      Colin Schmidt you assume their unprepared because most of the time they loose. What your failing to realize is they choose to sit down and they are often being taught about the topics crowder is discussing. They have been parts of debate teams, they have been majors in the topics, new cast workers if anything they should be prepared. Crowded did his homework for the side he believes, are you saying these students are too stupid to think maybe he looked up the topic he believes in and doesn’t have a reason he believes what he does without good reason for public knowledge.

      He always brings his folder to all discussions, because everytime someone on the right debates they get asked for sources or data.
      How are you mad that he's got a folder or data to back up his arguments. I just dont get it.
      Perhaps those on the opposite side should be doing the same to make their arguments more believable, but when you sit there with him and throw claim after claim without any data or sources how do you expect people to believe you.

    • @diabetoes
      @diabetoes 4 года назад +61

      @@generaLRager The issue is he is going in to debate people unprepared for it who are just on the street. Clearly they won't have sources and data on them at that point and obviously shouldn't be required to because who the fuck walks around the street with a binder full of stats on social issues. Crowder then just pulls out his own little bibder to make it seem like he's educated and well cited and correct while his opponens aren't when in actual fact he spends all day coming up with these arguments and is carrying stats around to destroy people in debates who just came off the street with no prep. He's essentially unfairly rigging the debate as he has prepared sources and nobody else does, and shouldn't have any reason to either.

      @@generaLRager The thing is he says the debate doesn't need any data and then asks for data multiple times and whips out his binder with dozens of hours spent making. It's like if I said "Let's race but we don't need to use cars we'll just talk it out" and then you jump in your fucking Ferrari and boost off.
      While Crowder does let people look things up (or I guess tries to force them to sometimes) it makes his opponent look weak and biased as they have to use their phone in hopes of finding a study while he's prepared with a binder full of 100 pages making the debate very unfair. In addition like Destiny said carrying around a 100 page binder full of beliefs makes it really hard to believe your beliefs are willing to change. Also just little things like Crowder only having 1 mic and he always holds it allowing him to steer and block out another person's argument is shitty.

    • @generaLRager
      @generaLRager 4 года назад +9

      @@Lors_101 OK firstly.
      He's debating people who are against his position, as such having a binder of FACTS about the topics you cover at Change My Mind events is mandatory.
      Its nothing like your example at all, totally different thing.
      Crowder has his beliefs based on the Facts in that binder, as the topic went to abortion because the guest went there and was stating things about what the medical field accepts as viable etc, ofc Crowder should revert to this binder or chart thats based on the science. Because the guest was claiming various things which weren't accurate and using facts to back up your point isn't wrong and shouldn't be frowned upon.
      Making claims or arguments with nothing to back it up is wrong and should be frowned upon.
      There really is nothing anyone could say here that will make me think him having his binder full of his findings/facts is a bad thing that should be discouraged.
      If you are going to debate someone then you should be doing so from a basis of fact if you are to ever pursuade someone of your stand.
      If you think Crowder will change his mind or his beliefs based on your talking points or feelings then sorry that's not going to work.
      Crowder encourages people to look things up and not take his word for things, do your own research, this i feel is a major problem with debate today, they look at someone on TV or social media and just copy what they say like its fact.
      Ofc it makes someone look weak if they are defending a position without having done the research, and that should be the case. If you are willing to debate or argue with someone having not done your research then you should be ridiculed.
      I dont believe having these events without him having the facts he uses to back up his positions would be very productive if he didn't have them. All it would be is guests saying "do you have evidence to back that up?" "well no, because people watching said it wasn't fair for me to have them" "oh, well I dont believe what you are saying then"
      That would be the jist of the conversation, how is that productive?
      You dont have to believe his stats/facts in the binder, but you can then look into them to see if they are truely true or false.
      See this is problem with having your beliefs based around truths and facts, people will find it difficult to change your mind if you are working from the facts. That's all that matters here, you can argue till you are blue in the face with someone but if they have the facts in their corner you'll never win or come off as stupid.
      If he gave the mic to people they'd probably steal it or run away with it given what you saw at the start of this event where people came to shout and steal his shit.
      You have to control debates sometimes to ensure you get to the points, he doesn't cut people off unless they are repeating themselves. Are you telling me having watched all that event that he didn't let the people speak? He did nothing but let them speak and only stopped them to correct their claims which were incorrect or if someone was repeating themselves.

