    The tension ring is supposed to be on the inside of all the tabs. And I recommend a rag or rubber mat between your shiny smooth hubcap/cover and the rough concrete ..... Where I live, ony 2x zip-ties will keep those covers on. The potholes flex & bend the rims and you lose the wheel covers if they're not tied on.

    Those aftermarket wheel covers which is shown have two slots on the clips for the retention ring. The very top slot where the ring goes is for a slightly larger rim, if one puts the ring in the lower slot, the ring gives more tension on the clips...if not enough, take the retention ring and straighten it a bit where it bends for the valve stem. That will make the circumference of the ring that little much more, and once installed on the wheelcover, will put that much more outward pressure on the clips, making it fit very tightly.

    The car builders are probably laughing their ass off since they purposely figured out way for consumers to buy additional hubcaps after they sell you the vehicle. What is needed is an aftermarket wheel that doesn't need a hubcap.

    To keep your hub caps from falling off, clean the wire ring and the clips that the ring secure to on the hub cap, take Gorilla Glue or some other good adhesive and apply a thin bead of glue to each of the mounting locations let the glue dry completely for a day or two before putting the hub caps back onto the rim the ring will remain stationary and the cap won't come off the rim.

    • @brianarsenault9281
      @brianarsenault9281  4 года назад +1

      A good tip if you have all the plastic mounting clips. Thank you for taking the time to share it. As a precaution, when applying adhesive to the mounting clip, be mindful that the clip needs to have some flexibility, if it becomes too rigid, the additional stress at the base of the clips could subject them to break off.

      @brianarsenault9281  6 лет назад

      Thank you for your feed back Milomia! It really does help when you consider what you would spend in dollar value for replacing all four hubcaps just for cosmetic reasons. It's a complete waste of money. As a point of interest, if you ever do loose a hub cap and can't locate it, but are lucky enough to have two other hub caps with a different cosmetic look fitting your rim circumference, then remember what people view on one side of your car is not determined by what they see on the other side. In conclusion, you can have two pairs cosmetically different from one another and be rest assured that the viewer does not see the difference, due to their viewing perspective.

      I think your contingency plan is a great idea! As a suggestion, paint all your rims with a flat black spray paint.
      You must first clean the rims of all grease, dirt and grime. if the rims were previously painted with a high gloss paint, I would suggest that you use a fine steel wool to roughen up the high gloss surface before repainting. After the prep work has been completed, when painting be careful of overspray. For future paint touch ups to the rims, revisit these notes..

    A GOOD TRY,.Its certainly a lack of friction where the tabs contact the inside wheel rim. A three of pieces of waterproof emery paper overhanging the small rounded tabs, glued into place using plastic cement or similar, plus your fix will do it. The emery paper is usually enough to make it thicker to hold it in place better also. The wire adjustment might not be needed. After all its mainly a lack of friction on the inside rim that causes it to rotate and fall off. All tabs could be treated that way!

    • @brianarsenault9281
      @brianarsenault9281  Год назад +2

      John I'd like to correct you to your following remark, " it's a good try, " my tutorial is a good solution to a problem that exists with most hubcaps. The tutorial helps prevent hub caps from coming off. Your idea of glueing on waterproof emery is another possible solution. I personally wouldn't remove the ring, as the plastic tabs age they will eventually become brittle and break, making it imperative to keep the ring aligned for support. Thank you for your thoughts.

    if you look at a profession video regarding putting hub caps on you will see that these guys have the ring on the outside of the clips but they should be on the inside and the ring should be with the notch the opposite way by the valve stem. If you do this way the hub caps go on secured. I tried putting mine on like they have the ring and found the same problem they did. Watched the video of a professional and they went on properly

    • @brianarsenault9281
      @brianarsenault9281  6 лет назад +2

      Dear Michelle, you need to view the tutorial again to verify what your saying. The ring on the hub cap was never removed, it's still in the same position as how the manufacturer originally positioned it, meaning the ring has never been tampered with. Nor does it state anywhere in the above tutorial to remove or reposition the ring. The video is putting forth a suggestion only to strengthen existing support clips (found on the hubcap body) a solution that shims (tape) the retainer clips for better adhesion and gripping power when fixed to the rim.

      Let's put it this way Mister Jaime, if you turn a blind eye to loose hubcaps, eventually there gonna fall off. Wouldn't it be best to take the steps and secure them before that happens? When I put forth your question to Tommy-Bob, he says there's a simple solution to all this, either you move on to a better paying job or crack open the piggy bank and get yourself good quality hubcaps. In the meantime, if you got trouble with squirrels getting into your attic; don't you fret none, Tommy-Bob is a squirrel whisper and he knows what to do. ruclips.net/video/as4P8l2YvsY/видео.html
