It wouldn't change how fast Red Bulls pulled away from everyone else. Sure the drs zones will help the battles in the middle of the pack, but up front it wouldn't impact it all. There's an underlying problem with the new car designs and regulations that is preventing teams being competitive at the top.

In retrospect it now looks like it would have been better if floor ride height wasn't the first thing people thought about as a solution for porpoising. Something like suspension changes could work a bit better.
Ironic to that is that the team that was most vocal about raising ride height hasn't even improved as much and if anything it feels like the regulation changes even helped their competitor even more and now another team also leapfrogged them.
Don't get me wrong porpoising is the last thing this sport needs but had anyone knew this was gonna happen people would be more hesitant about simply raising ride height when the regulations revolved around the floor.

    • @lorenzorubino2195

The best way to stop porpoising is to change the ride heights, at least with the current rules. To allow low ride heights all the cars should be equipped with a standard (same for everybody) active suspensions that increases the ride heights in the straights, to limit the vertical movement. Something that the teams shouldn't be allowed to directly control, but still doesn't penalise the ones that don't have porpoising (if the ride heights are increased only at a given amount of vertical movement).

The fundamental problem with F1 compared to other motor racing series is it can't work out what it wants to be.
Series like Formula E, Indy Car, as well as Formula 2/3 are driver orientated series. They are meant to be focused around who the best driver is, as a result the cars are (mostly) all on a level playing field and are (mostly) identical.
Series like the World Endurance Championship or the World Rally Championship are constructor focused, focused on which constructor can build the best car.
F1 advertises itself as a Drivers series, but it runs itself like a Constructors focused series, despite the fact that we have been told that the Driver's Championship is the important title and is the title the teams care more about winning. Its madness.
F1 needs to decide whether it continues to be about finding the best driver, or the best team/constructor. Because if its about finding the best driver then the sport needs to be changed.

Gap wasn't even closer instead actually bigger (and then the V6 turbo hybrid, the most reliable engine in F1 IMO,that means lesser unpredictability), lack of horsepower wasn't the problem.Car weight and aerodynamic is THE biggest problem.Older days when they have rules changes, still 1 team dominating but at least racing was good, nowadays is not and thank god I watch 6 hours of Spa instead of Baku GP(when my friend told me to watch and he regret it)

    • @sthijs0

No they should lower up the floor again like last year. Because the height of the cars were changed to solve porpoising. But because of this, the teams now have more tiny wings and gaps on the floor and the body of the car. These wings and gaps causes dirty air and that causes following issues. In fact most teams actually solved the porpoising issue last year without the regulation change for 2023 so these new regulations were not needed. Going back to last year's regulations should solve a lot!

Money lol. Also why do you think the new format was introduced for Baku, thinking it would bring excitement in race day as well. Many factors why the race was boring and less overtakes.
FIA removed 2 practice sessions so drivers didn’t get a chance to get proper data on race pace and the hard tires. Also an early pit stop forced everyone to change to hard and teams wanted them to last the whole race so they can avoid a 2nd pit stop, hoping another safety car would happen but it didn’t. So drivers were forced to manage their tires instead of pushing. Also if you notice the drivers were pretty close to each other, so when 1 driver used drs, the front driver had drs as well so it makes it harder to gain that momentum when everyone’s in drs range and can’t get the pass. But mainly the blame issue was drivers had to manage their tires and teams were hoping for a 2nd safety and it just never happened.
Every race isn’t suppose to be exciting as we would like, sometimes you get these awkward boring races that wasn’t anticipated.

The new aerodynamics are producing closer wheel to wheel racing overall though, just look at Austria this year or Silverstone last year with the “through goes Hamilton” and others. Baku is a bad example as it’s a lot of straights and stop start zones, where DRS is less effective due to the new aerodynamics. DRS zones need to be adjusted to give a fair chance without making it too easy, although that’s no simple task.
Do agree that it’s not ideal having RB out front, but eliminate them from the equation right now and it would be an absolutely thrilling championship fight between AM, Ferrari and Mercedes, where their performance varies from track to track.

I often watch GT racing (GT3 in particular), where every car is completely different. The regulations are very loose so you have front, mid and rear engined cars. You have some V6's, V8's, V10's etc. and the racing can be so tight that the winner is decided on the last lap of a 24h race. Meanwhile in F1 the performance differences between the cars are so insanely huge even with such strict regulations. It's just ridiculous. So I feel like the FIA needs to give teams more freedom, so they have more areas where they could make up for some of the compromises they've mad with other stuff. F1 used to be all about innovation, but nowadays if someone comes up with a cool and innovative solution to a certain problem everyone else just protests it and it gets outlawed within a week. Teams just don't have any real chances of improving their car if they got off to a poor start in development.

ever notice we didn’t have the problems with the lower downforce and lighter cars of the 2010’s

Going back, and slower than ever. At least in sub 2021, they were fast.

They always change things just as the front teams lost its advantage and the diminishing returns on spending has the whole field closing up... They are changing things again in 2026 when we probably will have someone catching RB lol

It always helps one team now matter how you change the regulation unless everyone has equal machines.

They need to stop modifying every circuit. They shorten the DRS sector in Bahrain, changed Saudi's layout on some turns, they added a 4th DRS sector in Melbourne and now shortening the DRS sector on the long straight. Literally every circuit has been changed in some form.

Imagine the technical directive had been omitted and teams who were porpoising had just raised their floors to compensate and then start copying the Red Bull ANYWAY?