It’s not the only factor, but one reason black college students end up graduating with more debt than their white peers is because they hold the responsibility of taking care of their families as college grads. However, people wouldn’t bat an eye with a less “spicy” term. The idea is to choose the most scandalous term so it will get a response. The problem then is that you group it with other instances of rape culture where rape actually comes into play. It is simultaneously a watering down of the term, an attempt to make less egregious offences seem worse, and an attempt to obfuscate those offences under the umbrella of rape. It is disingenuous to assume that people will automatically know that rape culture doesn’t refer to actual rape.

    The rape culture take was way off. Not even close to reality.
    Destiny just described some weird offhand dealing with rejection after a date /sexually frustrated men/ nice guy syndrome issue and called it rape culture. That's not how anyone ever talks about rape culture, rape has nothing to do with what Destiny described. Rape culture means a culture where rape happens far more than expected or when some cultural phenomenon results in rape becoming an accepted part of society (think an extension of Hollywood's impact on society argument but rape).
    The main argument appears to be "Everyone I know knows someone who was raped, therefore rape must happen all the time". The left blames it on under-reporting due to the system causing too much trauma for it to be worth pursuing charges, and even those that are reported, are discredited by law enforcement. Extremely unlikely to be true, but it's a logical extension of their anecdotal evidence. According to stats I've seen, ~50% of rape victims are college age, which clarifies why female college students would be the most impacted by rape culture. I would love to see a stat comparing college-aged rape victims relative to other crimes in that age group. There is an unquestionable sex culture in college, rape culture on campus really isn't that far of a stretch.
    The right just says its bullshit cause as a whole rape isn't out of proportion nor is there any evidence of law enforcement malpractice regarding rape. The opposite is often true, some women seem to get an unbelievable amount of credibility despite a lack of evidence. With Kavanaugh and all the other crazy shit mainstream media blew up just to be constantly wrong it's no wonder the right disregards it.
    TL;DR: Top 5 worst Destiny takes, change my mind.

    • @officialasa
      @officialasa 4 года назад +3

      Aspectioner I agree with your take. Although what Destiny described could play into rape culture massively. You even identified this behaviour as nice guy syndrome, which suggests that it is a pattern of behaviours that is observable amongst men who are rejected. (This is conjecture, although i will do a Count Dankula and say that I have watched a lot of r/niceguy videos that show men exhibiting this behaviour).
      Do you not think men becoming angered when they’re rejected, so much so to the point where it is highly uncomfortable for women, may push women into a position where they are afraid to reject men, and therefore sleep with them out of fear of angering them further? I have no stats to back anything up here, though. I’m not too invested in this particular point. Just thought I’d offer my opinion.

      @@tuffdude7795 If there really were many of them out there, wouldn’t you be able to think of a few off the top of your head? In my experience they’re actually quite rare. And there’s a good reason for that: people on the modern left typically see their side’s views as being both obvious and morally righteous. When you feel that you are on the side of the angels, fighting the forces of evil, you feel much less compelled to actually have well-researched positions you can defend via intense argumentation. After all, if you believe, for example, that you’re on the side that is against racism, while the other side accepts or even advocates racism, do you really need to think through that position very much? No, you don’t, because for most people it’s obvious that disliking people based purely on their race is wrong. The error the left makes is that they don’t truly understand the views of many people on the right, which are typically much more complex than simply liking racism, or sexism, or hating immigrants, or any of the other straw men that are typically believed in.

