I just built a Truenas/Plex box with a bundle off of Microcenter - Z690 Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX DDR4, i7-12700k, and 16 gigs of ripjaws RAM for $280. I added a Thermalright Peerless Assassin SE air cooler, a few small NVME drives, more RAM, and a bunch of rotational drives. The motherboard supports PCI 5.0, but only DDR 4 RAM. To be honest, that was completely fine with me.
Without the cost of the rotational drives, I think the PC cost me under $700, and I even put it in a nice case (Antec P101).
If you're willing to slum it with the last gen hardware, you can get amazing deals and still have nearly top-notch performance.

.. Great Channel .. Great Vid Series .. Thanks for promoting the DIY Builds and Information .. sadly I won't be building any of these as I have had a lifetime of Intel's and Invidia's "garbage" (I've been at this since my Dad brought home a TRS-80) .. I remember buying my first PC (an Acer actually) and upgrading it with a math co-processor (Cyrix) well before there was even a "Pentium" CPU .. Once a suitable replacement for Microsoft/Windows comes into reality I'll be ditching MS as well ..

Only problem with that though is if one part is faulty you can't take it back to the shop because you waited too long and instead have to RMA it back to the manufacturer(example: Corsair, Gigabyte, ASrock, Western Digital, etc.).

Wow... not ussing water cooler for 12600k?? K version needs to be overclocked and that air cooler is not goona do anything. This build is gonna be so hot....not overclocking 12600k is such a waste. You should just go with 12500 which is cheaper and similar power to non overclocked 12600k

Not hard to make a cheap pc when you use cheap parts. Surely no one is surprised by this.

Pretty much paid sponsorship from nvidia, the 3050 is pretty bad compared to the rx 6600 or even the a750.
