As a twenty-year trucking veteran, and 2.5 million miles, I’ll say it right here--trucking is a cut-throat business. You’re chances of being lied to if you start a trucking company is nearly 100%. Shippers and trucking companies will tell you a million lies to get you through the door, but then once you start hauling for them, the reality is uncovered. Expect to make 70% as much as they told you you’d make. Also, expect to work 10 more hours per week than they promised. Too much government control and regulations. To make good money, you will need 3-4 trucks running. If you can’t afford this, the only other answer is to buy your own truck and go out on the road. Consider trucking to be like a college education. There are no books that will tell you how to do it, and other owner operators are hesitant to help you since you will be their competition. If you're looking into starting your own trucking company this 2023 then I will recommend you look into getting a Governmental business grant. I was approved and awarded $280k as startup capital. Today as a company owner, independent owner operator running under my own authority, 11 years running under my own authority. I do a 15 -16 day run. $25,000 in line haul is my goal. Every month is a 10+ day vacation. I run a reefer and only spend $16,000 to $21,000 a year in maintenance. After taxes, fuel and licensing I profit $190,000 in the bank. There is no short cut to success. Get your own authority and work open broker boards for trips. You will never see the big money off this industry as a COMPANY SLAVE. I wish everyone reading this comment a successful business week.

I just went to your website because of your comment and I been frustrated driving for someone else not making my own money but how much is a down payment usually?
He said the name of the Truck Sales Company folks, but since this video it’s no longer $5000 down---> “New 2023 models are $10,000 down and $835 per week. Used units are $7,500 down and $750 per week.” Is that a decent deal?
I write insurance and most people cannot, cannot afford the insurance. I repeat most people cannot afford the insurance. I get young people from 21 and up who purchase tractors and can’t afford the insurance. You cannot get on the road or haul for any company like Amazon, XPO etc. without all the required insurance policies. And they are a minimum of 3 that you need. Getting a tractor is the easy part. Trucking is a serious business and not to get into likely. Many have to get loans just to pay the insurance for the year which can cost any where from $20,000 to $40,000 total depending on the coverages and the number of units that you have. You have to know what you are doing before you get a tractor ( truck).

U know it's crazy listening to this man's story about him and his father, where my pops told me get my cdl, and we would drive together, and I could learn from him. The sad part was I did get my cdl, but my father never did any of what he said... Some people only make it because of the love and nurturement of their parents
I also told my son to get his CDL and run teams with me so that I could teach him the business from the front line, but my daughter-in-law told me he wasn’t interested in going over the road driving. Those who want it can’t get it, and for others whom have it at their finger tips - they don’t want to better their financial future.

Bro, loved the video!!! Most of all, HAD TO PRESS PAUSE FOR A SECOND, TO "JOT DOWN" THE SAYING YOU SAID IN THE BEGINNING ABOUT A PATH TAKEN, WILL BE MET WITH LITTLE TO NO INTERFERENCE, WHEN IT'S TRULY MEANT TO BE TAKEN... NOW THAT MY FRIEND WAS A NOTE WORTH TAKING NOT TO MENTION ALL THE OTHER INFORMATION EXTREMELY VALUABLE BUT THERE'S SOME TIMES IN SOME CASES WHERE A PHRASE SUCH AS THAT IS WORTH REMEMBERING!!! 💯💯💯 AGAIN THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO AND THE INFO IT WAS TRULY HELPFUL!!!
Thanks for the great heads up with the information, so many people in this business are so tite liped with the information because they don't want you to succeed before they do, what God has for you can't be taken away or blocked, bless you brother and much success, thanks again
Keep going I appreciate all the tips, ima 22 y/o merchant marine and I’m looking to start a new business venture in trucking. My grandfather ran trucks too.
Thanks man for put your time for people like me. Currently in my transition out the military ready to take my CDL course and looking forward to have my own truck after couple years.
What was your MOS ?!? if you were an 88 like me you can get a waiver for truck driving !! I mean the school would still be helpful but it’s good to know you can possibly skip it
Great video bro I agree with a lot of what you said. If something is meant for you it definitely will flow naturally. I recently got into the truck industry myself by way of box trucks. I’m still learning but it feels natural. I plan on getting up to an 18 wheeler one day. It has always been my dream. Keep it up

