- Brooklyn-based filmmakers Mika Altskan and Matvey Fiks follow street photographer Daniel Arnold over three days and across the five boroughs as the photographer homes in on his subjects-teenagers lifting weights in an alleyway, grandmothers gossiping on a boardwalk bench, a father who pantomimes throwing his son in a trash can-depicting the diverse, chaotic energy of the city, and Arnold’s method of capturing the moments that can slip past others in all of their humanity-revealing glory.

Daniel Arnold’s New York | Vogue
This video feels exactly how it does when you're on the street taking photos
I agree with you
Precisely.
my thoughts exactly! loved it. props to the editor and camera man
It's like you're hyper aware of everything around you whilst walking whilst ensuring your camera is set to fire. I love it.
im sweating already
Whoever edited this video deserves a award
Yes !
Yes, for most interjecting themselves into the story.

All you need is a camera and two shaky hands. ;)

As a young female photographer, street photography is still so anxiety inducing... I don't wanna be a creep or have mad people chasing me, but there you see it, even the masters go through it, you can't escape it
I do street photos in manhattan. it’s one of those things that i think looks scarier when watching someone do it
This video was, artistically, very inspiring
I love the fact that this video was shot on film.
You wouldn't steal a car, you wouldn't steal a TV.
You wouldn't steal a baby
i would
i did both
People in NYC would! Or at least they did when I used to live there.
They are referencing the old piracy ads
The ambience ,the vibe, the atmosphere, the little animation touches, the sound design, the camera movement, everything transported us to the location and the activity itself. The technical aspects immensely up lifted the narrative of the video here. Absolutely worth the watch, absolutely worth the share and absolutely worth the click!
the music too! such high energy to match the cuts and motion
It's amazing all of these moments of interest that happen around us all the time. We don't even recognize it. All these small moments make up our lives. Great feature Vogue!
Got into street photography two years ago; it's transformed how I see the city and people around me. It's almost like having another dimension revealed, where "small moments," as you say, are elevated into the dramatic works of art they can be when framed properly.
some people are already aware of this..without having to snap pictures. Also what this guy is doing..people have been doing it for years and years..nothing new.
this is sick. agreed
+ Stones Jones thanks for the info negative nancy
this is by far one of my favorite short doc ever, is sick !!!!!!🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
The cinematography in this is better than most of his photos.
your honesty is violent))
truth hurts
You cant compare such things
the first thing i tought
First thought I had 😊
The Camera is the Contax G2
Thank you!

