    Great info. I used to disconnect it and reconnect it when it hit at least 50%. Now I know its ok to leave the mac connected. I'm a music producer, so I'm using pretty much high consuming power apps. Leaving it connected at 100% sounds like a good relief to save up battery cycles.

    Brand new 2015 MBP purchased in 2017 mostly (85%) used plugged into wall developed bulged batteries in late 2020. Charge cycle count was 26. I bought a replacement battery from AliExpress and replaced it myself (very easy if you DON’T follow the ifixit method). Maybe I didn’t use the Mac enough or, maybe I didn’t maintain the charge correctly but it’s all good now.
    I needed to use the Mac while I waited for the new battery to come so I opened the case, pierced the battery wrapper to release the internal pressure and continued using while closely monitoring the battery for a few weeks. I had no problems but changed the battery just as soon as could.
    That’s my story 👍

    Hey Gary, I have one question - so you mentioned it's good to leave it plugged in if it's convenient while you are using your laptop, but what about leaving it plugged in throughout the day if you're not using it? I usually unplug and shut down my MacBook after I'm done using it, but should I keep it plugged in if it's just sitting on my desk? Or is it better to let it sit without constant charging?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 года назад +1

      Yes, leave it plugged in if you aren't using it and it is convenient. That way it is fully charged when you start using it again. Why not? And why are you shutting it down at all? There's no reason to shut it down. See ruclips.net/video/FsrTpEuXEtc/видео.html

    • @BaHahaA4
      @BaHahaA4 4 года назад

      macmostvideo I just want to make sure that leaving it plugged in while it’s fully charged doesn’t in some way degrade the battery. And I only shut it down when it’s not plugged in, if I put it to sleep and open it the next day the battery is much less than before. When I shutdown the battery stays preserved. However if my laptops plugged in I don’t bother to shut it down, just sleep

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 года назад +1

      @@BaHahaA4 No, it does not. Most people leave it plugged in. How else would you do it? Set an alarm and wake up in the middle of the night to unplug it when you think it is charged? It is expected that you plug it in, let it charge, and then leave it plugged in without a worry. Put it to sleep at night, leave it plugged in.

    I see so many people asking about the battery still. Why are people so skeptical about keeping it plugged in while using it? I’m also skeptical about it, I’ll be using it for a game here and there and using it for hours on end. It’d be completely fine, to keep it plugged in? Wouldn’t it heat up faster?

    I've been using MBPs since 2008 and I almost never unplug while I'm using it. The only time I unplug it is when I go to sleep at night, I take it in my room with me. And obviously, when I go places, I might use it on battery power. But at home, under normal circumstances, I use it plugged in. And I have NEVER had a probem with any of my battieries.

    Thanks a ton for the info Gary. I bought the MBP 16 inch a week ago and it is showing 11 cycle counts already! This is primarily due to the fact that i let the battery go all the way down to 5% and then plug it in. So now, if i keep my MBP plugged in all the time (or as much as possible) the will it decrease the cycle count? or in other words, will it slow down the increase of cycle count if i keep it plugged in even at 100% charged? Your thoughts on this will be highly appreciated.

    • @leisuretalks
      @leisuretalks 4 года назад +2

      Charge it when its below 25 % and unplug it when it reaches 75 %
      This way your battery wont get damaged quickly.
      Also keep a track of cycle count.
      You cannot decrease or stop cycle count it will keep on increasing and keeping it plugged in will damage battery soon
      You can stop your cycle count charging it till 100 percent anf using it plugged in all the time
      This damages battery anf you will be left with a desktop like macbook.
      Its not worth to buy laptop when you are using like desktop always plugged in

    You are providing some false information too. Keeping the computer plugged in a lot, reduces a Lithium Ion batteries lifespan.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 года назад

      False. Keeping it plugged in does not reduce the battery's lifespan. The opposite is true as you would be using the battery more without it plugged in. That is fine if you need to use it away from power as that is why you bought a MacBook, right? But keeping it unplugged for no reason when power is available will just use the battery more and shorten the lifespan of the battery.

    • @Resist4
