If I’m honest, I’m glad the chickens grew up in a place where they were looked after in a loving kind place and then eaten. I don’t think I could do it myself but I know they could have gone to a very bad home where they grow up in a bad environment where they are treated badly because “they are only food”. People seem to forget that the life matters more than the end, we all die in the end but that doesn’t mean we should be cruel because they only going to die.
At the end of the day the people who are asking how can you love and then butcher animals for food don't realize your kids are learning several life lessons respect for animals and learning where their food comes from
My city raised husband would like to believe processed food just appears in the grocery store. He doesn't want to think about them as being alive previouslly.
I want to raise chickens so bad, and be sustainable on my own. I know it will be hard, so thankyou for showing this, because it's amazing education on how to be ethically sustanable.
We had a Vietnamese family move in. My MIL watched them and asked if chicken coops and live chi chicken were permitted in out community. We live in an HOA community. The CC&Rs only permit indoor domestic pets - dogs, cats, fish and birds. I was the Treasurer and was one of the people who had to go down to explain the County also didn't permit chickens. We helped them take down the coop. Fortunately the chickens hadn't been delivered yet.
Honestly the best way to eat meat! You know that they have a good life and a healthy one as well! People who eat storebought chicken should do some research before commenting! Love your videos, keep up the good work. Looking forward to the aviary!
My goodness she has grown so fast your daughter she is definitely the youngest sister to the boys. The resemblance is uncanny. She is such a beautiful little girl and three handsome young brothers. Oh she’ll be well protected.❤❤
I have enjoyed watching your family grow! I have noticed how much better the boys speech has gotten! Yall have done an awesome job helping them improve in that. They are all growing so fast!

We used to get baby checks in the mail and I don’t remember them being nearly as cute and likely as the ones you get!!!!! I love it when you do the “chick bath”😊❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ I don’t know who gets the most enjoyment ouf it: the children as they lay there giggling as the little chicks Walk on your tummies, or the adults watching the process. I just get the most enjoyment out of there giggles and how many little baby chicks you were actually able to get on their stomachs😊😊♥️♥️♥️♥️ Say “Cow” 🐄 😊♥️
This really reminds me of my chicks in my village, I watched them hatch I took care of them feed them every day but 2 months after I gotta leave them suprise! They have their own children!... They look soo cute ( in the vid )🥺 reminds me of my dead chick 😢
I respect how you live and I only wish that more people were able to live this way, take out mass production of farming animals for meat , if we all did it at home , it honestly is a lot less of a cruel life for them , they’re not some small cage in a factory, never seeing the light of day and being endlessly sick too .. ❤❤ well done to you and accomplishing this life ❤❤
This is one of the best "chick baths" I have seen and I have seen a few. Love and prayers from Idaho. I would put the little polish with the hen because itt will grow so much slower than the broilers.
PS~ it’s always interesting the names which your children pick out for the animals. I’m always smiling at some of their choices, and sometimes I actually laugh out loud.!! such sweet, innocence❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
You ought to contact Living Traditions Homestead for the American Bresse chickens they raise. They sell the day-old chicks. They're like the Ginger Broilers as far as growth time... 12-16 weeks, but they are great for dual purpose. Keep the pullets/hens for egg laying, large beautiful cream colored eggs... and harvest the males (less one for breeding purposes) for the freezer. You're looking at 7-8 lbs for the roosters, and they're now considered the 'Waygu' of chicken meat. Kevin and Sarah won't ship out of state, so since you're both in MO, shouldn't be a problem.
I can completely respect your take on raising meat birds. I think it's on par with Gold Shaw Farm's take-give them a great life, experience & living situation with one bad day.
I would love to see you guys get some lady amherst pheasants, and then crossbreed them with the golden pheasants, both with a golden male and amherst female and reverse, the crossbreeds can look really cool!!
