Or you just wet your drywall tape ring it out between your index and middle finger to get the excess water off. It will then stick to the mud like glue.
This is what i do. I learned this on my last DIY and its an amazing trick
I assume if the tape has cracked through the paint you would want to pull the old tape out and apply new tape. Would this be a correct assumption?

I have a corner in my bathroom that is a bit uneven and banged up. Can I re-tape and compound the painted corner surface?
You will want to sand the painted area to rough up the surface so that the joint compound has a better chance of adhering
Paper tape is worthless. Once everything dries, the tape releases from the wall and your mud/paint peels off. It's a terrible procedure and a lie for good results.
Man, I'd watch this video but your lack of concern for recording it correctly simply ruins it. Vertical video looks horrible, man.
