no allowance from her Dad. We live in Johannesburg, South Africa. Im Tour Guide. I pay for my retirement. I also save monthly for my car replacement when I need to change eventually. I also save monthly for home maintenance. I also save for emergencies. I also save for education. In case something happen to me and I can't pay for education. My absolute pleasure is travel and once a month I go eat sushi and once a month I love eat ribs meat. Once a month or every 3 months I go to movies. I don't smoke, I don't drink alcohol. I don't go out with friends etc. I don't really socialise. I love my family my hubby, daughter and twice a week I visit my old parents. I see my brothers at my parents. I love my life.
I have used the Every Dollar budget app since my divorce in 2017. Frankly, I did it because I had no idea how I was going to make ends meet. Now here I am eight years later and I have nearly tripled by net worth. I will use this app for the rest of my life! Love your channel, great job!
I love the EveryDollar budget. I was so happy that I learned about it. Nerdy I know, but I get excited about planning next month’s budget and coming home after grocery shopping and updating my current budget. I realized it might have morphed into an obsession when I found a dime on the street and was excited to increase my current month budget by $.10
I am listening to you in Scotland where I have been for 1 of my 3 weeks. I began saving for air tics a year and a half ago. A year ago I began saving for my time here. I am staying with my sister. Free room, free board, free taxi. I pay for every 3rd adventure/ meal and have bought presents for those at home. I have only gone thru 20% of my $'s. My main point is... the year and a half flew by and here I am.
The spurt thing is so true! When I decided to save 1000€ as fast as possible it was on full force, every extra money was put on the savings account and it still makes me really proud of myself ☺️
I do all of those things you mentioned but the one that stuck out the most with me was that a person should be "willing to change the course if the goal no longer serves you". I have a prime example. My goal was to save enough money to buy a house outright in a cheaper area of Canada for retirement. Once I had reached that goal, I realized I would not only be isolated in a rural area, with no social support system, a disability that greatly affects my mobility and transportation options. Harsh winter conditions which would further isolate me from an unfamiliar community, and has high heating costs. The cost of the move, the actual purchase of the house and maintenance/repairs would deplete my savings drastically=no buffer. However, when I found out that my medical coverage would be compromised and the medical system was terrible in that area, I changed the course. Yes I was disappointed I hadn't followed through to fulfill my goal, however, knowing that I had actually reached the goal but it no longer served it's purpose for me (security), made it easier to rational my decision to change direction. Now I have plan B, C & D to think about. I have time to do this. It is nice to be part of a frugal community that understands.
Hey I really like your idea of going in brief bursts. Whenever I try anything - diet, budgeting, exercise... I can't keep it up and feel guilty. But this idea of giving it your all for brief periods of time and not feeling guilty when you need to take a break is a great attainable goal for me. Thanks!
I'm going to have to watch this again. Been feeling blah blah this month. Listening to you this morning, I could feel a little spark inside. Listening again should do the trick. You always make me happy.
I too fel tblah blah and watching this did put in a little spark I have no one to share my joy or struggles. Watching this encouraged me to share on this channel. Let's keep going, like Kate said keep your eye on the prize... hang in there
My no spend Jan was so successful I've morphed it in to no spend 1 quarter. But I'm struggling. So this video resonated with me. I know I'm going to want to buy some new items for my gardens in May. So I'm focused on setting aside a little money for May and I'm scouring websites for the best prices. Having fun imagining the items in my garden and enjoying a little planned splurge which will get me into my garden and happy place. 😊
Hi Kate, I got a second job recently, so been super busy, and not been able to stay up to date on RUclips. Missed seeing your positive videos, and hearing about how everyone is doing. The second job is allowing me to put some savings away, which feels good xx
TRVEl!! Is my goal! I’ve been frugal live in since 2019! And finally this year, in April I was able to take a month off from work and go on vacation! My work only pays one week vacation a year, The rest of time off was not covered by my work. I took a two week cruise and stayed another two weeks on the island!! And when I came back my bills were all covered, mortgage paid! I never fell behind!! All my coworkers were shocked that I was able to do that, but they all go out every weekend and buy expensive purses, while I go home and plan my next trip!!❤
I love all the tips and checking my accounts each morning has been a game changer. My dog is staying at the emergency vet tonight and I'm trying not to think of what it will cost. I do have Pet Insurance but it's still gonna cost me. I'm so happy to have the savings and be able to care for my little guy. Thanks!
