Watering Potatoes the "man" way

This is how I water my potatoes and onions, using a slurry tanker with 4500lts of water.

Eddie Vedder makes everything better. Help me out, simple question. What do potatoes want? Wet mud, constant moist or almost dry soil? That looks like it outta mud for a day and then dry out?? How often do u do that? Thanks!!
