Remember.... large ships tend to stay in open water.... so you have to completely expose yourself in open water in order to get close enough to drop a torpedo. In that time, the AI gunner on ships will have spotted you 4km out. While that fighter on your six is 2km out, tearing you to shreds, because your gunners wont engage until 0.2km out. So it's either get ripped apart by AA from ships, because your gunners wont do anything about the fighter behind you or get ripped apart by a plane because you're trying to dodge AA from ships.

The Germans had their Torpedo-Kommandogerät, a device that could be used to input target's speed and angle, and then the torpedo could be dropped directly towards the target and the torpedo would automatically turn to intercept the target. If you set the parametres in correctly and the enemy ship continued on course, the torpedo would hit the target. The Italians had the pattern-running Motobomba FFF torpedoes, and the Allies had some parachute-equipped torpedoes which could be dropped from significant altitude and with very high airspeed, since the parachute would slow the torpedo to space speed for water entry.

@@Avus95 depends on bomb type and size, but 400km/h is a good speed to bounce. More important is the height and angle your plane is at. A level plane at 20m above sea level or lower is ideal.
It’d be nice if, for torpedo and naval bombers, you got to spawn in command of a wing of three planes, the other two being AI, so that you wouldn’t just be shredded instantly and would actually have a chance of a successful torpedo run.

I think the most feasible would be the Ju-87 Torpedo Bomber variants made for the incomplete Graf Zeppelin. The FW-190 would have too much of an offensive armament for a bomber. The Ju-88 could work but it's just another twin-engine Torpedo Bombers which Germany has two of already.
That's why i love FW-190s. They can do almost everything. They have really good cannons, they can be equiped with 210mm rockers, bombs (from 50kg ones to a 1000kg one) and they can be used as normal fighters, most planes can't do all of this.

Coordinate with your team mates?! I’m sorry gaijin but the only teamwork present in naval forces is that of destroyers against other destroyers. Light cruisers and patrol boats just rush in and pepper spray the enemy with fire till they die and trying to get a random friendly player, be it a ship or aircraft, to distract an enemy player whilst you try to line up for a torpedo run on said player??! Yeah good luck with that.
One of the best sensation I have in this game is when I fly in my he 111 at 3 meters, avoiding AA fire and drop my torpedoe before pass over the ennemy destroyer who explode a few seconds later

I feel these planes need a buff. From RB experience, my soviet IL-4 can get 2 kills easily using the 2x500 and 1x1000kg loadout but really struggles with using it's torpedo. Even when the torpedo hits it doesn't guarantee the kill whereas I haven't had a single bomb strike not kill a destroyer in the il-4. Not to mention all torpedos are hard to aim so you HAVE to get close to score a hit. Since ships already get a torpedo aiming indicator in RB, aircraft should get the same.
Will italy get any additional CAS aircraft for when the italian tanks come out? They are lacking quite a bit, with only the SM79's being a valid option
Launching a torpedo at a ship that just released its smoke cloud is a good cover for lineing up you're shot from longer distances because by the time the cloud dissipates your right on top of them ready to release the torpedo then fly through the smoke over top of them then turn back with your rear camera to look at your handy work, i love that part

Another thing that is very rewarding is when you use a SBD 3 Dauntless dive bomber the correct way; diving from roughly 10,000ft and scoring a direct hit on the torpedo tubes on destroyers, then using the smaller bombs to finish off PT boats
The sad reality is naval forces are barely in air RB now, making torpedo craft nearly useless. Also, anti-ship missiles when, Gaijin? We have the planes to use them!

I will rarely use Torpedoes but when I do I make sure I'm a total of Two and a Half km away from my target add an altitude of no higher than 1,000 ft.I also make sure I have enough energy to pull up and away usually banking left or right if there is an enemy fighter ready to intercept me.
Torpedo bombers are only a threat as long as you don't aim your MGs at them. With target tracking even in RB, shooting down incoming planes is easier than ever before.
tip face your bow to the torpedo so you can doge it better and it depends of the armor of your ship and if your a torpedo bomber do zig zags and drop those fishes make sure not to target heavily armored ones too like battleships

