The worst part is that this game cost $50 USD on launch. An online reviewer at the time refused to review this game, and instead suggested spending $50 dollars towards buying the Robocop DVD, a replica airsoft gun, and meatball sandwich.
The most legendary review I've ever seen. I think he went on to Giant Bomb? I don't think he's still there, but I wonder if he has a follow up with Rogue City.
Blood Dragon deserved its own standalone franchise. Its literally the best of all the far cry games. Screw Far Cry 5 and its lame rehashed Far Cry 3 setting..
I wish far cry 3 and blood dragon were better optimized for PC. I can run far cry primal maxed out without a single hiccup, but try to run 3 or blood dragon and it runs like ass constantly. What a shame.
It's the same overall set up of Far Cry 2, 3, and 4. Some form of despot takes over a community/country and its your job to go and remove them. This set up worked fine in destabilized locations, but the US? Look up what happened in Waco Texas in the 1990s to a similar religious cult. If Ubisoft truly wanted praise, they should've gone with a wild western, Vietnam War, or other setting. Even the freakin trucks the cult members are driving is literally the same game model the bad guys drive in Far Cry 3 and 4. The only interesting game Ubisoft has got at this point is that Mario Rabbids game lol.
that's OK, I was able to watch silence of the lambs at 13. And for some reason, someone was always watching law and order 85% of the time when i was 10.
To be fair, Superman 64 was originally supposed to be at least marginally better but DC got involved with the creative process. The prototype of the game doesn't have Superman flying through hoops.
Red Faction 1 is one of my favorite FPS games from PS2. The Best version to play theses days is on PS4 in the PS2 on PS4 section. This version is upscaled to 1080p and fully supports Trophies. The pc version on Steam has no such things. Still a great game, but those mercenary enemies are a pain.
@@Gruntvc You can get the Dash Faction mod though which gets you pretty close and has widescreen support, I have played both and the PC also has multiplayer which people still play, so I would say it's slightly better.
They also made a very decent series of platformers - Prehistorik and couple of other arcade games in the early 90's. But everybody remember the worst one...
Rocksteady and IO Interactive could potentially make an FPS RoboCop game work. Look at Urban Chaos: Riot Response Well we're getting one from the guys behind Terminator: Resistance so should be cool.
When I was 5, RoboCop 3 was released and a shitload of toys came out. I loved robots and asked my dad for a 12 inch talking RoboCop figure from a catalog. It just so happened we owned Robocop 1 on VHS and after watching it, it was my favorite movie ever. Now as an adult I can appreciate the plot, acting and satire as much as the badass visuals when I was 5 years old. Most awesome childhood ever. "YOUR MOVE, CREEP!!!"
Rogue City is AWESOME. Just finished the Demo at 4K (DLSS Quality) and it was fantastic. A few issues here and there, but it's the best Robocop game we've ever got!
Having Played Virtua Cop 2, I think that Robocop would have worked pretty well in an on rails shooter format: focus on target shooting and accuracy while the game does the moving for you. Hell, Virtua Cop 2 even had a police car chasing a van to a factory after a robbery! It is like an unofficial Robocop game!
I tried to play this game to review it about a year ago, and it seriously made me depressed. It's such a boring, drab game with literally nothing redeeming about it. I don't even know how you made it through this game. I would say the most exciting thing about the game, at least from the footage you have, is the dgVoodoo watermark that you left in. Also, I saw you mention Robocop vs the Terminator earlier in the video. That game looks surprisingly decent, which is weird because most of those movie licensed, or hell, American made games for the Genesis tend to be rubbish.
RoboCop the game certainly made a huge splash in the UK, the ZX spectrum version was number 1 in the charts for 18 months, it entered the charts in April 89 and was still at number 5 in 91.
It could be translated into proper FPS game, but not the one you expect. 'Walking tank' protagonist is rare trend in FPS genre, but none the less it happens from time to time - games where you need to chug up the damage you receive while blasting away everything with overpowered weapons and extremely limited controls. All while feeling badass. It's could be pulled off with proper effort, you just need to balance and offset clunky controls onto other gameplay mechanics.
I think Rogue City will turn out to be a better game, because they are adding more RPG-ish and immersive sim elements. Aside from current tech being a big improvement.
In terms of trying to implement Robocop's character into an FPS, the only thing I can think of would be to try and make the challenge come from somewhere other than enemy fire, but that would be a very slippery slope to keep it from getting frustrating.
I actually bought this "gem" on clearance at EB Games back in the day for Xbox. It was somewhat decent for a measly $5+change. I killed a weekend beating the game. Honestly... If this somehow manages to get on gog. I'd buy it again.
srlag11 The PC version of that game is nearly impossible to play. Sensitivity is whack, and the missions where you have to fly a ship are insanely difficult because of it. I didn't make it very far before I gave up. He'd be better off reviewing the console version.
The Amiga games were good too. The two first were platformers/shooters, but the third was in full 3D with both driving, flying and FPS. Pretty revolutionary at that time.
You're a brave man, GGmanlives. I can only get through the first level. The second level is hell (doesn't tell you where to go). One time I almost completed the second level and got killed near the end, but it took me hours to find the end of that level. I played the original Xbox version.
Oddly I saw the movie for the first time at about 8 or 9 as well... It was the edited-for-TV version, but what was weird was that while all the sweats were edited out they left all the gloriously graphic violence in... I loved it! Oh, and the Genesis version of Robocop Vs Terminator was one of my all time faces back in the day lol
I actually like Robocop 2 and think it's a pretty good sequel (although it has some major flaws and could've been a whole lot better). Prime Directives is a guilty pleasure of mine, though. Despite how much fans hate that series, I still think it had decent material in it, but was executed very poorly. Plus, I think it's a really good conclusion to the Robocop Franchise as a whole. How about a Robocop game which would be a remake of Robocop 3 with a better plot? that could work.
@Morningstar91939 it looks very very good, though I don't think of it as a replacement. It probably takes elements from 3 and "justifies" them (though you can't really make that movie good).
I see this game as part of that weird wave of licensed games that came out of nowhere, mostly on the PS2. Others include Home Alone, Beverly Hills Cop, Knight Rider, Reservoir Dogs and Miami Vice.
The game has even been released in the official Chinese version in mainland China. In the 90s when pirated software was popular, only some large companies would sell Chinese version of their games.
Just a tip, Sonny Jim - dgVoodoo has the option of removing its watermark. It wouldn't affect this game much, but it would games that have UI elements in the lower right.
at 0:51 you say that Robocop didnt make much impact in gaming, but in England the 1988 ZX Spectrum game made huge waves and was a best seller for years
YES! I played it on the Commodore Amiga 500 as a kid. It was an excellent game and was a critical success at the time :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RoboCop_(1988_video_game)
