    "If it had a manual transmission I'd buy it, since it doesn't, I'd say lease it". The Xterra comes in both 5-speed automatic as well as a 6-speed manual. Also, I'm surprised you guys didn't mention any of the features the Pro4X comes with like a locking rear diff and the hill descent control. In fact, you didnt talk about ANY of the features of this rig.

      It's cringe. They didn't talk about the factory 1" lift or the Bilstein shocks. Like you said they didn't mention the locking rear diff or hill descent. They didn't show 10% of what this vehicle is capable of.

      Like most of us Americans, the only Nissans that they know about are a 370Z or GT-R...It would shock a lot of USA off road boys to learn that oversea, the Nissan Patrol is second ONLY to the Land Cruiser in ability and numbers, and actually outperforms the LC in the desert!!!...There are more than just Jeeps out there guys....

    • @DRTMaverick
      @DRTMaverick 4 года назад +1

      @@freedomrider266 Yeah and in the states the Xterra is the FJ Cruiser's competition. I'd love patrols here, but I'd also love if you guys had Xterras there, I think the Navara guys would appreciate them at least.
      My xterra currently has a Nissan Titan front IFS suspension and diff swapped in. live.staticflickr.com/65535/50212511237_90fa78031b_h.jpg

    Did anyone else notice how he checked the coin at 6:57, then casually dropped it to get another shot at landing on "heads"? My guess is it was on "tails" when he checked his wrist. We used do do that in elementary school if the coin toss didn't go our way.

    Thanks a lot! Yes, please - give me some ideas! There is one thing: we use this trail (the Left Hand Canyon ORV trail) because it is our measuring stick for "basic" off road driving. Sure, we could go and do serious boulder-bashing, but that would take us away from a trail we can ascertain the basic characteristics of the vehicle at hand. We use the same location because we know it and know the various levels of ability needed for each vehicle. Still, I'm always game for a new ORV trail. Thanks!

    There is a local group in SW Missouri, they really test these! I like the review, and always watch your reviews. I was real close to having my wife buy one of these as her vehicle. Instead we purchased a highlander, and am impressed. I saw the SW Missouri group do some trails in their area, and ever since then, I wanted one. Power windows, locks, and that much power!

    4 actual doors for starters, and its one of the best priced truck based SUV's on the market for what you get! and definitely not underpowered. The VQ40 has plenty of power for the size of the Xterra.

    Thanks for reviewing this vehicle. Your Moab review first turned my attention to this 4WD and I am really excited to hear your thoughts during tomorrows on-road review. I've been looking at buying a 4WD for a while and the Xterra PRO-4X seems to the favorite. The other two in this field (FJ and Jeep Wrangler) are good but each have some limitations/drawbacks. Love both the channels. Thanks!!!!!

    Jeeps have had 4 cylinder engines over the years, but none that were Fords. Over the years they did use some GM and even Audi 4 cylinders and even a Renault 4 cylinder diesel, but no Pinto motors. Not that it would have been a bad thing. The Ford 2.3 was a good engine and is still in widespread use in various motorsports classes across the country.

    People that dismiss this Xterra favoring the FJ I think they over simplify life. This Xterra is way more comfortable in long journeys and in city. It drives almost like a sedan, in my opinion. This is a no nonsense car. It got all you want to have in a car, and yes, it can go off road as any unmodified jeep wrangler. The only complaint is the fuel MPG... bad. All Nissan cars have bad MPG. And yes, they are not pretty. But yes, they are comfortable compared to Toyotas.

  • @wsc31

    I am not an off-road guy, unless you count the driveway, but it sounds like a diesel with its good low end grunt would be the best choice for off-roading, esp. for the low speed rock hopping.

  • @NathanDAdlen
    @NathanDAdlen 11 лет назад

    Thanks man. I always base my rating(s) on the vehicle at hand. So, if this very model had a manual, I would give it a "Buy It!" Thanks for watching and we'll have the on-road, full review up in a few days!

  • @MrNicholg
    @MrNicholg 11 лет назад

    Not mentioned in the review, the 4.0 is a stroked version of the 3.5L, and it's got a low range transfer case. That combo typically works well for both on-road and off-road without being a tractor on the road. Still, a modern diesel might be nice. They are always heavy and expensive though.

    yes video doesn't show off road too well, but nothing i saw required 4 wheel drive in that rig. maybe that last section of video with a 15+ degree incline. wouldn't say that it keeps up with a wrangler with just a new front bumper. i say this owning a 12 pro-4x 6 speed. good call on mud flaps. i ruined one of mine the same way they almost ruined one. I do love these reviews. the pro-4x vs X and S road handle very differently so if you get the chance to compare on your next video, you should.

    Nathan, I have owned a total 4 Xterras (own an Xterra S now) from 2008-2012. I lived in Colorado for over 13 years and wheeled just about everywhere it could go. But I couldn't quite recognize the trail you guys were on, But it was too simple to properly test the Xterra Pro 4X. I could give you ideas on trails in the Woodland Park, CO area that would truly test the capability of the Pro 4X, including having to engage the locker, without risking any damage. If you are interested, let me know.

    These vehicles are great. As Marcusd says - they are comfortable as well. If you want to improve the fuel mileage, add a intake filter such as a K & N or AEM plus a Gibson Cat-back exhaust; you'll gain about 2 mpg. I have done it.
