the Tips were good.
He was likely drinking on the job and just thought it was just himself tilting. 😁
He was making his signature 'Capsize' cocktail
Well when something like that happens, yeah people are gonna ask for a drink. The man is a genius
It was his duty. People needed alcohol at that time more then ever.
Slide to the left! Now slide again! Left slide real smooth. Left slide two times! Left slide two times! Freeze: everybody slide to the left!

It was just like the Titanic movie!
Because a couple chairs fell over and everyone made it home safely. Exactly like Titanic
LMFAO!!!
yeah, a bit over-dramatic methinks
Yes I mean I get it was a scary moment. But not like a ship sinking.
Brodha Sattva ROTFLMAO!!! I instantly sucked my teeth when she said that! First of all, you weren’t even born OR on the Titanic to even begin to compare!
Right? Literally everything is compared to the Titanic now.
I guess there were similarities though... like... umm.... the ocean?
Yeah.. that's about it...
Risks to be taken when traveling Mother Nature's bathtub...
True shit! Haha
Plus, there's been plenty of big ship accidents in the past few years, just not worth it.

Rich people always get bored spending so much money to recreate titanic.
Its funny how people get on a cruise ship and just expect mother nature to play along. Your at the mercy of forces beyond your control and people should realise that about the oceans
Inherently, a fair percentage of people are idiots. Screaming, tantrumizing, panicking, maximum melodrama. Shit happens, deal with it. Imagine the meltdowns when real disaster strikes.

The iceberg in front of the Titanic was very chill!
Right?! I mean the musicians played until they felt the nippy water
You mean a ship might roll back and forth in wind and waves? Who would have thought...
Exactly, just as turbulence in the air! 💯 Mother nature doesn't care if you are boarding a cruise ship or a plane. You're at her mercy whether you like it or not. So make the best of it, deal with what you signed up for.
That is the fun at being at sea. The motion
Exactly. I would've made the best of it. Maybe challenged someone to a slanted race or tried to time it do where I jump as it tilts. I don't know but I would've enjoyed it and been laughing.
Brent B, I’ve been on a cruise ship with rough seas. There are actually safety straps available so you don’t accidentally fall out of bed.
I’ve never understood why some people want to be on the upper decks in lounges like in this video. They are usually closed unless some passengers insist on being there.
@@Jennifer-xg3ck I too was in rough seas on my cruise. I was down on the 3rd floor watching the waves come up near the window. Some of us aren't afraid of loving life to the fullest and find fun in crazy situations. Life is too short to live in fear. Go out and enjoy it
Imagine a news headline like this to people who lived in the 18th century. "Wind causes ship to lean."

I was on this ship. Very scary. I fell off my bed, my friend was throwing up from anxiety, lots of people got hurt. Blood everywhere. Won’t stop me from cruising though
Why didn't you go to the top of the boat incase it tips over.
Can you tell me if the captain eventually steered the boat into the wind? I'm wondering why he didn't just do that?
WESTdna Destiny they don’t turn on a dime or nickel or penny!
@@jayyy2159 of course they don't. And assuming the winds lasted longer then it would take the boat to turn, That still doesn't explain why you wouldn't steer the boat into the wind

I love being on a cruise when its super windy and the ship rocks side to side
Listing 45 degrees my eye. The ship would have rolled if that were true. It a was probably more like 15 degrees.
Any tilt over 15 degrees feels like 45 degrees or more. Anything over 5 degrees is considered steep.
@@ecoRfan +5 degrees? Not on my sailboat it isn't.
You're wrong. I'm sure it didn't go to anything like 45 degrees during this event, but the angle of vanishing stability of the 'Norwegian Escape' is 59 Degrees.
Drama, it's not the Titanic.
True lmao
How did that even look like Titanic? Reminds me of Poseidon
Possibly the dumbest thing said by one of these people, trust me the people on the Titanic had a LEGIT reason to be freaking out.
@@therailroader3577 that's a very ignorant comment. When you're seeing the video taken from inside you can't tell how far it's actually listing over. They said it was 20 stories tall so when that gust hit it tipped it from "normal". That would be scary to be enjoying a normal moment on your cruise, then suddenly all the furniture and you are sliding to the other side.
lol, what? How? I ONLY said it doesn't even look close to Titanic, and more like Poseidon. Granted, the furniture did slide (a bit) on Titanic, but Titanic never listed that much. Then, Titanic actually had water coming from literally all directions, these people saw NONE.
I'll never let you go jack
Cruise lines hate to cancel trips. It cost them tons of money. So if it means a few bumps and bruises, so be it.

