No matter how you feel about these movies we can all agree that Michael Chiklis was a perfect choice for Ben Grimm, it probably helps that he is a huge Fantastic 4 fan in real life to the point that he rarely ever turns down autographs for children, he is such a sweet guy on screen and off screen.
Honestly, I really like this one. Jessica Alba and Michael Chiklis played their characters especially well. It's certainly better than the 2015 movie.
Micheal Chiklins was a big fan of the Fantastic 4 comics and he was more than happy to spend hours on the make up for his role of Ben Grimm
Honestly, I love Jessica Alba as Susan Storm/Invisible Woman and Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm/The Thing, but it's really interesting to see Chris Evans as any other Marvel Comics character, aside from Steve Rogers/Captain America.
It was funny to me to see him as Cap. bc I grew up rewatching Fantastic 4 on repeat, so it was like he was a completely different person, being so serious. I do think that this was the perfect superhero role for him to get after Jhonny, because there was no way you'd correlate the two
@@heyitsmira17 Right? Such contrasting personalities. Johnny is a cocky, womanizing hotshot, while Cap is an honorable man with a heart of gold
Ioan Gruffudd was perfect casting for Mister Fantastic.
The character is the definition of a calculated genius nerd, who can be clueless when it comes to romance (5:05 Johnny sums it up), and therefore may come off as cold, but he and Sue have one of the most iconic Marvel romances.
Gruffudd played him perfectly 👌
Sophia simping for Jessica Alba gives me life🤣
This is also during the era when Chris Evans was tight casted as the sly jokester that saw him as the ladies man. From Not Another Teen Movie to The Losers
Ugh Not Another Teen Movie is so nostalgic for me 😂 his sideburns
As far as him playing a smug jerk is concerned, also look to Knives Out.
Fun fact, in the comics, Victor dons the whole Doom mask and cape because of that one singular scar. Because that one flaw made him imperfect
That’s such a cool idea and I wish the comics were more consistent about that it. Apparently there’s conflicting evidence about what Doom’s face actually looks like.
He does it for the one scar at first but then when he puts on his mask for the first time (after forging it himself) HE DOESNT WAIT FOR IT TO COOL OFF and permanently scars himself.
@@toomanyoldsports Omg that is literally the epitome of Verschlimmbessern (commonly used German slang for improving something - verbessern - but thereby making it worse - verschlimmern)
This movie is a huge guilty pleasure of mine, sadly it is the best Fantastic 4 film but hopefully the new one finally utilizes these characters to their full potential 🤞
I remember only watching this movie for Jessica alba 💀 she was my girl crush for a period of time but yeah the fantastic 4 movies were honestly so unserious but really fun to watch
I really like the little wave of early 90s comic book movies we got - The Rocketeer (1991), The Shadow (1994), Dick Tracy (1990)
There was a Fantastic Four movie before this! In 1994. But it was never intended to be released; it was made on a super low budget so the company making it could hold on to the copyright, and immediately shelved. They didn't tell the cast that though, so everyone's really trying their heart out in it. It leaked of course, and you can find it to watch if you want. It's adorable.
You can see the 94l movie on RUclips
@sabalos The 1930's period piece superhero trilogy of the 1990's: The Rocketeer/The Shadow/The Phantom.
Omg when you said “rock versus metal: battle of the elements.” That was the first time I realized that’s what they all are! Reed is like a metalloid like silicon, and Johnny is like a nonmetal like oxygen or chlorine or something, and Sue is like a noble gas!
Victor doom: you can't do this to me, I've started this company, YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I SACRIFICE!
So it may be wrong but I always thought Sue and Victor weren’t actually a couple because she’s surprised by the proposal, only refers to the company for the two years, and he also calls the proposal a promotion - so I don’t think they’re a couple but he’s convinced himself they might as well be
OH maybe?? That would make a lot of sense, but idk, kind of weird of Sue not to correct people if they really weren’t dating LOL
@@SophiaPhannn that’s also true, it wouldn’t surprise me if she wasn’t correcting them cause it happened around Reed and she wanted a reaction haha
Who else thinks that Sophia should watch Hoodwinked? We've been on a pleasant journey of nostalgic bad special effects with the Barbie movie and now this, wouldn't be too bad to add Hoodwinked to the list
I have a soft spot for this movies, it has a charm and likable cast that makes it like popcorn fun
Honestly, I always wished for Sue and Ben (The Rock Guy) to end up together ☺️❤️. It only happened once in the comics.
The two actors from the reboot movie are actually married in real life.