The one with the poof on its head reminded me of my chicken Marigold that died from a bobcat.😭 So please don't kill that one it is the cutest thing😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❣️❣️😍😍🥰🥰🥰
it's awesome that your raising your own meat. also a funny coinsidence someone I know also ordered meat birds and got a golden laced polish from mcmurray.
I’m surprised that is all you raise for meat. Would have thought you would need more for your large family. Love your videos. Appreciate the candid way to describe farm life.
Oh this brings back memories from 1990's When we had an acreage we would get chick's from McMurray, usually got the rare chick batch, So much Fun to try to figure out what they where! Got the broiler lot to fill our freezer too
I’ve watched your channel for a WHILE. I’ve watched almost all of you videos. Let me say that I’m a big fan of your channel, and your editing has improved so much over time! I’m always looking forward to your videos 😊
When I was a kid (ironically, in semi-rural Missouri!) my parents had chickens (unfortunately I can't recall the breeds! We had an asshole rooster named Ike though), ducks (later on, when I was in middle school), goats (at two separate points), horses, miniature donkeys, and, at one point, even turkeys (that ended up flying away). My parents currently live in rural Missouri, and I've genuinely been thinking about surprising my mom with a bunch of chicks of varying breeds in the mail for her birthday (December 11th) once I have the disposable income because of you all
I'm always glad to see a notification from you guys! You've showed us the hatchery process from eggs to shipping, but I'm curious about the lives of the laying hens. How do they get so many eggs?
I think homeraised/free range chickens for meat is the most humane option for the birds. They arent trapped inside or fed soley one type of food and theyre even able to freely behave like chickens and dust bathe.
So I watch this again because I was looking for the name of some thing that you showed in your mail, but this is not a video for Mail… But it reminded me of a couple things that I did what I say: 1) and I don’t think it’s this video that you showed one duck eggs but, I want to tell you that one year when I was still living on the farm with my parents when I was about 14 years of age, my mom came in from the outdoors where she was hanging laundry, and she said to us children that were doing chores inside, “I just saw the strangest thing” …She went on to say, “ a pair of wood ducks, just flew up in the maple tree by the garden, and within 20 feet of where I was standing… I’m just getting on the footage ~ I am terrible at guessing distance ~ she didn’t told us that we were not to go anywhere near that tree. If we wanted to look out her bedroom window, though, we would most likely seat them as one of them would fly in and out. She assumed they were building a nest. Well, this process went on for days of a wood duck, leaving and coming back in with nesting material. At one time there had been a small bee hive in the tree, and my father had to take a large branch with a cloth tied onto the end, and gasoline poured onto cloth, and then he systematically, began eliminating Bees and their hive… no typically you don’t do that you want to preserve the bees, but in this case, they were destroying the tree, because the beehive had gotten so large. The upper branches on one side were dying. He thought that this was a strange situation, but nonetheless, he had to take care of it. Probably three years earlier in a different tree, they harvested the honey, even though it was dark. Such a mess because we did not have all of the equipment that is now available to people And so my mother used her canning supplies and everything was so sticky and very hard to clean so we ended up just having to boil water and soak everything in an initial boiling hot bath with soap, and then wash it again and then sometimes a third time before everything came off… And I decided in there, I was never going to grow bees… but I do have a sister that is like your family, she has multiple bees, and she watches your RUclips. She’s amazed at the round beehive you have, and she’s going to look into that for next spring. She also loves your Lego hive, but recognizes that that was not only a large expense but a lot of time to build it, and said she thought your boys and you did a marvelous job in building the Lego hive. I have learned a lot from her and from you guys, and I truly do have the upmost respect for the work you do and the fact that you’re willing to tackle the mesh that comes with harvesting honey. know if they could just invent an outdoor dishwasher so you could put everything in that outdoor dishwasher and never have to bring the mess into your home that would be great. I do know they have a portable dishwasher but I don’t know if that’s an electric one or not. Anyway, I digress! Back to the wood ducks that were in our tree. It wasn’t