The original film is one of those awesome badass movies that EVERY child of the late 1980s and early 1990s ABSOLUTELY had to watch to qualify as cool. It's a requirement. And I first saw this when I was 5 years old AND owned the VHS to boot. FIVE YEARS OLD! Needless to say, I grew up to be a well-adjusted badass. Also saw Terminator 2 when I was SIX! On a bootleg, no less. And how was your childhood?
I had this game on PS2...so...sheeet...This game sucked so much for me. And...If we count the 2 Reais(Brazil currency).....I BOUTGH THAT FOR A FUCKING DOLLAR!
Titus also made the craptacular Superman for the n64... so yeah it's alright they were gone. I'm not saying the people deserve to lose their jobs.. im just saying, maybe game development isn't their thing.
Played the PC port some years ago, but never completed it. I actually liked some of the level design, it was quite diverse and atmospheric. What killed the game for me was the atrocious save system. Like Gggman said, you only can automatically save at the start of an episode. So you are forced to play whole level sets again and again when you die.
Dude I can relate in every way to your video except for the part about playing the game because I never got to. I had imagined, if I got the chance, how would I create my own ROBOCOP video game. I decided that it would be like BATMAN ARKHAM ORIGINS where there will be people hanging around with side missions to do and crimes in progress. It would be so fucken dope to do other stuff like walk into the police precinct, drive ROBO’s car and see it get bloom up by thugs as you are in it! It would also be great to have at least a semi original plot for the game. If not Peter Weller for the voice, then either animate his voice from previous lines in his movies or get a REALLY good impressionist! I also want ED-209s, Robocop‘s arm gun, his jet pack, posters of Delta city, some kind of mention about Kane, and the ability to have his look from the first film and the second film along with being able to have his visor/chin piece/neck piece removed. That would be the best game for ROBOCOP! (Must be as violent as films if not then more violent!)
Hey man, will you review Get Even? It looks really interesting and given that it's getting some contradicting reviews, I'd like to see your take on it!
I loved Robocop vs Terminator. I never played this, but it's probably just as well. I doubt they could afford to cast Weller or get the licence for the film soundtrack.
Could you try and review the PC version of Robocop 3 that was released in 1992? It's also a first person shooting game, and a pretty different kind at that.
You should try and get your hands on a game called Devastation, i played it when i was younger and loved it. I can't find it anywhere now tho and i would love to hear your take on it!
It looks and sounds like a mod for Goldeneye or Perfect Dark if such things could exist. Sonny Jim, what chance of a Heretic II review? I know there's at least one copy left on the planet and I can make it available if needs be
has gggmanlives reviewed No One Lives Forever??? also PAUL VERHOVEN films like Robocop/Starship Troopers are amazing!!!! love all the black comedy and social commentary
RoboCop, I like you buddy, we could use a guy like you over at the U.A.C. You're built tough , that's for damn sure... but honestly you're too slow buddy. Those Cyberdemons would have a field day with you. Just thought I should be straight with ya bud. There's always next year.
You reviewed a Titus game! Fantastic. Wait til you get to review their most amazing game ever, that is Superman for the N64. Don't forget about the PS1 gems like Evil Zone and Incredible Crisis, they are also worth mentioning.I played this game only because I was a huge sucker for Robocop during the early to mid 2000's, and I actually did like it somewhat at the time. But yeah, it's poor.
Its odd, while this game would not work as a straight up FPS, it COULD work with a system similar to V.A.T.S from fallout, slightly RPG style, as a computer takes milliseconds to make decisions and aim etc, so a pausing and deciding mechanic could work pretty well.
When you're talking about the difficulties of translating Robocop from film to game a question springs to mind. Why did it work for Robocop Vs Terminator and not this game?
Well RVT isn't based off a film for starters. But in that game you move pretty quickly and just run around gunning down bad guys. It's more fast paced and more violent.
Robocop vs Terminator, who would win ? As much as I love Robo, I think he would have a really bad day, considering how slow he moves. The Terminator is just as agile, or even more so, as a human probably, plus he has super strength.
I legit want to know how you got Robocop to work... I got this game on pc a while back and was unable to play as it gives a common error something to do with protection I think (been a while) and I got so fed up with the game not working at all, I bought it on the original xbox which I still haven't gotten round to playing it, but I'm really curious on how you got it to work. I have windows 7 service pack 1 64 bit.
The worst part is that this game cost $50 USD on launch. An online reviewer at the time refused to review this game, and instead suggested spending $50 dollars towards buying the Robocop DVD, a replica airsoft gun, and meatball sandwich.
Oh yeah. That was Alex Navarro from GameSpot.
The most legendary review I've ever seen. I think he went on to Giant Bomb? I don't think he's still there, but I wonder if he has a follow up with Rogue City.
The best Robocop game is Blood Dragon.
Even has the Auto-9 pistol and that Sniper Rifle that fires explosives.
I like it!
Blood Dragon deserved its own standalone franchise. Its literally the best of all the far cry games. Screw Far Cry 5 and its lame rehashed Far Cry 3 setting..
I don't get the hate for farcry 5.
How exactly is Montana a rehash of the tropical island in 3? They look nothing alike.
My mother completely ignored the R rating on Robo cop and let me watch it when I was 8 as well. Best Childhood ever.
Ah the good ol days when hero's solved all their problems with a big gun and a righteous sense of violence
good old days when i had nightmares after seeing a guy whos skin was burning off and then getting hit by a car and blasted into bloody mess
mr.shotgun Me also.
that's OK, I was able to watch silence of the lambs at 13. And for some reason, someone was always watching law and order 85% of the time when i was 10.
Apparently this was the first film I’d seen. The fact my mum got me this watch as a kid before Toy Story does make me question her mind at times.
ggmanlives uploads are like steam sales, they come around commonly, but you're always getting more bang than what you expected initially.
It's almost as if the game's budget was mostly spent on getting the robocop license than the actual game itself.
IIRC, I read an interview with one of the devs and this was literally what happened. Don't quote me, though.
Not really surprised with the quality of this game, given that it's done by the same people who did Superman 64.
At least Robocop not flying through rings in entire missions.
this game is clearly better than superman 64 by virtue of not being a kids' tv show tie-in
Nineball Seraph never say that....AGAIN
To be fair, Superman 64 was originally supposed to be at least marginally better but DC got involved with the creative process. The prototype of the game doesn't have Superman flying through hoops.
That explains. So much. :/
I'd buy that for a dollar~
~ha ha ha ha ha ~
No you wouldn't.
YouSoSpice yeah, he would
Fucking ~
And use it as a coaster 🍺😁👍
Those cave segments reminded me of Red Faction :S
Red Faction 1 is one of my favorite FPS games from PS2. The Best version to play theses days is on PS4 in the PS2 on PS4 section. This version is upscaled to 1080p and fully supports Trophies. The pc version on Steam has no such things.

