The old grandfather time with his grandson is priceless. No amount of money can buy the type of education this grandfather is teaching his grandson. The knowledge of the elders must be passed on to the young in order to preserve the past. Each one, teach one. The past must be passed on.
Thank you for posting, it has brought me back to a break we had in Petra and Wadi Rum, brings back good memories, thanks. Have to feel for Zed's brother who enjoys school but also for Zed who will carry on some of the traditions. Without camels they are stuffed completely, camels are highly intelligent, emotional and loyal creatures much misunderstood, they are the most loyal of pure companions....
Awesome just awesome. And to think Moses and Aaron walked that. And it’s where Aaron is buried. I heard that they think Job lived in Petra. ❤️❤️❤️👍thank you
My husband and 2 of my kids + some of his family got to spend the night in a igloo tent out in the Desert last month Feb/2021 They had a blast! Can’t wait to go back to Jordan to experience it. Inshallah this summer
I love this Documentary! I had seen a small clip of Zed & his grandfather before going to look at the ancient ruin! But this gives much more detail! One thing I love about Many of your Documentaries is that u show Unesco world heritage sites an in depth views of those cultures! I absolutely love that ! It's so important that EVERYONE'S culture is preserved or brought back, we should never lose site how beautiful and unique this world and all it's inhabitants is!! Blessings and thank you! Keep up the great work SLICE!! from a happy subscriber in Dayton Ohio USA
Abu Ali is so likable; every kid should have a grandpa like him. Interesting the way Zed's parents accept his personality and try to help him into a lifestyle he'll be happy living, instead of forcing him to school. Pragmatic people.
Don’t ever lose this tape. Infact I’d make tape and sell them to the tourist at Petra where I would love to see. Even more so now I know more of its background. What a priceless documentary. “ it’s a robot, yes! The robot moves to whip the camel” “ oh God give me Strength “. Lol. Have a few coffees mate lol.
Knowledge is what the old man possesses and what money can never buy or a college provide. What a delight to watch him and his grandson share intimate moments together. Will be visiting Jordon this December. I wonder if I will see Zed and his camel in Petra.
The man is so wise, I really hope people listen to him, when he dies, who will pass on those traditions? It's true, we become less healthy, more vulnerable to disease, and all kinds of disaster when we lost sight of who we are. This is happening all over the world. Tourism is a double edged sword and sad to learn that it is changing the way camels are being raised and fed.
Sadly the pandemic has left the region economically strapped. Without tourists local guides have no means of income, restaurants, and other shops don't need as much staff.
I visited Petra in 1979 and spent the night there sleeping in a cave at Nahal's camp. My study tour group entered through the narrow suk in a cattle truck in the evening. There were Beduins camping in flat areas on either side of the road. We saw their campfires and heard the tinkling bells of their camels. Nahal's camp was right in front of the famous Treasury and the caves were nearby. My time there was magical. The Beduin people were wonderfully friendly and part of the magic. I am sad they have been displaced. The buildings are beautiful but their builders are no longer there. But the Beduin people from whom they descended still were when I visited. I treasure my memory of Petra as well as the people who lived there. Today's tourists are cheated because they are no longer there.
ive been in these places it so pretty and wonderfull, especially wadi rum, did a one night camping, the skyes wore out of this world. the athmosphere is really like nothing else, its as if a God has passed by those places.
Change and progress are unstoppable. 1200 years ago bedus didnt have cotton scarves since cotton was new thing. No coffee nor tea. Just flat bread. 200 years before that not even islam. Now all these are thought as core traditions of bedouin.
I have such an artifact that seems to read Petra. It's looking like history wins travelling before modern day. So there's a nice treasure that seems to be indicated there. A map of artistic view. They won't forget who they are. They won't.
Insanity! To thow out the natural inhabitants, who instead of taking care of dwellings while living there, become detached and homeless. Of COURSE only for 'preservation' for humankind.
Lots of inaccuracies. Europeans rediscovered petra? It was never lost to the locals. The amphitheater wasn't built at the same time as the buildings. Djinn are not strictly malevolent. Etc
My great aunt had a baby in her late fifties. I asked her if it was my cousins child, her daughter. She just gave me a nervous laugh and fled. Turns out it was hers. It's pretty common in third world countries.
We are all the same really at heart all over the planet. In the UK it is the other way about - where I live most people have come recently from abroad and I am one of the few who was here for thousands of years. However we are not allowed to say we want to preserve our traditions. Instead we have to accept the traditions of women second to men and much else around us amongst the newcomers whom we are supposed to welcome and say they are wonderful even if their traditions are worse than ours. I wonder if the Bedouin would like 18m people from the UK in their lands? We have 18 more people in the UK than when I was born including 1m illegally here.
Your country imperial era Fu**ed up the whole world, the least your government can do is to help a handful from the billions of victims, even more, they should not be grateful.

Thats terrible that the Camel baby don't stay with her Mom after birth because the Milk will be stolen by Beduins. Teribble what they do with all animals. How they treat them.👎👎👎

Superb - many thanks to Abu Lafi and his family, and the film crew. May the wisdom of the Bedouin survive and thrive for many more generations.

With all the youtube videos showing the commercial Petra, its fascinating to watch this channel depicting the other side of Petra.
Zed made me watch the whole episode; he's too cute! I especially liked how he "stole" money from his father's pocket!😅😜

Yes agree with this elder we must preserve in order to survive as much as we can traditionally.
Its 2021, I wonder where Zed is now?

How much does a camel cost?
Nowadays all outsiders need to do is be around these ancient cultures to have a negativ effect on them transforming and losing them to our detriment..
👍🐪 💜 colors and nature..👊
I can only pay 900 settles on 1350 then proceeds to pull out a huge wad of cash loool

PSA: Anytime a government offers to "relocate" people, it never goes well for said people.

She’s been exposed to the elements without protection; sun, wind, etc…
Why are the voices dubbed in British accents? lol
