That explains why a recent attempt to do a spot blend wasn't perfect.
I dropped the pressure to reduce the overspray and was scratching my head over the results.
Thanks Mario for demonstrating and explaining this technique.
Iβm here to help my friend πͺ
Its true Mario. Customer is always right π . If the bumper color doesn't match from new car they are usually ok with it. Sometimes its a headache for painter if you are repainting the bumper whether you need to follow the color of the quarter panel or follow the factory bumper color is doesn't match. Even doing blend and the color match the quarter, the customer even complained why the bumper matches the quarter when initial the bumper color not match. Thats what the customer want. π
Lmao the exciting tales of painting some you win some you looseππ

Mario!!!! Are you sure you arenβt a magician???? Cβmon now, I love your channel and remind me of my Jamaican friend here in the Bronx/ Mt Vernon who is a great body guy!
Thank you! Just the tricks of the tradeπͺ
And you are correct that plastic and metal parts never match. I worked at an automotive factory for 13 years. I spent about 11 in the paint dept. and 2 years in quality. Certain colors would come down the line and the bumpers, mirrors and other plastic parts wouldn't match. From the factory, customers usually don't pay attention to that. If they know you painted their bumper, that'll be the first thing they would look at. I remember seeing a brand new Cadillac at a fast food restaurant a while back. It was a pearl white. The bumpers were way darker than the car.
Marcus so you saw it first hand . Itβs frustrating, but we are the professionals just have to handle our business.
@@mariopaintclass6091 Yes I did. Then another thing that made the colors be off is that all the plastic parts were painted in different plants. Different batches of paint
Bumpers are not painted at the same facility. Plastic bumpers not matching because of the substrate is a misnomer, your not painting on plastic your painting on primer.
@@976charlie9 what is the primer on?
Class dismissed MARIO lovely colour that you done a cracking job there MARIO ππ

Great job Mario ππ½
Thank you!
I've painted bumpers on trying to keep the color and metallics as consistent as possible and the color still doesn't match most of the time. Now I paint them off just keeping my pressure and passes consistent to how I paint the body of the vehicle.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts π
Thank you for the explanation. And does it also apply to pearl by using this technique?
@@Jopakilo No problem. With pear the more pearl coat you apply the darker it gets.
The lower color looks like a better match to me also.
Thanks π
What psi you use for this gun to spray clear coat in the video???
18 to 21 PSI
very interesting video... check your title though, it has a typo... should read pressure
@@WJHandyDad thanks
does this only apply to flakes?
Since solid colors dont have metallic this wouldnt apply?
Yes this works better with metallic colors
how often do you tint the color to match? or do you use this technique most of the time to get it darker or lighter? I waste alot of time trying to retint the color
I do this most of the time with metallic. However on white pearl I always tint .
@@mariopaintclass6091 whats the easiest way to tint white paints that you can explain? I am having trouble with nissan/honda tricoats..