long before they had stopped bringing nesting material into the tree, and you began to see them less and less, but you could hear them talking to each other more and more😄❣️ my mother told us that she was certain that the female was laying eggs at this point. We didn’t have time to sit and watch the birds too much because we were very busy on the farm… There were 12 children in our home, and we had about five or six large gardens, plus my father had a garden on the hill and we only worked in it when he was with us. There was definitely trimming it always needed to be done after he mowed,… Many animals to feed and water, which the water was hand carried in buckets from the hydrant between the barn in the house and it was no short walk either direction but we did not have garden hoses back then for the longest time. And the list goes on and on of work that had to be done by us girls inside the house and outside but the boys, only worked outside. I never thought this was for fair, but, we didn’t get a Vote!!😂 It wasn’t long before we began to hear little baby duck sounds, and we were really excited. That’s what our mother told us that eventually when it came time for them to get out of that tree, since the nurse was down, way down in the trunk, the baby ducks would have to learn to fly up to the top. She then told us that the parents, one of them, or both of them would be up at the top, waiting for the baby ducks because they would sit there and talk to them, encouraging them to fly up and follow their voice, and when they reach the top, the parents pushed them off the tree!!!!!!!😢🤣🤣😂😂 what?!?!? This seemed so cruel to me, however, once again, our mother explained that they had plenty of time to flap their wings between the top of the tree and the ground, and if they didn’t flap their wings, they weren’t gonna learn to fly, and the consequences were not good either way. If they hit the ground, then the wood that parents had to sit up there and keep talking to them to get them to fly a upwards, which was a lot harder than downwards !?!? I did see one baby duck hit the ground and it was horrible and a couple of us were crying about it, and my mother would not tolerate crying… So she told us to get busy with our work and forget the ducks and Shirley, by the time we were done with her chores, the baby duck would already be gone either by flying to it’s parents or by a cat getting the baby duck while on the ground!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 #2 ~ this is a question: or a suggestion actually regarding your daughter, wanting to hold the baby chicks and other little tiny animals, and she doesn’t realize her old strength in her hand… We had the same problem with my daughter, and she had two older brothers, so she thought she had to be able to do everything they did. on a day that she was in a good mood and had had food and it wasn’t time for a nap, we sat on the porch swing and we had a conversation about who is the biggest and who was the strongest in our family and did she think she was the strongest daddy which it was funny she did but then we talked about what daddy could do with his strength and could she do it and then she realize no I can’t so she realize she wasn’t as strong as daddy. We didn’t talk about her brothers and were they stronger than her and what could they do that she couldn’t. Then I said I had a gift for her so she got excited and forgot all about being strong but I had put that in her mind, and when she opened it, it was a little purse, and the handle could come off and I wanted it to be for a simple purpose and that was... putting the baby chicks in and other little baby animals so that she would be holding the purse and not squeezing them. This was monumental in solving that problem. She loved her little purse as I knew she would and she could not squeeze the animal inside unless, of course she put a lot of effort in it, and then we would be taking the purse which she would not want it, and we talked about that. But the other thing came of giving her the purse that I had not counted on, she got to carry the baby animals to their new pen… On Mail day, & even when we moved him to the next stage of home/building. She felt so proud that she could move the little baby ones and not just big chickens. You might give that a try and see what you think. You may have a purse already like this or a Easter basket or something that you could use that would eliminate squeezing the animals… Sink problem if you have baby kittens there’s a lot a little tiny, baby animals that you guys get on your farm and you wouldn’t have to worry about her hurting them nearly as much. It’s a great teaching aid. I did not realize how much Happy 🎉 Birthday to your precious girl who is learning so much about life and loving the animals because of her parents and brothers. I’m so proud of you guys for the family you have in your great big smiles, but also for all your teaching them that fall last time all of their life😄❣️❣️❣️❣️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