One of my war thunder stories is: I was once a torpedo plane flying over a POWERFUL enemy. When the person fired at me I tried to get out, but I could not. So I went underwater for like a second and came out and managed to dodge a lot of gunfire. Idk if it was a glitch that I went under the water or what. But I still won. And I had one piece of my wing blown off... And used my tail gun to gun down the ship. And then went in for a torpedo attack. I flew real close and then dropped it and juked the ship VERY hard.
Heres the thing; in a hellcat with 1 torp, I can get 1 enemy. In a hellcat with 2 bombs and 8 rockets, I can (and often do) get 3; 1 per bomb and an extra with the rockets.
The Torpedo is similar to a ballistic missiles that travel in the sea waters beneath by a rocket engine that can hit Naval battle ships or submarines .
the worst torpedo bomber is the italian G.55S you have to be at about 300km/h to drop the torpedo without it drowning, which is at the point where you can barely stay in the air without stalling
Guide needs an update, spawned in tdive bomber 6km from battlefield at bomber height. Moved close by 2km and raised altitude by another km and got shot down by bofors.... From a ship that was 4km - 4.5 km away.... And dont even get me started on how many times i have been nailed by lazer accurate fire by heavy cruiser main guns that the opposing player set to shoot at me 6km away or more while he was using his secondaries on a little pt boat.

Teamwork is a big IF in any match. You have to find a competent wingman and squad up long beforehand.

F6Fs weren't designed with torpedo bombing as even a secondary mission. It was briefly tested for the role late in the war, but nothing came of it.

@@TheGunningPony Because Germany really doesnt have many options for Torpedo bombers. Plus since its a 190 it has maneuverability on its side compared to a HE-111 or a DO-217

More FW-190 variants would be cool. 8 (non premium) is not enough. I love FW-190s.
I will rarely use Torpedoes but when I do I make sure I'm a total of Two and a Half km away from my target add an altitude of no higher than 1,000 ft.I also make sure I have enough energy to pull up and away usually banking left or right if there is an enemy fighter ready to intercept me.

Torpedo bombers are only a threat as long as you don't aim your MGs at them. With target tracking even in RB, shooting down incoming planes is easier than ever before.

Its funny cuz the Ventura handles like a heavy fighter more than a bomber. Its speed and maneuverability is ridiculously good..

They were really Good in Simulator Battle tough. Cause its much easier to hit with them when your in Cockpit mode.
tip face your bow to the torpedo so you can doge it better and it depends of the armor of your ship and if your a torpedo bomber do zig zags and drop those fishes make sure not to target heavily armored ones too like battleships

i get to an high altitude then when in reach of an destroyer i dive down but behind an island then go around and do it quickly then make an hard u turn and boom you got an Torpedo bombers dream

hopefully with naval out we can get japans proper model 7 torpedoes instead of just the pre and early war model 2s and 3s
One of my war thunder stories is: I was once a torpedo plane flying over a POWERFUL enemy. When the person fired at me I tried to get out, but I could not. So I went underwater for like a second and came out and managed to dodge a lot of gunfire. Idk if it was a glitch that I went under the water or what. But I still won. And I had one piece of my wing blown off... And used my tail gun to gun down the ship. And then went in for a torpedo attack. I flew real close and then dropped it and juked the ship VERY hard.

Heres the thing; in a hellcat with 1 torp, I can get 1 enemy. In a hellcat with 2 bombs and 8 rockets, I can (and often do) get 3; 1 per bomb and an extra with the rockets.

the worst torpedo bomber is the italian G.55S
you have to be at about 300km/h to drop the torpedo without it drowning, which is at the point where you can barely stay in the air without stalling
Guide needs an update, spawned in tdive bomber 6km from battlefield at bomber height. Moved close by 2km and raised altitude by another km and got shot down by bofors.... From a ship that was 4km - 4.5 km away.... And dont even get me started on how many times i have been nailed by lazer accurate fire by heavy cruiser main guns that the opposing player set to shoot at me 6km away or more while he was using his secondaries on a little pt boat.
in arcade battles if you get to close when the torpedo hits the enemy, your plane will explode so be very careful

Just started out with torp bombers,aiming is very difficult thus far especially when most of my targets are submarine chasers and motor gun boats.