@@brierichardson8462 OMG 😱!! That's makes it even cooler 😁✨.
I will always have a soft spot for this movie. I really like the fantastic four growing up and seeing the human torch finally fly and look real was the coolest thing to me. I also just really liked the cast as well and could really overlook a lot of the stuff going on just to enjoy it as it really was a fun movie
Damn, I never realized it as a kid, but the movie actually tries to sell the idea that Reed's whole "I'm happy for you two", and genuine understanding and acceptance of Susan's decision to be with someone else, was a BAD thing.
And tries to paint Susan's "pls be interested in me when I'm with someone else" as a good thing.
Reed's a damn chad. Knows what boundaries are.
Truthfully I’m not a big fan of superheroes movies cause I kinda get bored. But when I watched the two Fantastic Four movies there are times I got bored and there are times I actually kinda liked it for some reason. Jessica Alba as Invisible Women so pretty, I use to have a celebrity crush on her when I was a kid. 😅😅
I’m bored of them nowadays, which is why I prefer the older movies like the x-men or Spider-Man trilogies
@@SophiaPhannn same here I love the X-men movies and the Spider-Man trilogy
I haven’t seen this movie in years😭 I’m looking forward to watching this reaction! Thank u for this reaction😊 Jessica Alba was my fav part of the movie for obvious reasons👀
Not gonna lie, I've never payed much attention to this movie until now let alone watch it 💯 that's how influence Miss Phans is 👍🏿👍🏿🌹 her awesomeness reigns supreme 👏🏿
Meant to put Influencetial, but auto correct got me. Thanks for overlooking that Sophia 👍🏿👍🏿
I never thought that you would do this take of the Fantastic Four. Shame that this series only had two films.
The fact that you think that all of The Thing's bodily secretions would be pebbles when I'm viewing it as more of a skin disorder (that turns his skin to a rock like texture) why would it change his insides
“little pebbles in you” sophia 😭😭 i didn’t need that thought lmao
This movie was actually my introduction to the Fantastic Four. I was a marvel fan growing up but I was always more into Spiderman and the X-Men so I have a soft spot for this movie. Still more fun than the remake
Hamish Linklater?! I can’t believe it took another decade for his career to really take off after this, he’s probably the best actor among the entire cast
jessica alba in this was my childhood crush icl
Chris Evans doesn't have half the looks that Ioan Gruffudd (Reed) has, I fell head over heals for Ioan when I first saw him in 102 Dalmatians. I even had a picture of him on my locker door in 6th form at secondary school.
I already have Sue’s powers. I can’t create forcefields, but I’m invisible to everyone I know. 😭
Are you okay buddy ?
@@nimansabandara6361 No. 🥲
For me this will always be the definitive Fantastic Four! I can say as a kid I knew Chris Evans before he was Cap. Also Julian McMahon as Victor Von Doom is PERFECT casting!
I read once their powers match how they feel and their attitude. Invisible woman feels invisible to Mr fantastic. Mr fantastic feels stretched trying to keep up with everything. Johnny feels he's hot and he's cocky, Ben feels strong like a rock.
I think we can agree, though, that the 2007 sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer, was a big disappointment.
For much better adaptations of the Fantastic Four, there's a number of animated TV shows and video games that I reccomend, including the 1994 Fantastic Four animated series (in continuity with the 1994 Iron Man and the 1996 Incredible Hulk), the 2006 animated series Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes, and more.
Still the best Fantastic 4 movie though
There's a cheaply made, unreleased F4 movie from 1994 that was made basically to retain the rights to the brand, so yes technically there's an earlier movie.
And as many have said Michael Chiklis is perfect as the Thing and the all-practical makeup is amazing.
I don’t care. I enjoyed this movie so much as a kid 😂 Especially with the way superhero movies are going right now, I even had the GameCube game for this movies
Jessica Alba with blonde hair and blue eyes is... odd, but Thing looks great and Chris Evans is a perfect jackass Johnny Storm. I do feel they mistepped with Reed and Doom though.
Want some more Jessica Alba movies? Have you seen her in Into The Blue or Machete?
Yeah the blue contacts are distracting, but I thought she looked so good as a blonde 😍
If you love Jessica, you should watch LA's Finest. It's a two season spinoff tv show of the Bad Boys movies. Also Chris Evans with a goatee and glasses is probably from the movie The Losers, also a comicbook inspired movie🤗
Oh what I wouldn’t have given to see this Fantastic Four, Tobey’s Spider-Man, and the X-Men in the same movie😢
23:37 in a deleted scene he changes his face into Hugh Jackman’s wolverine
What i liked about the earlier superhero movies is how campy and fun they were. Sure they were ridiculous at times and cringey but they were still entertaining.