"How can you love and play with your birds only to butcher them?" Would you prefer the birds aren't raised with love before they're butchered? People are funny. 😂
PS 2 - one more question about the baby chicks you get in the mail or even the ones you had joke. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you dip their beaks in water when you put them in their new cage after the incubator. Do you guys do that? Do you believe it’s necessary as so many other farmers do this process… Not only dipping your boots in the water, so they know what it is and where it is but then also the food. I think they naturally can smell the food and probably even the water but I’d be interested in knowing your thoughts if you care to show that on a different video. My last question is and I searched all of your videos that are the most recent and I cannot find it but you were reading mail with your children at the end of the video. By the way, I love it that your children say thank you and then they pronounce the names of the people that have sent them a drawing, a card, even a gift, and they do this for every single one. Even your youngest son is making an effort to pronounce their names, and he gets pretty close on the life of them. I am so proud of you guys as parents, to teach them the importance of not only saying thank you, but addressing the individual who has mail them something. I know Childrens and other farm families who I will not name but it drives oh show me your me nuts and they are three times the age of your children and they have to be told to say thank you after they have been given expensive gifts… Especially one of their children and I am so upset every time I see this because our family we were 12 children and not very rich or even middle-class, but there were a lot of farmers in the same condition we were, but it was just multiplied because we were larger families. But my mom and dad taught us rules and manners and we weren’t allowed to even use our play with a gift until we sit down and write a thank you, once we were of age & able to do that ❣️❣️ but two of their children on this one, RUclips farm are clearly older than your children and every time they videotape the parents have to tell them to say thank you, more so one of them than the other… The older one is pretty good about it and I don’t expect them to not say it every single time because I get excited. But they definitely never say the names of the people… When they’re saying thank you. They might say it at the beginning if they read the card but definitely not after they open a gift and I’m talking hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of gifts. Your children are so grateful for the drawings they get and I want to encourage you to put them in acid free portfolios or notebook pages or sleeves that are see-through plastic but still acid free so they don’t fade over the years. Your children will love having those drawings for years. I have a drawing that my daughter did have a little horse and she was maybe 2 1/2 to 3 years old and I love that little drawing. I was always going to make a piece of jewelry out of it but life gets busy and money gets shorter. It seems especially now that I have 11 Grandchildren & medical issues. I am an artist, and I value every drawing I receive from my grandchildren. I have a bulletin board in my kitchen where I keep them and I also date them. And eventually I protect them in the kind of books I’ve just described. I did not know about acid free, pages in paper, notebooks etc. until I took a photography class about 10 years ago when I was going back to college for the third time for a different degree And for extra credit I took this photography class and I learned so much but that was huge for me because I have thousands and thousands of photos and I noticed the Polaroid photos of the 1970s and early mid 60s were😂😢.. and they were of my firstborn child. It makes me very sad especially as one of them is his baptism and they are also with his father who passed away six years ago, so I try to tell people that I can’t get those photos in a book and it doesn’t have to be perfect… It’s something you can involve your children in at least organize helping you organize between us for children and make piles and that sorting takes a lot of time so if they can help you just with that and of course you have to teach them to catch them on the corners of the edges, and I know your daughter would want to help but you could just give her a box and the boys can throw her pictures in her box and she could just hold onto the box. anyway, I try not to give out advice unless I think it’s good and important, but never judge mental. You guys are such wonderful adults and incredible family and you are my top family RUclips that I watch.!!! thank you. God bless you and Happy Thanksgiving. Oh! I almost forgot what it was I was looking for, and I need your help with it. When you were doing