  • How to change the oil on a 2nd gen Mazda CX-9 2016+. Vehicle in video is a 2019 Grand Touring. Procedure will be the same or very similar for the current generation of 2.5l turbo Mazda CX5 and Mazda CX9.

    Great video! Good camera work and lighting. I agree with Bob that your oil filter wasn't tight enough. Most oil filter makers recommend turning by hand until the gasket makes contact then give it a 3/4 turn. After installing the drain plug and filter I install the oil and let the engine idle BEFORE reinstalling the access panel. That way I check for leaks while the engine is running. Finally, get some car ramps! Much faster and safer than jack stands.

      Good call on checking for leaks, I'll have to start doing that! I could have demonstrated the tightness better, 3/4 turn is probably more realistic. I have had to deal with filters that were overtightened before, and that is no fun.

    Great video thanks. I’m due for my 2020 cx9 oils change at $6k miles which I’ll hit by Labor Day. You saved me $135 + tax for an oil change at the dealer which is crazy!
