Your low oil light will turn on right before the oil level reaches the lower dot on the dipstick. Its the same oil light you mentioned it the video. Great video👍
Thanks for the video. I changed my oil for the first time yesterday and it was a breeze since I watched your video.
Good Video! One thing you may have missed it to Reset the Oil Maintenance warning light.
I would STRONGLY recommend that you use the Mazda specified oil filter for the CX-9. It is BRAND NEW and only used for this vehicle. Part number is PY8W-14-302. It's not even used on the other Skyactiv engines.
Fram…..smh
Why would this matter? Why not use any quality oil filter?
@@BryanEaton
It likely doesn't matter but if it's redesigned, it's likely improved.
Superseded part number is 1WPY-14-302. The older made in Japan versions are hard to come by. The new ones are made it Thailand but still appear to be high quality.
Great video.
That filter is quite common and is also the same one used for many years of Hondas and Nissans. Those damn plastic clips will break over time like all of the others.
Great video, well explained!
The only thing I could add is that to ALWAYS use Jack Stands if you are going underneath a vehicle. Please do not rely on any kind of jack to keep the vehicle held up. The jack is there to only raise the car up.
Also, according to the CX-9 user manual, there is indeed a jacking point for the front, and also the rear of the car. Refer to this diagram: drive.google.com/file/d/1A1X9CtvbCFFDJrsK-VX1au7DbU1rTxrc/view?usp=sharing
Thanks for the info!
Great video. Thanks. I’ll reiterate though… never ever get under a car unless you are using jack stands or tire ramps. Again, great video!
Love how easy Mazda made it! Easy oil change, easy air filter, cabin filter. Haven't researched transfer case yet but we'll see....
Use car ramps instead of the jacks but great video, thanks!!
I just got a mazda cx-9 and I have ordered the oem mazda oil filter from amazon $11.47. I will use 5w 30 valvoline full synthetic as my oil of choice ...Wal-Mart $22.50 5 quart jug
Thank you for posting this video! question, if you unplug the dip stick or the fill cap, will it make the oil drain easier?
great video
for mazda cx9 2007 it's working to?
Great Video 👍🏻
Had a 2017 Signature for test drive awesome vehicle thinking about buying. I'm going to use Amsoil Signature Series and filter it's good for 25,000 miles or one year. Have 8 quarts of 5W/20 going to use it instead of 5W/30 they call for. Great video
How do you think using a totally different weight than what the engine is designed for is acceptable? 20 weight may be too thin for the engine.
DD M i
You better use 0w40 castrol than watery 0w20....
no such thing as an oil filter that will go for a year
O
Usually turbocharged engines recommend 30 weight oil due to running at increased heat. However, my recommendation would be to use a low volatility oil like Amsoil or Pennzoil Ultra Platinum with any GDI engine and especially with a turbo.
Hey man thank you for the video. Ive Mazda CX9 GT type and I am thinking of replacing the upper grill with the Signature LED grill. Iam wondering if you can help me if there is a need to cut wires in order to connect the led to power source or if there is a plug ready for that
MrSoulmate2 sorry, no idea
Little trick someone taught me get a punch and put a hole in the bottom of the oil filter so it drains out
I like that idea.
Great video, thx. Q1: How long do you have to run the engine before it is ok to put the panel back on? Q2: How do you like your 2016 CX9? Pros and Cons please?
BeeeHonest I ran it for about 5 minutes, checked for leaks around the plug and filter, then replaced panel. We still love the CX-9. Lots of pros: starting with how fun it is to drive, great stereo, and generally well thought out. Cons: slow boot of entertainment system (good once booted) and front parking sensors would be good as it's hard to judge how close you are if there is a low object in front of you.
Kill-O-Byte Thank you for the answer. One last Q. Did you get to take it out for a little bit of offroad?
BeeeHonest no off-road. BTW, 30 seconds for infotainment system to fully load. Radio starts up right away though.
Kill-O-Byte Thank you!
I have the mazda cx9 2011 can i use this video with my year model
doubtful--it's a completely different engine design for starters
Just changed my oil, jackwagon tech who changed it last time I swear used a torque wrench. People you don't need to tightened the oil filter so much.
Nothing wrong with using a torque wrench. In fact if you did use a torque wrench then you wouldn't over torque it. Why else would you use a torque wrench and then ignore the torque spec for it?
@@stevensevek6151 oil filter should be hand tight only
Good video. On my cx9 the oil change is every6,000 miles and not 3,000. Why are you changing it at 3,000 miles?
I do my first oil changes early, around 3k miles, just in case there are any metal shavings, etc. The filter should catch them but I like to do it anyway.
@@Killobyte that 6607 filter is definitely a small one...those are more for the Mazda 2 or a Honda Fit. You could try a 7317 next time. Same screw-in threads, but a larger filter media for a vehicle of this size. I even use the 7317 on my Civic. Just an idea.
Can you use 5-30 full sythnetic
That is the only kind you should use.
why not mobil1 or pennzoil? could you tell me the reason to choose the royal purple?🤔
张雨 as long as it's a quality oil, you should be fine. I used Royal Purple because it's one of the best.
Kill-O-Byte OK,thx,I will try it😁
Is there any kind of copper or other material gasket or washer on the oil drain plug?
It has an aluminum washer which can be reused as long as it isn't abused.
@@Killobyte Thank you... I just purchased a '21 Mazda 3 Turbo and will be doing my own oil changes. I would imagine it should be virtually identical to what you did as they are the same engine. Thanks again for the great video and the information.
Hello , I have Mazda CX9 2017 And the oils is smells on petrol .I see there is petrol in my Oil and. Someone told me that this is because of cold weather.
Thank You,
Sounds like oil dilution caused by the high pressure GDI system combined with a turbo. I was concerned that could be a problem. You have validated my concerns.
Friends don't let friends use Fran...
Was all I could get quickly. I'm using Mazda filter now.
Kill-O-Byte where did you get the Mazda oil filter from?
Just bought a 2016 Mazda CX-9 and plan on changing the oil myself.
Except he used a Fram Ultra which by all measures is a fantastic filter.
@@georgepaniagua6115 Try RockAuto, Amazon or contact local dealer
When under the car, instead of saying that you're slightly to the righter side, try slightly to the passenger side or driver side...that's usually how you refer to sides of a car :)
Dude, PLEASE use gloves!!!
Threaded plastic bottle filled with Kleenex= fram oil filter
P Whittaker I agree for their base orange filter. The one I used is actually pretty good. Look at the oil filter reviews for the cut out, it has a much higher quality design then their base filter.
@@Killobyte I shouldn't dog them too much diy driveway oil changers should by what they can afford, those filters are 4 bucks or so at Wal-Mart. I have started using the oem for my cx9 but will continue to use the fram extended guard for my 03 gmc sierra.
Fram ultra synthetc filters are among the best filters you can buy.
Just change the oil man!!!! Too much talking!!!,