the mail, you got something from a lady I believe her name is Joanne Rose and she was from Texas? And she sent you five cute little miniature funnels?? And would you put water in them and then you stick them in the ground so that the bees and hummingbirds can get water. I have a sister that I spoke to you about before that has wonderful . bees bird & lots of hummingbirds because she plants certain flowers, and plants that both of them like for the pollination process as well as food source. I would like to buy these and send them to her, but I could not find them in your notes at the end of your video. In fact, when I went to find the video, I couldn’t find it but it is the one were you doing mail with the children and it is wonderful all the wonderful drawings that you get from other children but also that your children tell them thank you. Also, somebody made you a stuffed animal that is I believe a chicken… And I know you’ll have the children share it but your youngest son said it was he has it and he grabbed it for anybody else good. That just made me giggle. I’m sure the lady would make more for your children especially if she watched a video and saw how much they loved it. I’m in adult and I thought it was adorable. If you could send me your information to my email, I would so appreciate it because anything that has to do with her animals on her farm is a great gift and Christmas is around the corner. God bless you all.😇♥️🌈
I would love to stroll through your garden. More free fertilizer Love barbequed chicken and a tossed salad. How do you explain the difference between the meat chickens and egg chickens to small children. I grew up on fresh farm meat and I'm so proud of you. I think I am as healthy as I am at my old age because of the diet I ate growing up. It is so easy to make your own Mayo. You can flavor it anyway you want and use any kind of oil. My grandma allowed us to be friend the laying hens but except for feeding them we were not allowed to play with those being raised for meat.

Well said!
I am a boy and my name is faaiz and I love chicken very much
I too have a gender and name and have an extreme admiration for a certain species of bird.
I do really love chicks so it really hurts me that they are killed in here too
I agree I don’t eat my chickens but still chickens are food so are eggs it’s really no different than eating chicken from the store
The kids & chicks are absolutely adorable! Love how gentle each of them is with the animals. Awesome job teaching them!
So precious you keeping this tradition with the kids 🐥 🛁
Thanks, Darlou 😊
Enjoy watching your family grow, birds are so cool!
I feel the same way
I love your outlook on animals and family. Your family inspires so many of us city folk. Congrats on the new chicks.

Good going, guys. Your position is well explained and far more sustainable than any haters out there.
I appreciate it, Billy

The chicks are quite flexible to handle that.
I used to get worried when i first saw my hen do that
It's funny because it's as soon as he says "it seems like she's going to protect the new chicks"

Ahh, sorry to hear you're sick, feel better!
I love this channel. Beautiful family!!
That's sweet, Patti, thank you
Keep up the good work its kept me around for 4+ years
I appreciate it!
Remind me of the good old days that we can raise chicken in home, "our" government need a licensed and pay for it since 2006, no mercy.

You're looking at 7-8 lbs for the roosters, and they're now considered the 'Waygu' of chicken meat. Kevin and Sarah won't ship out of state, so since you're both in MO, shouldn't be a problem.
I had a chick named Burnt Brownie! 🐣❤️
So cute❤ can’t wait for the next video.
You all are such a joy to watch. And we get husbandry tips as well. ❤
Thanks, Maureen!
I can completely respect your take on raising meat birds. I think it's on par with Gold Shaw Farm's take-give them a great life, experience & living situation with one bad day.
Beautiful family as always
Love your chickens projects.
I put 24 eggs to be incubated I have 17 out of 24 hatch started Monday and yesterday I couldn't be happier to welcome the new lil ones to the family
I would love to see you guys get some lady amherst pheasants, and then crossbreed them with the golden pheasants, both with a golden male and amherst female and reverse, the crossbreeds can look really cool!!
You guys have inspired me so much when I grow up I’m going to have a farm
Awesome!
The one with the poof on its head reminded me of my chicken Marigold that died from a bobcat.😭
So please don't kill that one it is the cutest thing😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❣️❣️😍😍🥰🥰🥰
I love how your video’s are still mainly About the farm and just video fragments of the children instead off making it al about the kids!
Yay for the annual chic bath!!🐥
Beautiful! TX.
it's awesome that your raising your own meat. also a funny coinsidence someone I know also ordered meat birds and got a golden laced polish from mcmurray.