You can however admit that the descendants of slaves have superior living conditions in the US than in most African countries. Because of this truth, you actually can argue logically that black people in the US benefit from what you would call "white privilege". White privilege means having higher living standards. Being white in a place makes it more likely that that place has higher living standards. If you live in a place with people that have higher living standards, you are likely to have similarly high living standards. Destiny is using that argument in the wrong situation. If a black person is walking down the street and I have a choice to yell a slur at them or not yell a slur at them then no I don't get props for deciding not to verbally assault someone. But these are entirely different situations.
    The first situation is more like a king freeing his fathers slaves that would otherwise be his slaves through inheritance.
    Also, you don't get to use the Jim crow caused black people not to have generational wealth argument when it comes to men and women because women inherit what their fathers acquired. They also gained support from white supremacists and religous nuts and were inconsistent so obviously they lost the argument. It took women years to protest and cause disturbances so that the powerful men could finally give them those rights. The only real praise goes to the women who faught for EVERYONE to vote regardless of ideology and without thosesuffragettes, this wouldn't be the case today with the men in power who were so reluctant for centuries. Same for eliminating slavery. I'm sure some slaves wanted to be enslaved too. Its irrelevant. The point is to get that CHOICE and right and men didnt want to see that happen until thanks to the suffragettes who protested until they had no choice.

    Just a thought, males don’t get taxed for condoms (a form of birth control typically provided by the male for sex that is optional) yet females get taxed (luxury tax which is higher than a state tax for items considered “not essential”) for feminine hygiene products like tampons and pads which we are essential. I somewhat disagree with Destinys thoughts during the 'giving women the right to vote' segment. You have to consider the context of the era and the social reality those people were raised into. You assume these were bad people who spent a lifetime treating women shitty and then went "aiight you can vote now, ill pat myself on the back". They went against the social norm of their predecessors/peers/youth and pushed legislation to further equality. I think that is a good action. If you are quick to call out straw mans Id argue the Hitler comment was a straw man. Hitler stopping Hitler makes Hitler good doesn't equate well to someone saw something they thought wasn't morally appropriate and worked t'words changing it. I'm sure Destiny and I could dive deeper into data and find supportive facts. But using Hitler, the leader of a facist regime, is subversive to the way our government is structured. Whats so immoral about amassing influence and then using your influence to better something or right a wrong?
    Also, can we stop comparing people with Hitler so often.. its usually wildly exaggerative and weakens arguments.

    • @yunadener7126
      @yunadener7126 4 года назад +1

      The social movements allow the context in which elected people do their stuff, once you're here with the power and the social backup it is really not heroic to push a progressive law. Also the point is that men do tend to usurp the successes because they are in that position of power that gives them the final word and hinders the struggles that necessarily come before. In fact, a lot of times, elected people are not that progressive and enact progressive reforms only when they feel obligated.
      "Whats so immoral about amassing influence and then using your influence to better something or right a wrong? " That's not how politics work. You do not decide to amass influence, you get to gain influence based on opportunities given by your social background. You also need the work of others to get there and push political projects, you don't just come with your personal ideas.
      The law just formalizes how things already run, the whole credit should be given to those who change how things run, not those who merely acknowledge it by writing a law or just take the opportunity to get elected.
      Btw, nobody was compared to Hitler here.

  • @HeavenlyReaver
    @HeavenlyReaver Год назад +3

    I think to some extent destiny’s issue, or mine, is that he looks at all men as a whole. The laws that prevented women voting were put in place before those specific men rose to power. What you do with power is indicative of your character so the fact that those men, who had no real obligation to actually change that law, decided to do so should be recognized at some level but it shouldn’t overshadow the work done by the groups themselves. Not saying they deserve all the credit but they deserve some credit for using the power granted to them in a positive way.
    Additionally, I’m not certain that the societal privilege granted men exceeds the societal privilege granted to women. I think there’s some advantages and disadvantages to both. For instance a women might have preference when police respond to a DV call but inversely men might be more privileged when it comes to acceptance in certain professions. Or, women might be more likely to receive assistance if she’s seen to be distraught in public while a man might either be overlooked and possibly even denigrated. On the inverse a man might be believed more when making a claim in public vs a women doing the same. My point is I’m not sure I see such a huge disparity here though I’m open to changing my mind on it dependent on the arguments presented.

      @@rimsky225 The Suffragists also had to convince other women. It ultimately happened because the draft for women was removed as a requirement for the right to vote. It's not as if all women were screaming for the right to vote. You seem to be framing this as if all Suffragists were women. They weren't. It's like saying that all feminists are women (and women only) and that there are no women that don't consider themselves feminists, _especially_ the current model of feminism. Many women didn't want to have to be eligible to go to war as that was the stipulation for getting the right to vote. In this very example, women received a _special_ right not afforded to men.