Titus? The guys who made that god-awful Superman 64 game?
yep same company
They also made a very decent series of platformers - Prehistorik and couple of other arcade games in the early 90's. But everybody remember the worst one...
The Blues Brothers and Fire and Forget for example)
Crazy Cars also.
Nah Deus ex

Cut it with scopolamine, 5mls per............
Thank you...for not smoking.
You know, there is a Robocop FPS on PC that even pre-dates Doom! Look up 1992 Robocop 3 (AKA Robocop 3D) for DOS.
We need a new RoboCop FPS, with the violence of a Soldier of Fortune game.
Games^
Your prayers were answered. Couple weeks to go until the new game is out
Well, we have it here now
The best iteration of this character is in bro force
BROBOCOP
That and the arcade Robocop games.
Nah Mortal Kombat 11
Anybody else get a Perfect Dark feel from the gameplay? Not as good obviously.
the targeting system does seem very similar -- that's almost certainly what titus was going for
Not even in the slightest is this game remotely on par with Rare's masterpiece.
A Generic Name im getting more of a Judge Dredd vs Death vibe
The targeting and pistol noises are shared with goleneye and perfect dark
whaaaaaaaaat? a robocop GAME? i need to play!
1:45
No!
Just stick to whatever Ocean made for home computers
I came back to this review after watching your rouge city review and we finally got the Robocop game we deserve 😅
3:00 didn't age very well with the Rouge City demo being so good. I don't understand why someone would even think that.
It's hard to imagine it working without seeing it, especially then. Rogue City is fucking awesome though and shows how it can be done
he was stalking his widowed wife rather than ex wife
Rocksteady and IO Interactive could potentially make an FPS RoboCop game work. Look at Urban Chaos: Riot Response