Thanks for such a cheerful, wholesome and uplifting video. You are definitely doing God’s work. Thanks again so much.
Wow this comment makes me sound like the lamest square old fogey that ever walked. Screw those chicks, life is pain.
Thank you, Andy!
That binky with the mustache is funny😂😂
The kids are getting so big!!
Oh to be a child again.. the boys are having so much fun 😂
ITS FUNNY HOW DOLLY AND MAISY COULD BE SWITCHED TO molly and daisy
😂
I’m surprised that is all you raise for meat. Would have thought you would need more for your large family. Love your videos. Appreciate the candid way to describe farm life.
We eat a lot of food, but 1 chicken per week usually works and we still have chicken, turkey and beef in the freezer that will last us quite awhile.
Thank you, Caroline. I appreciate it!
My parents currently live in rural Missouri, and I've genuinely been thinking about surprising my mom with a bunch of chicks of varying breeds in the mail for her birthday (December 11th) once I have the disposable income because of you all
Fres like from Yemen 🇾🇪👍👍👍👍
Bernie is cute! The boys are so funny with their chick baths LOL!
I used to raise my hands or the eggs.Cause I couldn't kill a hand could I fall in love with them too easily? My heart's there
Such a great video. Love watching the boys with the chic bath!
I appreciate it, Debbie!
Something to learn: So you have the chicks grown for the meat; while the current hatched from home chicks are for the eggs?
Correct
So cute
BRO THEY ARE SO CUTE THIS IS WHY I LIKE CHICKS
I feel like eating meat straight from your own farm is great and healthier. I’ve actually never eaten fresh chicken I’m sure it’s 👍
I just saw someone throw a chicken IN THE TRASH THAT IS SO EVIL😢😡 3:27
I think it was either an eggshell or a dead chick I don't think they would throw a live chick in the trash
So I watch this again because I was looking for the name of some thing that you showed in your mail, but this is not a video for Mail… But it reminded me of a couple things that I did what I say:
1) and I don’t think it’s this video that you showed one duck eggs but, I want to tell you that one year when I was still living on the farm with my parents when I was about 14 years of age, my mom came in from the outdoors where she was hanging laundry, and she said to us children that were doing chores inside, “I just saw the strangest thing” …She went on to say, “ a pair of wood ducks, just flew up in the maple tree by the garden, and within 20 feet of where I was standing… I’m just getting on the footage ~ I am terrible at guessing distance ~ she didn’t told us that we were not to go anywhere near that tree.
I never thought this was for fair, but, we didn’t get a Vote!!😂
It wasn’t long before we began to hear little baby duck sounds, and we were really excited. I did see one baby duck hit the ground and it was horrible and a couple of us were crying about it, and my mother would not tolerate crying… So she told us to get busy with our work and forget the ducks and Shirley, by the time we were done with her chores, the baby duck would already be gone either by flying to it’s parents or by a cat getting the baby duck while on the ground!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
#2 ~ this is a question: or a suggestion actually regarding your daughter, wanting to hold the baby chicks and other little tiny animals, and she doesn’t realize her old strength in her hand… We had the same problem with my daughter, and she had two older brothers, so she thought she had to be able to do everything they did. on a day that she was in a good mood and had had food and it wasn’t time for a nap, we sat on the porch swing and we had a conversation about who is the biggest and who was the strongest in our family and did she think she was the strongest daddy which it was funny she did but then we talked about what daddy could do with his strength and could she do it and then she realize no I can’t so she realize she wasn’t as strong as daddy.
Bro really took: in the mail
To another level
TY for showing the cycle of life. We all must obey Entropy (the 2nd law of thermodynamics). Natural Law is what governs our and all life.
All of this is so true.
More free fertilizer
Love barbequed chicken and a tossed salad.
Love your vids keep up the good work! 👍
Thank you White House on the hill for hearting my comment
Thanks for sharing ❤