I hear you loud and clear Kate!!! You’re helping me pay off my debt and I’m incredibly grateful for your knowledge and videos. My daughters graduating college next spring and my second goal is to gift her a beautiful trip to Europe. Thanks to you I’m on track to hitting my goal.
Thank you for the reset. My fridge broke in March and with all the stuff on the news I started craving food and shopping for clothes. I slipped badly. I need to rein myself in and this video will help. Thank you
We do a no spend, the last week of every month. No spend Month of December. In January, we buy what is 50-75% off, that we will use for ourselves, home or auto. We purchase 20% off gift cards for pizza's and subs. Home building supplies. We do a large garden.
I am working on paying off a mortgage, when I lose my motvation, I update my Net Worth sheet and love watching my liability total go down, and networth total continue to increase,,its truly motivational for me, especially as I get closer go retiring, I know the more I stick to my goal, the better my retirement will be.
Surround yourself with like minded people. I’m with a very small group and during this period time of my life it has been much better with my financial goals. Love your channel!!!
I like free or frugal ways to treat myself. Sometimes I get bored or restless and want to pick up my phone and shop. But lately I do something like take a walk with my dog or take a book to a coffee shop and sit and read for an hour or so. It gets me past that urge to spend money.
I just bought 2 kilos of cooking bacon , cleaned it all up took of the rind and cooked for crackle in my salads and chopped up the bacon in the fine pieces and put into IceCube trays for pasta , eggs x salads . Worked out so cheap and I have individual serves . Any savings will help me buy our home x
Having a mindset of opportunity and abundance instead of feeling deprived really helps so much with living frugally and meeting those savings goals. I think it’s the biggest single thing that changed that made a difference for my ability to save and be happy doing it.
The second thing that went along with this, is making a game of how I could have a need met while saving money. The first area I did this in was my kid’s clothing. I bought my kid’s clothes and most of their toys and equipment from a consignment shop near my house. After selling my stuff I no longer needed back through the shop for awhile, the owner asked if I would like to work there a couple hours a week for store credit. After that I got their clothes without spending money from the income coming in. I “double dipped” by getting checks from what I sold through the shop too. I found certain items sold for a lot higher than I could find them, and I would treasure hunt those items at other places, buy them cheaply and resell a big mark up through the shop the things I didn’t need, and it helped me to have extra cash to buy my own clothes and things for my house that I couldn’t get at her shop.
Chanelle here from SA. You are so motivating. Because financially things work slightly different this side I have to adjust some of yiur advice, but pls keep it coming. Just live u 2 bits!
I hear you!! Gotta say, I am the person that caved on the third day in January. I haven't "gone hard" yet. However, I have saved hundreds of dollars since January because I became aware of where my money has been going. It was embarrassing and eye opening to see how much I wasted money. Thank you for changing my financial life!! ❤
@@dianaschoen4485 mostly just random "little " things that would add up. A little toy for each kid, a couple treats every grocery trip, extra clothes for the kiddos. A lot of extra money on food we didn't really need. It was hard for me to figure out what exactly I was wasting money on because everything I bought we used or consumed but they weren't needs.
As soon as my balance transfer came through, I called my new credit card provider to get my account details so I could start paying down my debt. The persons confusion (apparently it’s not common to pay before the first bill comes)… was very satisfying. Now I pay off small amounts from my mystery shopping, surveys etc. and watch to wait for it to land… I just got a bonus from work, everyone else is buying shoes and other things. I paid extra off my debt and decided to get my dogs teeth cleaned as preventative to lower my costs next year. I’ve never been this organised but spending less, even though it’s not 2nd nature yet, definitely gives me more peace. Checking accounts daily really does help keep you motivated.