Robocop 2 probably has one of the best intros for the main character in all of cinema
Honestly, that movie is pretty underrated.
Once you mentioned that it was made by Taitus, I knew that the game was going to be bad
a robocop pc game i didnt know that existed well done sonny jim
Apparently only released in the Pal regions on pc. In US, we onlyh got the game on the og Xbox. It was also on PS2 and GameCube lol.
Still waiting for you to review Killing Time. Yes, it's very obscure. It was on the 3DO and got a PC port. Might want to check it out.
SpeedySPCFan Actually it's based off the comics so technically it's not movie licensed
RoboCop the game certainly made a huge splash in the UK, the ZX spectrum version was number 1 in the charts for 18 months, it entered the charts in April 89 and was still at number 5 in 91.
Really weird. I just randomly started watching clips of the robocop films and then you come out with a review of the game...the stars have aligned!!
Thanks for suffering for our entertainment!
Revisited this review after beating Rogue City and I find it interesting what you suggested is exactly what they did in *that* game.
Took me over 2 minutes to realize this wasn’t a review of Rogue City. 🤦🏻♂️🤣

I would love to see a video of Heretic II, the third-person action sequel to the FPS Heretic.
I have this game for PS2, it´s not the best game ever but as a Robocop fan I liked it and finished it.
I Have The RoboCop Video Game on The PlayStation 2 and it's Awesome
This was the Superman 64 of First Person Shooters.
Titus Software is the same company who made this game and Superman 64 for the Nintendo 64.