2000s superhero movies feel different because they weren't trying to set up the next part of the story. Basically, the modern MCU treats movies as 2-hr long episodes while 2000s superhero flicks were encapsulated, telling a complete story so any sequel was an expansion not an extension.
11:27 Andrea from the Walking Dead plays Ben's wife and she was a crappy character then too.
21:09 Yeah, there are people like that out there. A few years ago, in Germany, where I live, some people were doing that in a city at night and were arrested and tried for that because they killed at least one person as well as damaged some stuff.
This movie is definitely better than many people think. But the villain is kinda disappointing. The sequel has a better one :D
You mentioning Luffy from One Piece because he’s made of rubber like Reed made me so happyyyy 🥹🫶🏻
Sophia, i like this movie, it has heart
glad you watched this, I used to binge watch this years ago
Early in the movie the statue of Von Doom is seen in front of his building. At the end of the clash, he literally becomes a statue.
I need to rewatch this one some day. I remember watching it a couple of times when i was younger but it was more "i like to watch whatever superhero movie there is on tv" but now i kinda got more into Fantastic Four comics (and Reed Richards became my fauvorite guy) and i feel this one actually gets a lot of things pretty well, sure there are changes but the personalities are pretty on point, or at least i enjoy Reed being this very smart guy who is also very dense when it comes to smaller personal things, but is very well meaning. Doom is changed a lot but i like how they kept his rivarly with Reed is kinda petty. I agree its kinda not much superheroing for a superhero movie, but i feel this one wasn't that far from being really good, and man, i love that The Thing is made with practical effects
Another awesome reaction! I really hope the writers and actors get what they're asking for because Deadpool 3 might see the return of all the Fox Marvel characters (like the Fantastic 4)
They really made Jessica Alba strip twice in this movie tho
I know 😭 what was the need
Not a traditional “super hero” movie but have you seen Mad Max Fury Road? It’s one of my absolute favorite films, it helped me enjoy movies again in the midst of a deep depression where I couldn’t get past the fact that they were acting. The world is so immersive, the acting is so good, and the stunts performed by cirque de soleil performers are the whole reason I went to see it.
Little late but to answer your question on how true to the comics this film is it's pretty close on just set in present day similar to the Sam Rami Spider-Man films with a few changes big and small. As an reaction to DC creating the Justice League of American the Publishers at Marvel asked Stan Lee to create a "team" of Superhero's but Stan put his own spin on this and gave birth to the Fantastic Four, more of a family than a large superhero team made up of differant hero's who hide beyond masks. Around 2 years later The Avengers were created bringing together already existing characters and this was much closer to DC's Justice League.
As for the origin of the team itself Reed Richards is working on space Rockets that will be able to travel beyond our moon, storyline set during the early 1960s so heavily reflected the times. The rocket in the end is near finished but the government decided to cut founding leading to Reed gather together a team that being Susan Storm, Johnny Storm who came wanting to protect his sister, and finally Ben Grimm as the Pilot.
They blasted away in the rocket without the approval of the government as Reed didn't want the project to go to waste. While in space halfway into their travels the rocket was hit by cosmic rays and then crash landed back on Earth. Each member then noticed that they started to change this being when they're powers started to show and thus the F4 were born.
For the film they connected the project to Victor and instead of a rocket we got a Space Station. Victor was also onboard when the Cosmic Rays hit giving him powers a pretty big change to the comics. Victor originally never had any powers, basically every ability he had came from his suit worn when he became Doctor Doom similar to Iron Man. Dooms real power is his intelligence.
If you want a pulled from the comics depiction of the origins of the F4 I recommend the video "Fantastic Four Cartoon Intro" by
mschwartz31. It's the second for the F4 90s show and is basically an animated version of the original comic panel just set during the 90s so we get a more modern looking space ship.
No matter how you feel about this movie... STAY THE F AWAY FROM THE 2015 ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually think this Fantastic Four movie was awesome in its casting. This team is really great. People forget that back then Chris Evans was often played as the loveable asshole and he was actually typecast as that. Captain America was a departure from the roles he was getting at the time.
I kinda wanna see you react to Blade with Wesley Snipes. It's another one of those film series that is wild but hilarious and fun.
ARE U KIDDING IM OBSESSED WITH THIS ONE.
Watched this movie A LOT in my teens.