2 resonates, the 1st one with the big why and then the "what you are not changing you are choosing" ! For me the cash method works well for my food budget. Bills are paid automatically. Working a side job to save vacation money
The one that spoke to me was #4! I am always tracking my accounts every morning recently after starting my online account! Every morning I wake up and have some caffeine and check my accounts from two different banks! And it really is helping my checking account grow which hasn’t happened in a long time, but tracking my account is helping my checking account grow! My other accounts have been growing, but my checking never really grows, but after watching your tips about how you check your account every morning is why I implemented that into my daily routine! Thank you, Kate! Have an awesome and frugal Friday, Kate and K squad! If anyone hasn’t told you, you are amazing!
I am with you… I am NOT an envelope person. I am a very disciplined credit card user. As soon as I purchase something on the card I transfer the funds from my checking account.
Love the tips. I think the dont give up is for me. My partner will never budget the household expences but I try to do what I can re the food shop. He will buy out of housekeeping loads of things we do not need and tons of meat products that only he eats. It is difficult to counter this but I keep trying. I budget my own income and I work hard with that so that keeps me motivated.
I love this video. I watched a prior video of yours where you talked about picking a word for your intention for the year. Mine for this year is 'reset'. I'm resetting everything, my health, my financial situation, my priorities. Sometimes, it's just a daily reset if I'm having a hard time and need to take a day to de-stress and start again. Even my kid took a reset day and stayed home from school when she was having a rough day and came back fresh and ready to go. I'm currently single and I'm loving the freedom that gives me to really figure out what I want and where my priorities are and go after those without having another person throwing me off track. I'm adjusting things financially to change course a bit, decided to hold my RRSP contributions (I'm Canadian so we have RRSP's instead of 401k or whatever the US has) for the time being to focus on paying off my credit card and other debts. I hate that I'm not going to be saving for retirement but for my peace of mind, I'd rather pay off those debts and free up more money that I can put into the RRSP later. Anyway, I'm rambling a bit. Just wanted to say I love these tips. I love how real you are, how you let us know when you've made mistakes or had to change things up because they didn't work for you. We all go through this and it's ok to make mistakes or fail but not to give up entirely ❤️
"Go hard," spoke to me the most, followed by "go ahead and make mistakes .... and learn what works for you." Thanks Kate & Prince Kaden, and Buns the Beloved. Have a great weekend.
I HEAR YOU. I want more than anything to to pay off my car, and then my husbands car. Two care payments is RIDICULOUS. That extra $850 a month could be life changing. This past week we didn’t eat out at all. And that’s really big for us. I know we can do it again next week. Like you said it’s about the instant gratification. But it feels so good not to succumb to that, and to stay home and cook. Thank you so much for your content Kate!!
12 years ago I owed 48,000 in student loans. I had 2000 dollars. Renting. Chipping away at my debt weekly, monthly, yearly while adding to my savings. One income. I’ve always been very goal oriented. Now: Mortgage will be paid next year. No debt. High net worth. It all adds up. My current goal is early retirement. Just keep going!
Just found your channel & so glad I did!! I've been really careless with my money in the last few months & watching a few of your videos has made me "wake up" & get back on the wagon!! Thank you!!!
I HEAR YOU 👂 😐 AND. I AM DOING GOOD AND FOCUSED FOR FEBRUARY I AM DEDICATED THIS WEEK TO SAVING MONEY 💰 🤑 💸 ( STAYING HOME AND DECLUTTERING) A CLEAN HOME IS A HAPPY HOME)
Thank u kate for your tips. I love yr tip on not giving up. I have been trying to live frugal to save more money and i am making mistakes. So from tomorrow i am going to start new
I hear you! I’m building a new home, and I’ve lost 25 pounds! I’m freaking out a little with the economy right now, but I’m holding tight to my budget constrictions. Thank you for your videos-they are good encouragement!
