  • While they share dairy in common, milk allergy and lactose intolerance are two separate health conditions that affect people differently. Next up on 'Food for Thought,' Heather Brooker breaks down the key differences between this allergen and intolerance, including the body’s response, food labeling, and education for children.

I was wondering why lactaid and lactose free milk never worked for me. I also throw up when I eat too much milk. I developed a fever and couldn’t even open my eyes on my birthday last year bc I ate so much ice cream. Now I think I’m allergic.

And keep in mind they can be misdiagnosed. I was diagnosed with a milk allergy, then had a lot of success with lactose intolerance probiotic pills which should not have worked if I was actually allergic to milk.

Did you do an at office oral challenge test and food allergy blood test IgE panel. Last year, I was diagnosed with true food allergy and I have severe food allergy. Since 2009 I have mild milk allergy because everything I eat with dairy I would vomiting, sneezing, and itchy eyes. Last year it became severe and end up going to ER

Got allergy testing panel done. Find out I'm allergic to cow milk cheddar cheese and yogurt but not to curd. Why is that?

I am on a similar journey of discovery to you, and my information is far from complete atm. However it might be helpful for you to explore more closely the difference between whey protein allergy and casein protein allergy. For example I am reacting to ricotta cheese but seem to be ok with some (most?) hard cheeses and baked foods with dairy such as custard or quiche. Information so far suggests that I may be allergic to whey protein and possibly ok with casein protein and lactose.

Am I the only one who throws up terribly after consuming dairy?
I had Mayo today after reading the product info( Ddnt see anything that said lactose or Dairy)
30 mins later im throwing up and the aftermath is intense cramps and bloating...
Not sure if its just lactose intolerance, cause I don't see anyone in the comment section sharing my symptoms
    R.I.P

My son throws up every time he eats dairy, we are waiting for test results, but I am 100% sure it is lactose intolerance.

Are you sure it's not an egg allergy or something? Mayo never has milk in it; it's supposed to be egg, oil, acid, (and sometimes herbs or spices), and then some stabilizing ingredients if you're getting it store bought.

Mayo has no dairy, you may have an allergy to eggs or an oil.

Well, I'm both lactose intolerant and am allergic to milk. I use coconut milk and other coconut based products, but I haven't found a great-tasting substitute for cheese. Am allergic to soy also. Can you recommend one?

Walmart has a plant base cheese that taste good. It don't taste good melted though

@@prioleau2012 I've tried the So Delicious and the Daiya brands of plant-based cheeses. The So Delicious brand tasted funky, but the Daiya brand tasted a lot like real cheese, but upset my stomach because its made from chickpeas. My sister-in-law said that she accidently picked up the Best Choice brand of faux shredded cheese. She said it tasted funky too, but melted okay. I've also tried a recipe for oat based vegan cheese. One bite and I threw it out. The thing I miss most is pizza. I also eat gluten-free and can't do tomatoes either, but have found a nomato sauce recipe that I've used for pasta. Just can't find a decent cheese substitute. sigh! Thank you for trying to help.

Nutritional yeast. Great cheesy flavour and fantastic source of B vitamins. I use it by sprinkling into scrambled eggs, using instead of Parmesan on pasta, sprinkling into salads. Healthy replacement for table salt. It’s not a substitute for cheese slices or cubes though.

@@lyrical-feline I have finally found two brands of faux cheese that I like the taste of - Violife Cheese shreds and Follow My Heart, both sold by Walmart. I’ve used the Udi’s gluten free pizza crust, top with either the nomato sauce or plain olive oil, then chopped mushrooms and black olives and the cheese shreds. Pretty good, if I say so myself! Thanks for your help.