That montage is proof that the Robocop theme can make ANYTHING look amazing.
Can we expect a 100k Let's Play with the man himself? Get a chance to see the master at work!
The game has even been released in the official Chinese version in mainland China. In the 90s when pirated software was popular, only some large companies would sell Chinese version of their games.
I can see dgvoodoo overlay. Was this wrapper needed to get the game running?
For me it was.
Thanks!
Just a tip, Sonny Jim - dgVoodoo has the option of removing its watermark. It wouldn't affect this game much, but it would games that have UI elements in the lower right.
Kinda with there was another Robocop vs Terminator game
or at least a doom mod of one
The theme music over the gameplay in the intro made it look truly epic. What a shame
That "it's Robocop!" vocal was amazing hahaha
at 0:51 you say that Robocop didnt make much impact in gaming, but in England the 1988 ZX Spectrum game made huge waves and was a best seller for years

YES! I played it on the Commodore Amiga 500 as a kid. It was an excellent game and was a critical success at the time :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RoboCop_(1988_video_game)
Looking forward to Rogue City coming out in November
I'd buy that for a dollar!!!
Still better than Superman 64
Peter Weller was suppose to return to Robocop recently for a new film ignoring Robocop 2 it said. check the imdb for him.
The original film is one of those awesome badass movies that EVERY child of the late 1980s and early 1990s ABSOLUTELY had to watch to qualify as cool. It's a requirement. And how was your childhood?
great intros gggman
3:30 - yeah yeah, thanks for reminding me about that movie. By the way, I love that actor.
I had this game on PS2...so...sheeet...This game sucked so much for me. And...If we count the 2 Reais(Brazil currency).....I BOUTGH THAT FOR A FUCKING DOLLAR!
Brazilians are like vegans, they have to tell everybody they're brazilian xD
did I tell you I'm Brazzers?
It's like they set you on fire but you're sitting down? Or they make you sit down on a fire...
he just explain the currency, for fuck sake.
"Negroid mongrel"
How are you using the internet? I thought it was invented long after the 50's. Stupid racist.
The Broken Pixels video review of this game is one of the funniest things I've ever seen
I remember playing this game once at a Internet cafe. Back when those places were still around.
Ggg can you review Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield? plz...
Robocop saying "oh yeah"? He must been wrong wired again and spewing nonsense
always so hyped on a new review, love these low key games :D
What? Titus, those twats behind Superman 64 ending on a high note? Ya serious?!
The green hud is so appealing to look at
It’s like fallout mixed with terminator vision
Like those kind of early 2000's smooth textures
Robocop (the original one) still is one of my favorite movies, but I couldn't imagine that this game existed.
Looks like I wasn't missing too much.
The Robocop game by Ocean had some great original music, and it's a game people seem to like a lot.
7:39 Holy shit, that's the bowling alley dude from Daredevil. That guy has great taste in heroes to fuck with.
Titus also made the craptacular Superman for the n64... so yeah it's alright they were gone. I'm not saying the people deserve to lose their jobs.. im just saying, maybe game development isn't their thing.

Hey man, will you review Get Even? It looks really interesting and given that it's getting some contradicting reviews, I'd like to see your take on it!
Hey Gggmanlives, do you think you could review either Chrome:Spec Force or Killzone? Thanks in advance
@gmanlives i have a question:
What do you mean that games uses a stock sound effect?
Never heard it before someone uses that term in a video game.
Up until 1:24, I thought it looked okay, the HUD really suits the IP and the medium of video games.
Why do I love watching reviews for old bad games I will never ever play???? WHYYYYY??????
You should try and get your hands on a game called Devastation, i played it when i was younger and loved it.

Maybe I'm crazy but I like the visual style, the enemies being highlighted just feels very proper for Robocop.
has gggmanlives reviewed No One Lives Forever???
also PAUL VERHOVEN films like Robocop/Starship Troopers are amazing!!!! love all the black comedy and social commentary
Yes I have, 4 years ago.
RoboCop, I like you buddy, we could use a guy like you over at the U.A.C. You're built tough , that's for damn sure... but honestly you're too slow buddy. Those Cyberdemons would have a field day with you. Just thought I should be straight with ya bud. There's always next year.

u havin' a giggle there m8?
will you review Duke Nukem Forever's expantion/DLC at some point?
The new one looks sick
When you're talking about the difficulties of translating Robocop from film to game a question springs to mind. Why did it work for Robocop Vs Terminator and not this game?
Well RVT isn't based off a film for starters. But in that game you move pretty quickly and just run around gunning down bad guys. It's more fast paced and more violent.
I just finished your Fallout 3 review when the notification show up...
Robocop vs Terminator, who would win ? As much as I love Robo, I think he would have a really bad day, considering how slow he moves. The Terminator is just as agile, or even more so, as a human probably, plus he has super strength.
Do you do your own intros? They rock!
*Dead or alive you're coming with me*
I legit want to know how you got Robocop to work...
