I'm participating at a Game Jam right now and I'm trying my luck with 3D modeling after not doing it for a very long time... And your tutorials saved everything. You explain it so well and make it look so easy and fun. Thank you so much!
Please keep making these! This is the first blender video that I've actually been able to follow trying to learn blender and I was able to follow even without having done a blender 101 video! Ps are you considering patreon? I would pay to watch a blender 101 series from you
@@WinglettEntertainment I Do got a small question, What short cuts did you use to scale your objects in Your UV map to 0? Because my UV map for my model is pretty much all over the place at the moment.
Thank you so much. I have something I want to make in Blender. Our next D&D session will take our heroes to "The Valley of Heroes" Wich is a small medical city with a castle in the middle that serves as a training ground for aspiring heroes and or adventurers. It's surrounded by a volcano from the northeast, forests from the south east and plains from the west. This will be useful since I *really* want to model that place at least in low poly. Shouldn't be that hard with dynamic topology. One of the Masters or mentors is a Dragonrider. One of 17 known. If you have any ideas let me know. I would love to hear them.
If u do that, then the mesh would counted to be two instances by the engine, thus making the game heavier in performance. It is advisable to keep the number of material as few as possible.
Awesome process! Nice and simple. I'm just starting with Blender and I don't understand the texturing part. Wouldn't it be simpler to just select the faces and assign a colour?
He made a texture like this because the asset is for a game. One 3x3 pixel texture for the whole model is easier for the GPU to process than separate material data. If you want to use this for rendering in blender you can just select faces and assign them colours instead
Nice stuff! How did you achieve the grass hanging off the cliff (I can see it in the picture, but it is not part of the tutorial)? Is it a separate mesh or just an unwrapped strip with a repeated grass pattern? Thanks.
Ctrl + Numpad's + (if you dont have a numpad simply press select (on top left) while you are on the edit mode, and find Select More/ Less and click more)
Dude I cannot figure out for the life of me how you were able to delete the area around the knife cut. I rewatched over and over doing EXACTLY what you did and I don’t get the special highlighted area to delete.
hello, i have some question, why use texture and create on photoshop, why not just use base maerial color? is that any difference on the result, thank you
i want to ask, why when i export the cliff into fbx it cannot open and when i open with unity the model are there and the color or texture are not? any help?
You're welcome! Grass is made as individual models in blender. We have 3 or 4 variations. They can then be distributed around the map in the game engine.
hey can you do a tutorial on how to export these types of things cus ive looked everywhere and theres not a tutorial on how to export objects like this whilst keeping the exact texture colours materials im trying to make a low poly unity project but when i import this it is just colourless unless im just being dumb ......i found out more it appears my texture/material is not saved whilst exporting the object so it appears gray do you know how to fix that?
God_Ozai in unity import the object, then create a new material. After that import the image and put it in the material as the base colour, then put the cliff in the scene and drag the material onto it and it should work. With a 3x3 texture make sure there’s no filtering on the image in unity otherwise it will mix the colours.
Leo Romsol if you mean after drawing on the face it selects all that’s normal, just deselect then face you don’t want (hold shift and click to deselect)
This is pretty slow. If you find it fast it’s probably because you don’t have a basic understanding of blender. You should watch some of blender gurus beginner videos.
Just out of habit, since when I’m making assets for my game I make it 3x3, it also helps for bigger objects where you are putting more colours on it. You can make it whatever size you want it makes no difference, whatever is convenient.
Richard RichArt not sure what you are trying to do, X is to delete and I’m not sure why you’re trying to delete anything. What time are you referring too.
Richard RichArt not sure what you are trying to do, X is to delete and I’m not sure why you’re trying to delete anything. What time are you referring too.
Hey, very helpful video, but I have a question. The cliff is made of a plane but if I want to import the fbx file in unity I can see through the front walls, have you any idea, how I could fix that or do I have to make a cliff with a cube?
PovScope yup that just means you have your normals inverted. In edit mode, go to mesh, normals, then recalculate outside and that should fix it. If you need more info google how to flip the normals.
Love the tutorial! Im new to blender so is there a benefit to making those two colors in photoshop rather than just making the materials in blender and applying them to those faces?
Indeed there is! It's an optimization we like to use for game assets as it allows us to use a single material for many different assets since they all use the same texture. In Unity for example, if meshes use the same material they can be batched which improves performance!
im going to blow my brains out ill never be able to learn blender because every tutorial i watch their is always something that i cant do that you or the other people doing
The secred is to just keep at it, with all the frustration that we are not good. Some day in the future you'll remember how it used to be and be happy you didn't leave it
i think that texture making in photoshop is very unnecessary... you can just make 2 materials and apply each on desired faces... an then, make a new image in "image editor" , smart uv project it.... and then bake... you really don't need any third application for that...

Isn’t the whole photoshop bit a tad unnecessary? Just make two textures and assign one of them to the top and one to the cliff face.

I was wondering, why scaling the faces to 0 before putting them on the texture colour? Would not be enough if they fit inside the colour square?

which keys he used to draw the shape of the cliff?

How did you manage to do the grass bits on the side since it wasn't represented in the video?

Yeah we added it after the video was completed, and it was just a repeated grass texture.

Is the massive n-gon face on top and bottom not a problem for game engines?
Reece Kelley , only if the face is non planar. It’s not a good idea in all circumstances but in this case it’s fine.
Preferred texture size power of two not 3x3
Indeed, power of two is normally better, but for such a small texture it really doesn't matter.

Why was the rendered color so much lighter than the colors in the texture?
Maybe because of the lighting?
The object is lighter than the texture due to a bright lighting setup, increased render exposure, and rather strong color grading.
