I think i finally see a purprose for engineering system design from college now. It doesn't necessarily apply as much to my current job but finding the ways to make all these check, if then, loops for each element to communicate to each other. This was a really well put together video and easy to understand!

I watch a lot of engineering channels and was brought here via Coasterdad. Your base content is really really good but you need longer videos. The main reason people like me watch channels like yourself is because we are geeks to problem solving and fabricating. You don't need action packed content with clipped sections and music overlay, just a good old fashioned handheld camera with someone building a piece of track, assembling a dolly or any old part of the general manufacturing is our food. Feed us that content in way where people are just people and we lap it up.
Watching your catalogue back and you could have made 10's of 30mins video's about the little things. Keep up the good work and remember - your audience is people just like you. Give them what you like :)

truely a masterpiece of work for that launch. does the ride have 2 trains, or able to support 2 trains with the ride system?
The attraction had two ride vehicles fabricated, but it could have run more. We had four block points, station, lift hill, launch, pre-station.
1.3g's is pretty good for a rollercoaster in someones garden
What schedule was the 6" PVC cylinder, and what was your maximum pressure?
We used schedule 40 PVC on the 6” pipe. We capped pressure at 128 psi.

What if the brake was still on and it launched?
This is a great question! Because the brake is part of the circuit which initiates the launch, it physically cannot launch without the break pad lowering and completing the circuit.
Now, if we were somehow able to manually launch it while keeping the brake up, I posit two things would happen; 1) the piston would initially encounter additional resistance resulting in significant air loss around the gasket which would reduce the overall force of the push and 2) the force from the piston would be enough to push the kart through the brake as the brake is only meant to stop the kart initially and hold it in place prior to launch. It would not have enough speed to clear the hill and would fall back into the launch cave. The piston would act as an air brake cushioning the impact of the kart and bringing it to a stop.

So have you ever thought about trying a I beam for Track similar to Rmc, i’ve always wanted to try it myself but I think it’s too expensive for me, but you could do so much crazy stuff with it, like never before seen elements like an heartline roll with a airtime hill in the middle, or crazy stalls, and wave turns
Would love to do the RMC styled track. The trick would be figuring out a jig to roll the steel. Pipe rollers are easy enough since rolling pipe is so common. Rolling an I-beam seems a bit more unconventional, but could be worth it for executing some of the more exhilarating moves.

Hello! What sensors do you use? And how do you program your system?
We use a variety of sensors, but primarily proximity switches which we purchase from automation direct. The software is from automation directs Productivity Suite and we use their C-More micro software
Did you buy a cylinder or make one? I am wondering because I am building my own

I really wanna make one but I’m also not that smart to build this and I don’t really have proper tools. So I gotta find a way to make a simpler, cheaper version. Any ideas?
I’d definitely start out figuring out the goals of what you want to make. So if it’s a coaster, what elements do you want. Break those apart, and attack each problem trying to figure how to accomplish the goal. I would start off small, researching and developing your idea and bringing it into fruition. If you want to build a launch, I’d recommend figuring out how your coaster will run the track first and going from there. Hope that helps.

How does the system deal with a rollback of the cart?
Great question! We have an anti-rollback dog on the kart and then antiroll back slats on the lift hill.
And yes, it did fail once and work.
@@Magictecture Thank you for your quick answer, but what about a rollback after the launch? When the cart for some reason doesn’t make it up the hill after the launch?
@@davetv6802 ah, yes, another great question. There is no anti roll back after the launch hill. Reason; the piston acts as a natural air brake. This worked surprisingly well. And yes, this was tested and actually happened to a rider. The doors closing and launch reset will not occur until we’ll after the kart is beyond this point.

There is a large desire for us to do space mountain! We’ll see what the future holds.
What model PLC was used?
We went through automation direct. The touchscreen we used was C-more Micro EA3 series HMI, 3in monochrome STN LCD, 128 x 64 pixel, LED backlight, supports (1) serial port.
@@Magictecture thanks! What was the model of PLC running it? Was it one of their CLICK series PLCs?
@@calrustad5746 Yes, the C-more is a click through. It has a small screen and 5 buttons.
Productivity1000 PLC from AutomationDirect. We had considered the click PLC originally, but I determined that the P1000 was not much more and brought a lot more functionality that we very much used.