Priority straight!
Been there done that. Six years in the US Navy. Four years at sea. 3 Typhoons and one Hurricane. When the ship rolls beyond 25 degrees your day has just officially become way more interesting than you ever want it to. I was amazed to see all the furniture not bolted down and sliding across the floor. I have never been on a cruise ship so was surprised to see just how badly prepared they were for this. I was on a destroyer a ship a quarter the size of this one. In all the bad seas we were in I only ever remember remember rolling this bad twice. In the Navy pretty much everything is welded down or secured in bad weather. We still had things break free and fly across the room. Why would something with a sail area as big as this cruise ship allow so many large missile hazards to be unsecured in potentially bad weather?
I was surprised too, not securing for sea, we came through a storm off the Cape Hatteras, from Roose roads had a sailboat on the flight deck along with cars but in the well deck we had a bridge crane brake loose and got caught up with rough terrain for lift and was swinging around the well deck but with some seasoned Boatswain mates they got everything under controlled.
I always thought furniture was anchored down, too. Kind of surprised about that...
@@shannon3944 My wife was pushed by the baby grand piano which wasn't bolted down. And above them a glass railing with unbolted tables. Like being at a mall.
Ray Bergeron Omg...I hope she was ok!!
They don't nail down chairs.... they move them around for people.. and this time.. the wind did... people were over dramatic.. was it kinda scary.. Yes.. but most people that were scared probably get scared at anything
The cruise line should have reminded the passengers the ship doubled as a carnival ride.
The open ocean is scary. I have spent some time on it and know from experience. Hopefully everyone on that ship will feel comfortable going out on it again. I hope everyone who got injured pulls through ok.
Unfortunately that's the jaded thought process of most Americans today.
Someone should have gotten her a drink.😉
The one crying is a child, so let's not jump to conclusions
She was thrown onto the deck, she wasn't just sitting there. There were many 16 year olds crying especially when they don't know whats going happen next,,it was her first cruise. Her friend asked my wife if they were gonna die.I wonder if you have children and if you would defend them to a bunch of ignorant Asshole. You piece of shit.
Ray Bergeron no reason to curse someone out man. We’ve never met. Now, as far as my comment goes, I was only referencing what I saw in the video. It looked like an older women sitting on the floor crying surrounded by others who were doing fine. I understand being scared and even crying if your sixteen years old, however that individual looked much older. I’ve spent hundreds of hours at sea in extremely small boats since I was a little boy. Sometimes in extremely rough weather. But you can’t lose your head. My comment was saying just that. The open ocean isn’t a good place for people who react that way to scary things. They’ll most likely remain terrified of the sea if they survive and share their experiences with others causing them to be terrified of the ocean as well. In that case it would be best not to go to sea. Cursing aside, I appreciate your comment. Now, my question is, did you and yours make it through the storm alright? I hope you guys are all ok Mr Bergeron.
ship might sink?! safety first! grabs a camera.(smh)
I like that the bartender was still serving drinks 🍾🍹🍸
Cruise ships are not ment to cross the Atlantic not even in part especially in the winter .... that was a job for the QM2
Like her and so many of her predecessors that could take whatever the Atlantic could trow at them and ask for more.
All kidding aside, I bet it was a little scary for a moment. Glad everyone is ok and think of the stories y’all will have!!
45% angle ????
Not quite like the Titanic...
That ain't a 45 degree angle 😂
You can't tell without something of reference. The entire ship is tilting, and so are the passengers, so you cant tell.
As someone who has dealt with the ocean in it's many forms, I find this story an insult. The ocean has "A Way" to it and is not inherently dangerous to those that are well prepared. But never turn your back on the ocean or take it lightly or you will pay with your (and others) life.
1st world problems 💯
Lol yeah. Still scary though
I was on this ship last October. We had to deal with a hurricane as well but it wasn't this bad luckily😲
1:13 "..literally like we were almost.." Yuck.
Wow, is ABC actually reporting something that actually happened? Very impressive.
I'm just trying to figure out why the ship didn't just avoid that storm. Just common sense...