I recommend the Spider verse movies. So fun and emotional. The animation is amazing
I know these two movies had their flaws but with how bad the 2015 one is, these two original ones look automatically better (even though I feel Rise of the Silver Surfer was the weaker of the two, I just didn’t like how they nerfed Galactus and I felt Doom was very much crammed into the plot). At least in these movies the characters felt more like a family than the 2015 one and there was some pretty good humor
9:10 ohhh Hamish Linklater the man that you are...
michael chiklis and Chris Evans are the highlights of this film the biggest problem is twentieth century fox had no respect for the comics
Honestly I saw nothing wrong with these movies 😂. I love them but hey to each their own.
The outfit is so on brand w the FF it’s crazy.
I HAD TO SCOUR THROUGH MY CLOSET FOR A DARK BLUE OUTFIT LOL and I found this romper that doesn’t even fit anymore 😀 it was unzipped in the back HAHAHA
Out of all your beautiful jewelry, I think the best are those beautiful bracelets you have. They make great sounds when you move. Do you agree
Something tells me that people don’t like this movie because they’re just trying to fit in with everyone else and their opinions.. another perfect example is the dark knight.
I hated Chris's character in this movie, the way he treated Ben/Thing 😬
Jessica Alba, was one of my first crushes 😂❤
I used to watch this movie on repeat in my daycare (my mom worked at a casinos daycare so I gotta hang out with her all day 🫨)- but I don’t remember a single thing from this movie lol
i still love this movie chris evans' jessica alba and michael chiklis are perfect here.
I definitely agree that Chris evens character wasn’t attractive in this movie him as captain America yeah he’s attractive this was a nice movie for the 2000s but I wish they could make a better fantastic 4 movie
I think I was always biased that this movie was pretty good especially because of "the plot". She truly carried this whole entire film on her back for sure. There was barely any decent villains in these movies and yet we were all still fine with it lol. Another controversy that surrounds Fantastic Four movies is that Sony Studios has owned them for years, till recently, and they literally would just throw together movies just to keep the rights. - At one point they even had a cheesy horror movie director known for very bad films just throw together a Fantastic Four film just for the very same reason. Quite odd.
When marvel was marvel in 2000,s era fantastic 4 jessica alba😍💙
My cousin in law co founded the Honest Company with Jessica Alba
hi sophia, i love your videos. have u seen raya and the dragon. can you please do a commentary on it please
3:37 I think you're think of the movie PUSH (2009) with Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning
OMG I used to absolutely love this movies. Would watch them nonstop.
I forgot the guy from midnight mass was in this
10:44 Speaking of Luffy, you’re planning on thinking about reacting to One Piece from Netflix? This show..you wouldn’t understand, its so freaking good! The cast is amazing, they really adopted everything right out of the manga and the anime into live action. Straight up pure chef’s kiss!💯
I didn’t mind this movie growing up I thought it was entertaining and funny at some parts and I did like the casting choices as well like the guy that played Victor I thought he was really good plus he really does have that I was born to play a villain kind of look 😊 and I would say that Chris Evans as Johnny was awesome too but prefer him as Captain America ❤️💙🤍and everybody else was really good and do agree with you that way they defeated Doom was creative👍 thanks for reaction Sophia looking forward what you do next 😊😁😉😉
😆 That scene where the nurse is taking Chris Evan's temperature......either you never got hit on by guys that way or you just have to be a guy to under that type of flirting. Anyways, I couldn't finish this reaction after that comment you said
What do you mean by Jessica is now just a mom?
Sophia phan I think you're a youtube gem💎
🥹🫶🏼 thank you
@@SophiaPhannn You're welcome💙
I like it better than the 2015 version

23:46 RIGHT??now... stay with me on this one, her and Silver Surfer in the second movie was THE THING for me, I started on ao3 reading fanfic about them😭
I also watched it just for the plot lol
oh if you get a chance please watch daredevil 2003
You NEED to do the 2nd movie 🙏🏽
I’ll take these first two movies over the 2015 reboot
Anxious how the MCU will handle these characters
You don’t understand. 😢 this movie was made for normies. They didn’t do Dr Doom properly. He is like the basis for DARTH VADER! Supposed to be the leader/ owner of a small European country not CEO of a stupid company 🙄 he definitely wasn’t with THEM on the space mission where they got their powers. Never in a relationship with Sue. then they made Sue into a ridiculously beautiful nuclear physicist 😡 supposed to be a MODEL! (To make sense) dude, I can’t stand this… but maybe it was a necessary phase moving forward towards the MCU
I mean predecessor for Vader- from the 60s comics. Vader followed after in the late 70s