What’s up man! I’ve been watching you channel all day for real and just catching up! First, congrats on all you have accomplished! Second, thank you for your channel & the information you share with the world! It’s currently help me take notes, brainstorm, & plan. I literally just started my LLC 2 days after Christmas 2021. I’m excited and eager to learn and grow. I’m looking for a team to help me out as we speak (dispatcher & drivers). But before that i might have to make that trip to Utah for a truck! I have my business & business bank acct. working on my website this weekend. Thanks again bro and my bad for the lengthy comment, u are very inspiring and your a young dude, that speaks volumes brother! 💯 I’m trying to grow and build!
Greetings brother...First & foremost congrats on the LLC! I can recall my initial startup, like it was yesterday! August 31st, of 2022 I will have been on LLC status for 3 years. There is a lot that comes along with this business...A LOT! Establishing trade lines is the route to go, also register with Dun & Bradstreet, if you have not already done so, it is FREE TO REGISTER! My advice, do not purchase any of their offers of services, as they are not needed currently , as you are only an EIN possessor at this point. Also, are you a CDL possessor? Just curious as I am a CDL possessor, with all endorsements/TWIC, etc.. Feel free to reach out Brother, Black Star Lines LLC, -R. L. D. J.
@@blacckstarrracing7823 thanks a lot brother!! I don’t plan on driving bc I’m still active duty & no, i don’t have a CDL. I’m even considering Freight Brokerage route as well
Did I miss something? Because I didn’t hear anywhere he mentioned the truck dealer name or exact location??? I believe there’ll be many dealers in UTAH
Your a true inspiration man. I been watching your videos & studying the truck industry & your free game is what is making want to pull the trigger on a semi. Keep up the great content! I’ve been driving all year helping my dad out who’s an owner op with only my permit, due to my side jobs always getting in the way of making my driving appointment & also procrastination on the lack of knowledge I had in the industry. I was a union carpenter that left the union when COVID hit & has been on a journey to keep my word on never going back. Working for myself doing my own jobs was great money but at the end of the day it is still super back breaking. Therefore now that your journey has literally set a step by step path to follow I am about 90% convinced on buying my own truck & hoping into the industry. But the last piece of information I’m looking for boss is insurance info on a new CDL license. I’ve yet to catch any exact info on how or where you got your insurance & that’s the only thing that I need to fully study before I make my leap of faith. I know I can’t call any insurances right now due to me not having my license yet but my dmv appointment is early December & if you can put that info out there or tell me in witch video that information is in if gradually appreciate it 🙏🏼
Great content Sir. I am a freight dispatcher and I help owner operators find loads to keep their trucks on the road. Thinking about getting my own truck in the future and will definitely use this information.
Great stuff! I manage a small trucking fleet out of Utah. You’re doing it the right way and it’s refreshing to see! Keep it up and yes I just subscribed today to get more of your content!
I’m working on getting my CDLs back it’s kinda of hard for me right now I lost them due to a drug test and I knew better and learned my lesson .. so now I have to get a job good enough so I can pay off my tickets I had got in my car but I lost everything I am now homeless.. but I won’t give up I’m happy it’s people out here to motivate me .. I have to just keep pushing .. I just wish I had more support everyone gave up on me except me
Thank you for the transparency in your trucking journey. I’m learning a lot from your videos. I’m just finishing CDL school and also want to be an owner operator.
This can backfire if you don't have reliable drivers. Lease to own is a good and bad thing. The best course of action is paying cash for a truck. You typically have a mile per year cap just like a car you will pay for every mile over.
Thanks for the WISDOM. I live in WashDC. My credit is bad bad. And I need to know how to start a business. Or at least start somewhere to be a driver. Drive for me. My credit is not 650. So I'm done
@@eddieabbott370 You can be a company driver, save heavily and build your credit. Then when you're ready, buy a truck But you should be doing your research and understand all that's involved.

One thing I learned in my over a decade of OTR trucking is that there is no such a thing as free lunch in life. Cash, Credit card, or loan; it still came out of your wallet. Coming from carhauling, the norm was around 30k down payment on brand new 280k rig depending on the type and trailer manufacturer. Either way, we usually Financed at 3.5k to 4k a month. Paid off in 5years. Leasing a used truck with no trailer for 3k a month is crazy. At that rate For a 140k freighliner, one would have paid it off in less than 4 years. Why even lease it for a DAY? If it was me, I won't do it. Oh, the buyout option is Usually never worth it. Most of the time, the buyout price is the going price for that truck. This is my personal opinion, I left the game 4 years ago so take it with a grain of salt, the game might have been reinvented why I was gone. To me, this is absolutely crazy!
I appreciate your acknowledging a blessing vs. luck. I've only watched two of your videos and both of them have been informative, direct, and concise. Keep it coming.
Try LMR LEASING same as everything you just said but only a 101$ Buyout. No credit check same requirements but more inventory. Locations in California and Dallas Fort Worth.

