I was 8 years old when I saw him in Battle Cry at the RKO on Fordam Road in The Bronx. I was stunned by Tab without a shirt. I still watch for that scene when its on TCM.
I'm 72 now and living in Denver from New York city. I remember this song so well brought tears to my eyes, this time around. I have a list of great performances this is now one of them.
The way the second man from the right looks at Tab' with great admiration is everything.❤❤Tab Hunter is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life. I would like to live in his youth and be among those screaming women.
DAMN he was so cute ! He took it all in his stride. He knew he wasn't a real singer. He had a #1 record with this song and another hit with "Red Sails In The Sunset" . That smile !!!!!!!
What determines who is and who isn’t a real singer? He actually had quite a successful recording career. And in fact knocked Elvis out of first place on the charts with this tune.
As fob1xxi correctly says, HE knew he wasn't a real singer, even if others thought he was. He gets through the song nicely here, however. He had probably already heard real singer Sonny James's version, perhaps had even used it to practice for this TV appearance, and understood the difference.
@@larrydonguy comprehension, Don, its key. I asked who determines who is and isn't. what are the standards/set of criteria? you would need to know that before attempting to read Mr Hunter's mind.
@@jv-ep2tc Not really. Tab readily admitted that he did not have an outstanding singing voice, and it is pretty obvious here that he's trying get through the song without screwing up. If others wanted to consider him a good singer, fine. Lot's of charting pop songs have been sung by folks who didn't consider themselves to be good singers.
@@larrydonguy well at least you called him a singer. i partially disagree with "trying to get through without screwing up". the fact is: he was an incredibly private and somewhat shy person. to sing live on TV would be nerve wracking for most of us, more so for him. he couldn't even look at the camera and the girls screaming made him even shyer. [that is my take on it anyway. yes, he most likely did not want to screw it up]
I can tell this is real singing, not lip syncing. Tab is very nervous but gets through it like a professional. Watch him sigh in relief at 2:04 while his backup singers chuckle. Great live TV.
Such a fresh young innocent voice. So handsome and unassuming. Love that this song became no. One and even beat out a song by Elvis. Tab exudes boyish charm that only adds to his a0peal. So gorgeous. Years later in his eighties he was still devilishly handsome and still had that charming boyish innocence about him. I love his sense if humor and the fact that he never seemed to take himself too seriously.. He still had that be fabulous voice that made hiseem ageless. R.I.P. Tab. We will be always Love You. XXX matg
Nerves got the better of him. More than once he missed the note dead centre, but when he grinned like "a teenager in love" it was easy to forgive him anything. What a cutie pie has was, no wonder my mother got this in an EP with "Red Sails in the Sunset" on the other side. I've still got it.
This song knocked Elvis off the #1 chart to become #1 for an entire month! The innocence of youth hidden behind trouble minds. At least Tab found his happiness!
I picked up a copy of _Tab Hunter Confidential_ several years ago at the Dollar Tree and never got around to reading it for one reason or another. I'm in the part of the book where "Young Love" is still a big hit. Very interesting read, and now I know what the fuss was about.
This is 67 years ago and many of the backing singers were middle aged then and will be long gone. Heck I was born in 1958 and many of my classmates have passed.
What a genuinely nice man. He has got that sort of countenance about him.
What's so amusing is at the end when he breathes a sigh of relief that it's finally over
He was SO cute!! I was in high school when this came out. I was in love with him!! Too bad I didn’t know then that he was gay like me!!
D seelet...
What's important is that you loved him.

I thought he looked more shy then anything, he' was so cute, his smile was even cuter, when he dropped his head everytime the girls screamed. ❤️
I end up smiling wide like an idiot whenevr I watch this. Much love.. ♥️
Excellent rendition . His sheepish grin enhanced his charming performance. R.I.P Tab Hunter.
Whoever colorized it, God bless you and Thank you a thounsand times✌
I never found shyness attractive before but it is so becoming on Tab.
So cute l can watch him every day then i feel good and alway smile when i look at his face

He was so shy & very handsome 😍
BLOWS MY MIND HOW SWEET HE WAS

A very handsome man..... seemed a real nice person
I just want to hug him. And tell him he is awesome
Yeah..... but he's dead...
It was so difficult to exist as a gay man in those days. He found love and happiness soon enough. God Bless him. 😢
Such a stunning looking young man and a great talent.
But not in singing.
Handsome movie star, singer and last but not least, gay icon Tab Hunter. Thanks Tab, for everything! Rest in peace.🕯
He was sooo handsome!
@@jmtz4054 Absolutely I agree.but her boyfriend Anthony Perkins was much more handsome.

6weeks, just came from a short docu hehe
I remember Tab Hunter, I'd forgotten about this song, and to my surprise I still knew most of the words. Lol. 😀
The movie 'Mischief' brought me here.. . In 1984. Jack Warner started Warner Bros records for Tab Hunter. Underrated gem.
Originally broadcast live in color on NBC before the advent of color videotape. Great to see this as it looked back in 1957.
Great to see tab performing this.he had an easygoing and relaxed style.

Beautiful performance
Excellent and charming rendition 👍👍. Rest in peace Tab Hunter.
I was 12 when this was a hit. 😊
I have always loved this song.
So cute
Totally sweet smile
Tab's smile is the secret to his success!
So cute...
Wunderbar. Ein sehr schönes Lied und ein hübscher junger Mann.
Young, beautiful & impishly charming ....too bad he was born a little bit too early....R.I.P. Tab!
He looks like an embarrassed Teenage boy singing here with his sheepish grin. Sort a cute the way he smiles like that!
EXACTLY!
He was 25
SORT A TOTALLY CUTE he was very nervous
it is adorable to watch
@@stephenfermoyle4578 my sentiment exactly. Oh to be young and this self conscious. I love the pure and unedited look of this
Love this colour version...lovely Tab xx
Tab Hunter, you influenced my video of this beautiful song.. Only wish I had your voice. ~George Kelly style... lol
He was the bees knees.
Me encanta como se sonroja

enjoyed!
I love his Kermit the Frog exhale at the end 😂
Oh, so sweet & charming!
Thank God, that's over!, cries Tab. I am all a titter.
And with those middle aged busisnessmen backing him up. Irrestible!
😍 I’d shout the same !
fue amante muchos años de Tony Perkins
🙏🙏♥️🇨🇱
He didn't need auto tune. His little pop records are aging well for me
Incredibly charming, sweet, and handsome man, and a good actor, but he was clearly no singer, despite this song going to #1.

Eating Pat Boone's lunch here.
So yummy 😋
The Justin Bieber of his day !
He was mostly an actor, like Zac Efron who did high school musical but is an actor. The Justin Bieber of the 1950's was Paul Anka.

Did you know Lesley Gore was gay ?
Everybody knows she was gay as well as Dusty Springfield and her brother Rick
He's sweet and handsome but it's a bit painful to listen to this rendition.
A little off
Key😳😊👍
Sonny James' original version was better.
Hush. Let gay people have things
Yikes! Not his best talent …