That’s what I thought! A contax g2!
Ha! Then I guessed right.
Every time I see him doing his "stealth thing" I get so much anxiety. Watching his approach makes me very uncomfortable. But I absolutely love his images. He's brilliant. This video intensified that anxiety feel 100x. Well done.
check out Mark Cohen for an even more in-your-face, anxiety-inducing approach
This video is absolutely amazing. This is exactly how being out on the street shooting feels.
I really love this! The animation, the cinematics! wow amazing. I wish i could surround myself with people talented like this! Have a lovely day and thanks for inspiring me. take care ;)
Jonas Vanden Broeck
been following him since 2013 and this is the first time I've ever heard him speak
Потрясающи снято. Особенно цвета заставляют смотреть.
Vogue, this is one of my favorite videos you've posted in 2017 so far! #YASDANIEL
The sound is really well worked
Does anyone know how the white animated elements are drawn & then built into the sequences? Thanks 💚
Justine Leconte officiel i was wandering the same thing
It's probably done in Adobe After Effects. Just search for "after effects scribbly lines" and you'll find plenty of tutorials.
shizzled thanks, I'll look there!
Was done in Flash most likely. Could also be done in Photoshop. Look up frame by frame animation.
Yeah what you said makes more sense.
Contax G2´s prices skyrocketing in 3... ... wait, it already happened years ago.
this video is way more vibe than the photographer's pic
You have no idea how much I loved this film
I am pretty sure its not shot on 16mm kodak film...
This video just made me hate myself for all the photos I never took because I didn’t want to be “creepy” or “invasive” if your intensions are good then go for it is the way I’m gonna stick with wow 😩
Really wish RUclips had a search by vibe option. Not a search by content, just by vibe.
A great great short film! Steve aka The Talking Fly
The video looks like it was shot on 16mm film but I'm sure it's digital, or maybe it isn't..are my eyes deceiving me? Am I going crazy ? Idk but whoever filmed and edited this is a genius
Why are you sure it's digital?
I watch this video every once in a while, Daniel and the city inspire me sooo much, what I love about Daniel is that he has this strong awareness of reality when he shoots, it's like the people are carried on by their thoughts, in their bubbles and he is actually surfing the present I love this I love you Daniel! Sending positive vibrations to you
Take 4 minutes and check out my new short film! ruclips.net/video/j6JWaZF5UBo/видео.html
that loose hip perspective is super cool
Like the intro so much. All the rest is superb edited.
legit the best street photography video i've ever seen.
Remind me so much of that doc called “Everybody Street”
Мужик отлично пользуется сменой ритмов!
Whenever I watch this video, I feel like I am on the street with him.
this is the best video on the entire internet
Wtf was this …. Good camera Contax G with 200 flash unit
2:56 pause it
“If the sun is in your eyes, turn around.” -god
soundtrack goals
This video makes me think of the opening credits of the odd couple show. Google it and you’ll see what I mean lol but this guys great. Street photographers really have nerves of steel. Idk if I could do it.
What video cam????
Please I search for 1 hour what is the name of this music ?
This is so magical!!!!
Nicely done
Well that was moving.
This is exactly the type of film that I want to make
Vogue should make more videos like this!!!!
Darn! I wish they would say what they used to film this
Uncut Gems for street photographers
here for Ilya's amazing hand drawn typography animation
wow........
best video on youtube! 🚫🧢
Hey does anyone know what camera was the video shot on? I get that it's 16mm but which one?
Nadiia Rebrova ANYONE???
Arri 416 :)
Contax g2
I need to know what song this is!
The man @1:03 made a good still frame shooing Daniel away. L man but W still frame image
Privacy is not yours anymore, its everyones
people have a phone with microphones, cameras, internet connection, citys with video cameras all over the place and the end of privacy is a photographer with a film camera? ha
@@lopescorte104 so your agument is if other things are unethical everybody just can be unethical? makes sense...
@@louisedebambambum No
What type of camera does he use?
Amazing!
Honestly, the video makes the photographer seems to be quite annoying.
to each their own, on the flip side, this makes thousands feel great with just a quick video. :D
I would have to agree sadly. I got annoyed watching it and didn't finish. It's like I was watching a call of duty trailer without the dubstep. or a michael bay trailer without explosions. just not my thing.
why?
Is that some kind of filter or was it shot on, I dunno, 16mm?
OK, it was Kodak 16mm.
it is 16mm
great video editing and great 16mm film....quite outstanding.....
Only got this in my feed in 2019 but the edit of this video is bordering witchcraft and more captivating than Daniels' brilliant photos
Nice
is that an autofocus film camera?
The woman at the beginning of this, the woman who works at Vista CRC is so cool and funny and friendly. Glad she got a little shout out in this.
Really different but beautiful! 🌃🌃
Amazing Edit! Great artist.
Love this video! Anyone know what the song is?
Great little film, But the Contax AUTO is horrible for fast shooting with the auto delay.... put the camera to your eye and shoot like a pro............... Buy a Leica.......
This video is so rad! love the run and gun simplistic photo setup Daniel has.

Que camara es ?
whenever i don't want to go out and shoot, i watch this
one of my favourite photographers right now.
love how he depicts NY, there is something honest & raw about his pictures
2:19 сукин сын? Чего?!
No way!!!
This is it! No fancy schnickschnack - just going for it! Amazing video!❤️
How did thery shoot the 0:35 movement?
Cool
This was more about the filmmakers than Daniel Arnold, unfortunately. Super annoying editing “style”.
Like this video
I put down what i was doing to full watch this video. The editing was flawless
but is it G1 or G2?
yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
birdman ?
quick question what camera was this filmed on it looks 16mm ngl
The Brighton beach cinematography is very very requirem for a dream I love ittt
♥ "Birdman"
Cool makes me inspired to go out and shoot. It would cool to see a POV style video with Daniel just shooting
Zip zap zoom.
loved it **