Respect bro definitely ready to starting my diesel trucking journey because of your vids. You are a true bleesing and I hope to get to tell you how mine goes once I get my foot in the door. Be safe out there ! Im omw to the top right behind you !
Very unique outcome. Unfortunately i dont live in utah. But it gives me something to look into
Respect my man, is all about the mindset you put in this game. No better trainer than a parent who gonna give you the real deal about trucking.
Keep pushing young G
I appreciate that your are sharing your experience, this can help put a lot young drivers on the right path.
Honestly, brother is a definition of everything is a mindset
1. CDL license
2. No experience
3. Down payment
4. Insurance
5. Business bank account

State of UTAH
Too many truck dealers in UTAH but which one exactly did he got his trucks
That’s my question smh I’ve been looking
@@bakoreyhabibi7126 watch his video. He says it. Or follow him on Instagram.
I love how you set the goals in this video. That’s what I do I say 8,000 a week low at 10,000 a week I only work 4 days a week as a truck operators. It’s plenty of money 💰 put here -let’s eat
It took me a long time to learn that, but it’s all about faith and trusting the process! Appreciate the support 🤝
Ken...where u bought your truck...you said it so fast I couldn't understand...plz help a brutha out...
It’s in you automatically then
GOD BLESS YOUR SOUL MY BROTHER 🙏🏾💙
Thanks man for put your time for people like me. Currently in my transition out the military ready to take my CDL course and looking forward to have my own truck after couple years.
Good luck on your journey and appreciate you for your service!
Just got out the Military aswell I’m right behind you brother
What was your MOS ?!? if you were an 88 like me you can get a waiver for truck driving !! I mean the school would still be helpful but it’s good to know you can possibly skip it
Congratulations!! Thanks for sharing! I appreciate it. Keep up the good work young brotha!
Great video bro I agree with a lot of what you said. If something is meant for you it definitely will flow naturally. I recently got into the truck industry myself by way of box trucks. I’m still learning but it feels natural. I plan on getting up to an 18 wheeler one day. It has always been my dream. Keep it up
15:15 he finally says the company’s name where he got the truck from.
Ken, your success story is like a J.K. Rowling novel, but not fiction. Each chapter is original yet informative. The plot lines are plentiful yet always expanding. Once this book wraps up... K.V. on to the next story. I know your Pops is proud. I love your energy, excitement, and humility. Keep up the great job young man.
It’s a lot of African American males with a story like this unfortunately.. we have to overcome a lot to be successful

GOD bless my brother love to hear you are a believer and you are giving people valuable information and not trying to sale consultant courses keeping trusting the lord and moving forward by his grace and mercy
Excellent information and yes I watched it all the way until the end. I am about to start training with a company to drive but it might not be a bad idea after I get out on my own to go ahead and get my name on the waiting list right away. Best of luck to you in your endeavors
Am happy I got this channel
Just helped my bro in law est his business Credit if you need info concerning that lmk✊🏾💯
@@zeelive2411 most definitely bro. Thank you! I was actually looking into grants and Kabbage for business credit line
It was the original sound effects for me!

I know I can’t call any insurances right now due to me not having my license yet but my dmv appointment is early December & if you can put that info out there or tell me in witch video that information is in if gradually appreciate it 🙏🏼
Did you start?
Great content Sir. I am a freight dispatcher and I help owner operators find loads to keep their trucks on the road. Thinking about getting my own truck in the future and will definitely use this information.
Hey how did into freight dispatcher ?
Great stuff! I manage a small trucking fleet out of Utah. You’re doing it the right way and it’s refreshing to see! Keep it up and yes I just subscribed today to get more of your content!
Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
I’m working on getting my CDLs back it’s kinda of hard for me right now I lost them due to a drug test and I knew better and learned my lesson .. so now I have to get a job good enough so I can pay off my tickets I had got in my car but I lost everything I am now homeless.. but I won’t give up I’m happy it’s people out here to motivate me .. I have to just keep pushing .. I just wish I had more support everyone gave up on me except me
Thank you for the transparency in your trucking journey. I’m learning a lot from your videos. I’m just finishing CDL school and also want to be an owner operator.
Glad I could be a positive influence !
Great job bro I work for the state of NY now I’m changing careers to trucking
This is worth my subscription. Weldon Ken, you're doing a good job. I'm learning a lot from you now!
real love!
U re doing well
Nice good job young man yo dad's a real man bro God Bless u
I am 28 with a fleet of 11 trucks, keep grinding.
How did you do it bro?
@@psyheim ain’t no secret bro. Just saved up and grinder. Been in this industry since I was young tho, but never driven a truck before. Always been on the operations end. Follow me on IG @Lospoker24 and DM me. We can talk there if you’d like

Great information Young man! Keep doing what you're doing.
The only way
Im planning on buying my first semi truck in 2 years too. All cash. I’ll be 24 by then too! Wish me luck brother
You living my dream men I hope god give you the best and keep you save I moved to USA but didn’t make in corona time so I just went back to Sweden.
It’s refreshing to see a young man as yourself breaking banks!!! ♥️
