- Several people were injured when an "extreme" gust of wind rocked a cruise ship leaving New York City late Sunday night, sending objects -- and people -- flying to one side of the ship, according to reports.
Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed that its Norwegian Escape cruise encountered a "sudden, extreme gust of wind" at 100 knots (or approximately 115 miles per hour) and began to tilt toward its port side.
Tony Ciaramello, from New Jersey, was on the cruise ship during the gust and told Eyewitness News he thought he was going to die.

Those making fun of these terrified passengers..are idiots. They would feel very differently if they had been on board the NCL Escape.. They just want everyone to think they are above fear... trying to feel superior..
No different than clear air turbulence when on an aircraft - - yes, you're not wearing seat belts, but sudden weather conditions do occur people. Grow up.
cant list more than 27 degrees or it would flip, unless its changed since i was worked cruise ships but they dont look much different other than bigger and more susceptible
WOWWW these people are overdramatic. im going on a norwegian cruise this sunday and as unfortunate as it would be to be inconvenienced like this i couldnt help but think how much i would laugh at the fools like the lady crying on the floor when i have my heineken in my hand next week
I noticed several guys sitting at the bar who seemed pretty relaxed. It would help if they announced that the ship is not in any danger and constructed to handle the situation. Those new to cruising could use a little extra support.
We were on the norweigan escape last week when the winds of 150 mph hit the ship there were chairs glass broken and some casino games tilted over too we were on the 11th floor when it hit it was a real scary ride

The ship tilted 30 degrees? Really? That’s overly extreme. Looking at the video the list might be between 8-10 degrees. At 30 degrees it would be very hard if not impossible to even stand without holding on to a railing.

For all of the idiots who know everything about everything, the video was taken after the ship eased a bit and also after being forced to the CENTER of the boat. That was my father with the footage and explaining HIS experience. Obviously he could not video tape him falling down and sliding uncontrollably as he and everyone was caught off guard.

@@notagoofy3766 I think anything can happen, but usually doesn't. Which is why it's important to not panic and pull it the hell together. Had it been a real emergency she dies first because she panicked and froze up.

Nope. Was on that very same ship. Was in my suite at the time. I had no clue wtf was going on. Heard the wind, the ship creaking and then all the stuff on the shelves started flying off. Not the best experience for my first cruise

even a sailboat without any sails out can tilt heavily on one side with strong winds, my parents got stuck in a hurricane two times at sea in the 80's and our sailboat was doing 6 knots sideways...I'm surprised this cruise didn't tilt more heavily in the 40/45deg range! Ps: I've been in the escape and yes it is super tall!
@@pepitoaus Yes , I have as well , it is a fun ship , better than The Queen Mary 2 . The Queen Mary 2 ,likes to brag it is an ocean liner and can handle storms well.