I think the people in this clip were pretty damn hysterical and i think if that exact same thing happened say 50 years ago with how society was then, 100 percent of the people including the women would be far calmer and also having drinks.
The story should have been" 20 story cruiserliner handles 113 mph winds like a total boss of engineering marvel". instead it was presented like some hysterical fear mongering bs, typical msm crap lol.
"It was like a scene out of the titanic..." Bitch please, that was nothing like out of the titanic! A gust of wind hit the ship! The boat didn't break into two, it didn't capsize, and you sure as hell didn't end up in freezing water. I understand scared, but don't sit on the floor and cry like it's going to fix something. Going on a cruise leaving out if New York or Jersey around this time a year is not a good idea anyway. It's too cold
Hope everyone is okay, BUT, why anyone would subject themselves to a confined space with thousands of other people and call it a vacation is beyond me.

I don't even know what I would be going through in that moment. I'm terrified just listening to this video. That is a completely traumatizing situation. I didn't even know ships were produced to be that big and only after looking into it, I'm now seeing that this cruise ship is the 12th largest in the world.. I mean, that's like being in a highrise during a hurricane but you're not even on stable ground. My heart and thoughts go out to everyone whose life has been lost due to this storm system, and to the families left to pick up the pieces.
So scary! I'm glad everyone survived this!
Oh hell no ! Glad everyone is ok.
Ain't no cure like secure.
Ships do pitch and roll, get over it or stay ashore.
It’s weird how the ship company or ship didn’t have weather forecasts and realise it was unsafe to set sail.
A 45 degree angle is highly unlikely. 10 degrees, sure and that probably felt like 45 degrees but, again, highly unlikely.
I saw a couple of people there at the bar it seemed not to bother them too much they said I'm already here might as well have fun sliding bar at least the bartender don't have to bring you your drink it'll slide right into you I bet you the drinks for free that day
Why the heck woukd anyone go on a cruiseship? They are free from government oversight not even required to make tables attach to floors. That's why they hang out far at sea so no one can regulate them.
Its totally not the Titanic. There is no iceburg.
I like how the guys at the bar just turn around and watch like "huh, finally, the shows starting"
Unforseen circumstances. A rare event. I would have just chilled out with my family waited for it to end and helped where I can. Only 8 people hospitalized. With hundreds on board. Sound like a decent turn out.

Wow! I was just about to take this particular Norwegian escape Cruise ship at this time but chose Norwegian Bliss from Miami instead because it ended up being the same exact price even with my flight included. It also was visiting more places and better places. Thank God I chose the better of the two because we didn't have any problems. I just got back home 2 days ago and have been looking into taking the next Norwegian Escape Cruise leaving in a couple of days, but....... I really don't know.

There are risks associated with every form of travel.
A regular boat on choppy water at night is enough for me to say forget it, cruises to me seem to be even less safe.
This is where an ocean liner and a cruise ship differs...
Everybody: Panics at storm
After storm: Everybody at the spa.
This is a risk u take when cruising. If there’s lawsuits it’s frivolous.
I'm sure it was a scary experience but 45° angle? No way.

Ha, I've experienced magnitude 7 earthquakes in my home city of Christchurch. Capsize a massive ship that size, with a category 3? Bull.Patrol ships one percent of that cruiseliners weight handle catagory 5 storms regularly in the North Sea, as they do in Southern Antarctic patrols , and not a scratch to either ship or crew.
Ships these size have automated ballast control systems, extra care is built in for this in mind. I'm going on a 13 day Pacific cruise in three months!