I’m an envelope system gal. I LOVE loading the envelopes each payday and watching the balances grow. It’s super satisfying. And it definitely helps me to be more aware of where and when I spend money.
"What you're not changing you're choosing". Bloody BRILLIANT!! That ranks right up there with Maya Angelou's "when people show you who they are... believe them". Yea baby!
Love your channel. The way you deliver your messages is so refreshing and inspiring. No nonsense and so much great information. I wish you posted daily! I also listen to Frugal Money Saver, love love love them. Highly recommended!
I hear you!! And I am starting to track what I am spending and getting better at that! I canceled a monthly subscription that I wasn’t using. I also have a certain dollar amount that I use for monthly spending. Out of that comes haircuts, gas for the car, eating out, etc. Any money left over at the end of the month is not rolled over, but put back for Christmas gifts. I use a combination of ideas to meat my budget goals. Property taxes and water bill goes in an envelope and several bills are automatically deducted from my checking account monthly. It helps me keep on track!
I remember as a child my parents had my sister and I do the envelope system with our allowance thats how I learned to budget I don't do it that way today but it's a good system for some
I hear you!! Spurts are the way for sure :) We powered through the first 3months of the year and killed it on paying extra toward the house. I'm kind of waning now that the weather is warming up. I know I'll go hard again, but I really want to give ourselves more wiggle room for a little while.
I hear you! I definitely do better with short spurts of working on specific goals vs slow & steady. I need to replenish my emergency fund and plan to go hard for a few weeks on that! My cat was meowing while I watched this and it sounded like her and buns were having a conversation for a minute there 😂😂😂
Good morning Kate.. i just wait for ur Frugal Friday video.. Ur positivity really motivates me.. whole week i just watch ur videos for motivation.. can't Thank you enough.. Loads of Love to you and Kaden.. Have a great weekend.
I hear you :) I am cutting down on my main full time job to work part time and build my rising home business. I know if I can be more intentional with spending, I will have more freedom.
I am rather a long run kind of person in everything I do. After decades of budgeting, setting goals, and practicing frugality, it comes naturally. However, I love the idea of rewarding myself with a bubble bath, a huge bowl of my favorite fruits, or a long hike at the end of the week.
All good tips. For me, number one goal has helped the most. Have a Goal that is a passion to obtain really works. Yes, visualize if that doesn't work, make a picture poster board with cut out magazine pictures or draw your own. Whatever it takes you to obtain what you really want. You deserve it. 💐🤗💐🐦🦋🐈
Hi Kate. I had never seen your channel before, not sure how I missed it. What can I say? I like you. Good info and upbeat. Good job!

Thanks for the encouragement! This, too, is a goal of mine.

Wow you guys are so fortunate to get a "bond" as we call it in South African at that age.
I'm so happy you almost there.

AHHH! Thank you Marino!!!!! Have an awesome weekend also!!!!
Love your cat bunns he is telling us his own story❤
I am with you… I am NOT an envelope person. I am a very disciplined credit card user. As soon as I purchase something on the card I transfer the funds from my checking account.
LOVE THIS PENNI!
I hear you and I enjoy your uplifting messages and getting to the point nicely lol
I love the cash envelope system. It's has worked for me for years.
Thanks for another great video! The one that spoke to me, pumped me up, was "Dont give up!" Best wishes to KSquad! Let's do this!
YESS Let's DO THIS! Thank you Sheila!!!
"Buns the beloved" love that 😻
Ohhh I needed this! The cash envelops drove me nutz-- Changing goals because time and life has changed-- need to really go for.
Not having a car payment will be great. When we got debt free that was the best debt gone for us. Felt like a huge pay raise.
