My favorite Superman Take-off. He's in a rush.... Flies through the concrete..Flys up and gets his bearing and turns toward the missle. This scene was so EXCITING when I first saw it as a boy. I am now 53 and I still get goosebumps. Thank you Christopher Reeve... You made me believe a man could fly.
He portrayed the character so perfectly. The way he tenderly touches her face when she says why she can't find a God guy. You can see the compassion. ❤ He will forever be my favorite super hero
Maybe she sucks at looking then. If there are plenty of women who are good enough to guys, then there should be plenty of guys who are good enough to women.
I think what made Reeve so unique was he was Clark first and Superman second, if that makes any sense. Even when he switched into Superman he maintained the earnestness, innocence and naivete in seeing things in black and white (for the most part). He really played the role as if he was a big wholesome boy inside a man's body. And of course he topped things off with the right look, physique, mannerisms, voice, everything. The biggest problem the Cavill movies have is that you have a moody, conflicted Superman and that's just not who Superman is supposed to be. I guess times change and our values change affecting our movies. But in my view, Superman and what he stands for should never change.
Shiwanker Bantawa Rai Superman has to be careful based upon his gravitational vibration, because he can set the rocket off in mid air explosion, that’s why he had to correct his timing in this scene to be able to catch up with the rocket and time the speed or else detonation, because Superman’s top speed is beyond speed of light, the same as Flash.
this is one of my favorite scenes in all of superman films. It just had a perfect build-up of excitement between the scene and John WIlliam's score. We couldn't WAIT for Supers to bust out of there and stop Lex's missile!!!

Henry Cavil's contribution to the cinematic version of Superman is that he is the first one to actually be built like the comic book Superman. Brandon Routh, Dean Cain, Tom Welling all added something to the role as well, but the champion was Christopher Reeve.

0:20 Though that this kiss ended costing the life to Lois Lane, because if Teschmarcher would took away earlier the necklace, than wasted the time kissing him, Superman won't lost this valuable seconds, that would allowed him saved Lois just in time, without need to reverse the time.
I was a pup when this movie came out and I must've watched the whole thing with my mouth open. I thought it was one of the most amazing movies ever. Donner is certifiably one of the Knights of the Action Cinema Round Table. Watching it now as a grown-up Gene Hackman's one-liners and casual cruelty are hilarious! He was made for this role. And I think if Perrine and Kidder would've switched roles the movie wouldn't have missed a beat.
This was also a very expensive tentpole blockbuster. Realistic effects just aren’t feasible on a CW level budget for any show. Just look at Watchmen on HBO, which was a prestige show with an HBO budget. We didn’t get much in the way of effects, period. And when we got Dr Manhattan, it was a guy painted blue in a latex skullcap.
This was yet another excellent scene of such a beautifully made movie. I assume that Superman had difficulty & took too much time to catch the first missile (making him too late to get the second one) because he'd been weakened by the Kryptonite. It took lots of good ol' healthy yellow sun exposure time for him to regenerate to his full Einsteinian time-reversing speed. A good long cry over Lois' dead body in the hot desert sun did him a world of good. On a trickier note, we'll all have to overlook the goof that if it was nighttime as he left Metropolis, it would not have suddenly been daytime in the desert, to the west... far enough into the daytime for Lois to drive until she was out of gas and for Jimmy to tour the dam. Details, details.
0:34 why did she 😘 him for no reason? 1:22 Superman flying to San Andreas. 2:05-2:07 bad idea to hold the nails in your mouth. 2:11-2:31 to infinity and beyond! 3:01 😆
Otis: Wait, aren't you even gonna watch Superman? He could get away. Lex Luthor: No no no, I'm going to leave Superman alone and not actually witness him dying, I'm just gonna assume it all went to plan. What?
Looking back on it now, going after the Hackensack missile first was actually the right decision. Ground zero for a potential Hackensack missile strike and explosion would've definitely been more densely populated than that inside the San Andreas Fault. No way Supes would've prevented casualties in that scenario, outside of the time-reversal maneuver.
Later on he flies around the Earth 20 times a second so fast that he makes the Earth spin backwards , changes the direction of time itself , and he goes at something like 5 million miles an hour? And yet he can barely catch a missile going at what…max 10,000 miles an hour? Am I missing something? 😮
She said why can't I get it on with a good guy? ...... As long as vision of a superman regardless of how time wants to change the image you will be there lives and you will be for 🇺🇸
In the MAD magazine parody, Luthor shows Superman the Kryptonite and says, "What's the matter, 'Stupidman'? Feeling a little weak in the knees?" and Superman says, "Yes...and the broad in the bikini isn't helping any!"
Because he needs to be extra careful to approach the missile in the right angle to prevent his hair style being messed up by the hot air from that huge hair blower. Orbiting around the earth does not have such concern, because it is empty space out there.
In the TV cut, they show that the missiles have a new "avoidance system" that will thwart any attempt to shoot them down....Superman looks in awe as the missile comes right to him and then swerves to avoid him. While this is a cruise missile, the footage of the missiles being launched was taken from a Minuteman rocket launch at Andrews Air Force Base...the Minuteman is an ICBM, meaning instead of traveling parallel with the ground, it flies high into the air and then releases its MIRV warheads which have their own targeting system so the missile can hit multiple targets.
I always admired Christopher Reeve, both as an actor and for his offscreen self, but I've had three questions about this film ever since I saw it in the theater in 1978: 1. What on Earth (or Krypton) is Jor-El talking about when he says to Clark in the Fortress: "By your reckoning, I will have been dead for many thousands of years"? Luthor later says "Krypton exploded in 1948.", which would make Superman 30 in 1978, which seems about right. (Reeve was actually 26). What's with the earlier statement? 2. What became of the Kryptonite after it went down the drain? 3. If Superman is hot on the trail of a missile headed for Hackensack, New Jersey, anybody care to explain where there are desert areas in that part of the country? (Especially if we're supposed to believe that Metropolis is New York, which it's pretty hard NOT to, after Superman and Lois did their little fly-by past the Statue of Liberty). I should add that I was the sort of child who, when I was read "Rumpelstiltskin", and the story got to the part where the Queen offered Rumpelstiltskin "all the riches of her kingdom" to not take her child, piped up: "But he can spin gold out of straw! Why's she offering him money?"
1. There are relativistic effects at play that distort time and space. It's very difficult to say what time it is in another galaxy relative to us. In the three years it took Kal-El to travel to earth thousands of years could pass for the space Krypton formerly occupied since he was clearly traveling at supra-relativistic speeds. Furthermore time may pass differently on Earth than Krypton if the Earth itself moves through space faster than Krypton. So in that sense Jor-El can state it has been many thousands of years, if indeed Superman is reckoning in this way, which makes sense as he was taught Einstein's theories. 2. It wound up in the sewer, conveniently available to be put to use in a sequel if necessary. 3. I don't remember exactly, but I don't think it's stated the missiles are launched from Metropolis.
Even though the Effects are outdated, something about watching it still look and feel amazing as it holds up even in 2023 compared to the CG like in the Flash Movie which was terrilbe
