Personally, I would scuff up the paint real good, put 3 layers of primer on it using lighter coats. After that's done I would follow it up with 3 coats of base coat aka the paint color wanted. Once that's done I would definitely put a durable clear coat, either UV resistant or heat resistant. I would use the resistive primer and base coat too. Hub caps can heat up since wheels heat up from tires heating up and brakes heating up once you're breaking. That's just my view on it, if you want those hub caps to last.

+cntcandii Yes, matte is okay to use, the color/finish is completely your preference :) Our preference is a gloss finish just because it has that little bit of shine but again, your choice completely!

Excellent tutorial. I would like ask, why you didn't use a primer on the hubcaps first, before spraying them with the satin black?
Additionally, why shouldn't I use gloss?
just did this on some s70 hubcaps for my 940 because the were in rough shape from curb rash.