Where is your tiger cat, Mr Hanum?
Ah, there he was. Thanks for the brief picture.
He was sound asleep on my bed:) :) :)
JOANNA!!! YOU ROCK!
Excellent!
Good for you Joanna 👋 Taking care of your mortgage before retiring is brilliant 🥳

I hear you! I’m building a new home, and I’ve lost 25 pounds! I’m freaking out a little with the economy right now, but I’m holding tight to my budget constrictions. Thank you for your videos-they are good encouragement!
WOW!!!!!! YOU ROCK!!! THAT IS AMAZING! So proud of you!
I’m an envelope system gal. I LOVE loading the envelopes each payday and watching the balances grow. It’s super satisfying. And it definitely helps me to be more aware of where and when I spend money.
Go hard in short spurts. I love that. I am going to do that for my weight loss, because I desperately need it.
YASSS Hannah!
Almost frugal Friday! I will be there tomorrow 🌷🐖
YASS! My favorite day of the week!
I hear you, Kate! Thank you for making these life-changing videos! 🤗
"What you're not changing you're choosing". Bloody BRILLIANT!! That ranks right up there with Maya Angelou's "when people show you who they are... believe them". Yea baby!
Oh I love that quote too!!😍😍😍
Love your channel. The way you deliver your messages is so refreshing and inspiring. No nonsense and so much great information. I wish you posted daily! I also listen to Frugal Money Saver, love love love them. Highly recommended!
Linda that is a HUGE COMPLIMENT and it means the world to me! THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!
Oh and yes I love Frugal Money Saver too!!
Totally agree with Linda a daily video from you would be wonderful and really help to keep us on tack.
I totally agree! Planning inexpensive fun is my number one way to help us stay on track with our budget.
That was so interesting thank you.I love the spurt idea 💡 I definitely will be trying this ,starting with no spend January 2023 🎉
🙏❤️
I hear you!! 📯
Friday treat day work all week need something to look forward to chocolate lol x
I remember as a child my parents had my sister and I do the envelope system with our allowance thats how I learned to budget I don't do it that way today but it's a good system for some
Going for a no spend week this week. Then a no spend May. No spend year... bad start.
My cat was meowing while I watched this and it sounded like her and buns were having a conversation for a minute there 😂😂😂
I HEAR YOU Kate....
Good morning Kate.. i just wait for ur Frugal Friday video.. Ur positivity really motivates me.. whole week i just watch ur videos for motivation.. can't Thank you enough.. Loads of Love to you and Kaden.. Have a great weekend.

OMG Buns is needy in this one 🤣🤣.
This is Katrina on my husband's tablet he prefers my iPad.
Seriously going rice and beans soon .
I hear you Kate and keep saying it! Those who fail to plan, plan to fail
The visualization of the destination...mine is a mountain side with my husband (and he is onboard).
Trying my best 🎉
I hear you :) I am cutting down on my main full time job to work part time and build my rising home business. I know if I can be more intentional with spending, I will have more freedom.
The sprint spoke to me
I hear you loud and clear!
Also I’m happy for you in your weight loss!! Last year I lost 60 lbs !
60lbs!!! NICOLE! You are amazing! WAY TO GO!
@@KateKaden
Thank you so much ☺️ I’m short too so it was a hard mission!
I am rather a long run kind of person in everything I do. After decades of budgeting, setting goals, and practicing frugality, it comes naturally. However, I love the idea of rewarding myself with a bubble bath, a huge bowl of my favorite fruits, or a long hike at the end of the week.
YASS Susanne! Thank you so much for watching and sharing with us!
I HEAR YOU (in the playback)!!! 🤗
All good tips. For me, number one goal has helped the most. Have a Goal that is a passion to obtain really works. Yes, visualize if that doesn't work, make a picture poster board with cut out magazine pictures or draw your own. Whatever it takes you to obtain what you really want. You deserve it. 💐🤗💐🐦🦋🐈
