If only the United States government had a fraction of the character, the tab hunter had. I can’t believe that after all the years I’ve been on the planet we still treat those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and those who went to War and survived so shabbily. It brings me such shame as an American.
There is something missing from this video that is not apparent. He was performing this in front a bunch of screaming girls. The audio in this one has been dubbed. There's another video floating around on YT that has been colorized, but has the original audio and it provides more context.
I was born 51 after Tab Hunter. In 2010 I ran into him at the airport in Los Angeles. I recognized him right away. I went up to him and asked for a picture which he kindly said yes to and talked to me for while. I told him Mr. Hunter for the rest of my life I will regret being born 51 years too late you have been my biggest crush ever and after I saw him in that war film when I was 12 I knew I was gay. He smiled and laughed and gave me a big hug. He said if he was 40 years younger he would have asked me out. He was the kindest man ever.
Oh my god, what a chance you had to meet him ! I often think of the time in the late 50's when he first met with Tony at the château Marmont... The way they fell in love when they looked in each other's eyes.... It's hard to be gay, but we sometimes do console ourselves a little by thinking of this kind of fellings.
My Mother had the 78rpm record, along with several others, and we played them on an old PHILIPS record player; this is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, sung to perfection with beautiful mellow music; absolute perfection from the gentle opening riff to the end.
If he had been a plain-looking guy, he couldn’t have made it as a singer. Girls (and some guys) saw a cute, good-looking guy when they listened to him sing (if they really even paid that much attention to his singing).
I met him at a party in Beverly Hills..a very long time ago. He was slightly older...and I....along with everybody else !...was immed. smitten by his extraordinary looks...and his VOICE...which was as good as his looks were ! LOL Mermerizing. "Young Love' LOL I'd Say !!! lol
Ummm…there’s no way his voice was as good as his looks. He had a pleasant-sounding, but marginal voice. He could carry a tune, but so can any geek off the street.
@@nicholasmiller5146 Well, how was I supposed to know you were referring to his speaking voice? Here we are listening to him singing “Young Love” and you say his voice was as good as his looks. What did you expect me to think?
Back in those days and many years after we all had to "hide" our true love..even today, 2023 it's not so bad, but there are still unfortunately people that look down at us..Tab Hunter, Rock Hudson and probably many more had to live in the closet most of their lives..sad really..I just wish I too was born way after I was, now it's too late I suppose, I just pray that maybe, just maybe I will get another chance in my next life, and stereotyping of ones choices in who they love will not be frown upon..guess it's all up to my Creator..rest easy Tab Hunter and Rock Hudson..❤💋🌈🙏❤️
What a fantastic song . And although Tab didn't have an especially powerful voice , it was , nevertheless , an extremely pleasant one . No matter what he sang and recorded , it would always be easy to listen to .
I remembered from my Uncle's party's! Tab was so talented!!! And had to hide being gay..is this where we're headed to? Wake up people and vote them out!
He was talented, but not as a singer. What do you mean “is this where we’re headed to”? Gays don’t have to hide being gay anymore. They can even get married, or haven’t you heard?
I love that smile it says so much. If you really listen you realized he never says he's in love with a girl. I think he was singing it to his true love at the time.
We were on the same flight one day, I had no idea who he was, but people kept going up to him, and he was always so friendly in a down to earth way and he seemed to genuinely enjoy the attention. That so impressed me when someone explained whom he was. I had no idea he has such a nice voice
I met him in a bar on Clark Street in the early 1980s. Was still handsome as ever. He was in Chicago to promote his film with Divine, a John Waters film that are cult classics now. He looks embarrassed and shy in 1957 with all the attention the girls were giving him.
DID TAB HUNTER EVER APPEAR IN CONCERT? June 26, 2011, at the Sedbergh Folkfest, venue was The Main Marquee, Sedbergh, UK. ALSO Monday, June 17, 1957, at Club Baron, Nashville, TN, and TWO SHOWS on Saturday, June 15, 1957, at the Civic Opera House, Chicago. All three of the 1957 shows also featured Chuck Berry, Brenda Lee, Everly Bros, Eddie Cochran, and the Fuh King.
I love these old videos when they aren't super polished, you can tell he was nervous since he was new to singing, his voice is sweet and nice but not as polished as a trained singer, which has it's own charm. You can see the choir behind him smiling at him lol. I like when you can see the human behind the hit.
It was the Tab Hunter version that we heard in the UK, going to No1 right in the middle of the skiffle boom. I don't think the Sonny James version was released here. Love to know where this recording if from. It's a better sound than the issued single.
I don't know if the audio was cleaned up for this video, but the performance is from The Perry Como Show. It comes up in a really fun interview with Hunter called 'From 2005: The confidential Tab Hunter' here on RUclips.
@@cattuslavandula Thank you. I'd seen Tab Hunter in a few films before this record hit home to someone going through 'young love'! ... He seems quite bashful here. It's a charming memory of far off days.
It is Tab's smile, I think, that makes him so handsome. I noticed this right away in Ride The Wild Surf", playing for one night only in Lake Tahoe's only movie theater, 1964 - or 5 - as my mother wa on honeymoon with my new step-father. Ugh! HA!
I SAW MANY A MOVIE of TAB HUNTER BUT, HE SURE ALSO DID DIVINE JUSTICE TO THIS SONG!!! DON"T KNOW WHO DID THE FIRST ORIGINAL RECORDING THOUGH!!! WAS IT SONNY JAMES???
I was 5 and my teenage sister was 15. She would play that song on her record player in 1957. Young Love is still one of my favorite songs. Born and raised in SF.
Jeez… imagine having Tab Hunter sing this to you Talk about DREAMBOAT I’d say I was born in the wrong generation but, not… both Tab and I were born in the wrong generation! We’re meant to be together Tab, in the next life!! 😂❤
@@BernardProfitendieu Agreed. He may have been good-looking, but his problem with singing was that he didn’t have the heart and soul of a singer. The quality of his voice was good, but his technique was mechanical, dry and unemotional, especially compared to Sonny James’ version. James was a real singer.
The embarrassment singing this is quite evident. Living in the UK I don't remember Tab Hunter releasing a recording of this. However Pat Boone had a big hit with the song. I am so glad Tab Hunter didn't give up his day job for singing. Though he had a pleasant tone.
Tab Hunters brother was killed in Vietnam and left behind a wife and several kids.
Tab stepped up and supported them financially.
I never knew that! Makes me adore ❤him even more.

“sung to perfection”? Your ears must be hearing a different singer than the one mine hear when I listen to it.
@bwsmyhero You obviously don't recognise talent when you hear it! - you're probably a Barry White fan, because he never had any talent!

"Tab Hunter" sounds like a screen-scraping algorithm.
that's because hollywood fake names like that were how they built the algorithm
Finding out he was gay give this song a deeper meaning.
how so?
It does not matter if he was gay. He was a nice person and a talented actor.
But NOT a talented singer. If it hadn’t been for his good looks, he would have never made it as a singer.

This one is a much better version than Ric Cartey's original imo.
Then I’d hate to hear Ric Cartey’s version. It must have REALLY sucked!
Looks like someone is making him laugh off camera.
in his autobiography he said a neighboring proctologist's office could be seen through the window
I always thought this was Pat Boone! 🤦🏾♀️
