The sunday night market is definitely a highlight of Chiang Mai, it is the most amazing super long market. You missed the most wonderful time. When the market opens they play the national anthem. Everyone stops and faces one direction, not a person moves, it is so freaky!! Enjoy yourself!!

I just left yesterday from chiang mai was there for 2 months. We are friends with some Thai families there the worst food is on the main streets go to the places that don’t have all the reviews lol and eat raw larb it’s amazing I eat it everyday
Can someone please explain the difference and appeal between Chiang Mai vs Bangkok? I’ve see a few vids now with people staying in Chiang Mai and curiously wondering what are the difference and appeal.
That's the magic of Asia - people open up while they are there because Southeast Asians are so friendly and social. For some reason when you're in Asia, the weather, beaches, sea breeze, palm trees, friendly locals, peaceful Buddhist culture mixed with tons of tourists who are in a positive state of mind just makes people feel lighter, more relaxed and willing to converse with random people.
Thank you for your support to the locals, Oni, and pleased to hear a word 'grateful' at times. What a wonderful attitude to values every lil things you met. So that makes you smiles as well as your friends as if you all are Thai who love smiling. That's my observation.

@@rgasta7765 well it all depends where you go and how much you can speak thai. typically bars and nightclubs that cater to foreigners will be easier to spark up conversation. culturally thai are quite reserved or a little hesitant to speak english. however, if you can speak a little thai, your chances are much greater to meet others anywhere you go.

Hi Oni! The Thai vendors expect you to haggle with the price so the price is somewhat inflated. The best way to haggle is to start at half what you're willing to pay. If you're only willing to pay 100 Baht, start the offer at 50 Baht and work your way up to 100 Baht. Don't be afraid to walk away if you don't get your price because there are other vendors selling the same items. They all get their merchandise from the same distributor! Don't be afraid to haggle because unless you're shopping at retail stores in the mall, street vendors expect it.

Back in the 90’s and 2000’s when I was in the U.S Navy I was stationed in Asia and we often stopped everywhere in Asia across the IO and Pacific and one thing you learned is that if it was everything you can haggle for in price from stores to street vendors. It is understandable though given the severe hit from the recent pandemic in supporting the vendors for their livelihood.

I spent 3 weeks in Chiang Mai with a side run to Chiang Rai and had a great time--I love to cook Thai food and while my wife was there doing her art residency I went to the markets buying cooking ingredients, sketching, got another tattoo, and hanging out on Loi Kroh Road with the friendly barfolk. We'd like to return there each year for a similar amount of time.

If you can not find a price you like in the markets or stores there is always Lazada and Shopee which may have a lower price online. Having the right attitude makes it easy to find people you vibe with having a wonderful time. Take life at your own pace enjoying every second being happy with yourself. Overseas you can be yourself without having to put a show for others. Try to live each day that makes yesterday jealous. Having a home base near other countries makes them more affordable to explore if wanted. ONI has open himself to a world of almost unlimited opportunities just by being himself. His amazing adventures are only just beginning in his life. Myself living ten years in Thailand I still have plenty of options to explore. I have slowed down a bit cause of health problems but still enjoy life at my on pace. No matter where you live the key to happiness reside within yourself.😁
