That's a great idea! I haven't worked with colored pencils in a long time. It was a bit tedious for me, but this would speed it up and be convenient. Thanks for the tip!.
Lots of lovely ideas. I have used the water brush with water sol grahpite and loved the effect. BTW you can layer watercolour pencils and mix colours that way - layer then wet - convenient for travelling as just 6 pencils needed maybe some brown to mix a good black too.
Yay!!! This comment just makes my heart sing😃. I've been working on new videos this morning. So glad you found me, and I hope I can continue to inspire you in your own artistic journey. Thanks for watching!♥️

That's a good question, I haven't thought to try that. I bet it would work.i would probably store the point upright so the MS aren't always flowing through the chamber. . The brush might last longer that way. I would definitely try it for the convenience. Use a pipette to load it. Please let me know how it works.
Most of the paper is Strathmore 140lbs. My favorite is Arches 140lb. but most of my journals are made with watercolor paper. Sketchbook paper is too thin.
A variation on that is to make swatches on a stiff card with each watercolor pencil in your set. You can carry that card with you, and pick up colors from it with the brush. It's a flat watercolor set that you can carry with you and keep tucked in the back of your pad.
so, do you use just 1 brish for all colors? or have a couple to use? cleaning/refilling would take quite a bit of water - right? i have one- but rarely use it isnce i am not sure about lugging extra water whereever i go LOL
One brush for it all, it's filled with water, not paint. I dip the wet brush in the paint to pick up the color, wipe it on a paper towel to clean. One water filled brush will paint several small paintings.
No I haven't tried that. I hesitate to add too much water to acrylics because they loose their viscosity. If I want a wash, I'll just use watercolor because they are more transparent.
@@Mragy666 I personally would not. Fluid acrylics and inks may work, but when acrylic dries, it dries hard. I would think that would ruin the brush, and if you water down acrylic paint too much, it loses its viscosity and won't adhere to surfaces as well.
Most of the ones I have came in a group when I ordered 100 half pans. 50 magnets came with it and they fit the size. However I have had to reglue many since the self-adhesive doesn't always stick. Got these on Amazon I have also bought a roll of magnets and cut them to fit. These magnets are a little thicker and stronger.
Ooo, yes, filling with acrylic ink works great. Havent had any trouble at all. I store them flat. Its handy to have at least 2 different dilutions for sketching.
@bobbuethe1477 sorry to take so long to respond. I think i started with Platinum Carbon black because its what i use in my fountain pen. Its supposed to be less cloggy. Ive refilled my light and midtone brushes with liquitex acrylic ink. Havent had any noticeable problems.
Thanks so much for sharing these tips. New sub!
Yay!!! I appreciate every single new sub! I really hope what I share is helpful. Happy creating 😃
I looove my water brushes! They make such a big difference for plein air. Chefs kiss!
They absolutely do!!! So convenient and allows me to paint literally anywhere with very few supplies. Thanks for commenting 🙂
#8 - Fill with Gamsol and use to blend softcore colored pencils. 😁
Thanks for the video!

Since Gamsol is a solvent, wouldn’t it damage the plastic of the water brush? Have you actually tried it? I was thinking of trying it with Zestit.....
Congratulations on reaching 1000+ subscribers! Keep going!
Thank you!!!
Very helpful. Thanks!

I'm curious about filling the water brush with mineral spirits to blend standard color pencils.
That's a good question, I haven't thought to try that. I bet it would work.i would probably store the point upright so the MS aren't always flowing through the chamber. . The brush might last longer that way. I would definitely try it for the convenience. Use a pipette to load it. Please let me know how it works.
It works just fine for me. I've done it for about 4 years
What paper are you using?
And how thick is it?
Most of the paper is Strathmore 140lbs. My favorite is Arches 140lb. but most of my journals are made with watercolor paper. Sketchbook paper is too thin.
Fountain pen ink can be used.
Thank you! I haven't tried a fountain pen, it may be time😊
My favorite thing is to use the waterbrush to pick up color directly from the watercolor pencils.
That is a good idea. Thanks for sharing!

I've seen the commercially made one, but I never thought of making one myself! I might just have to try to that for a super light option. Thanks! 😊

Have you by chance used these with acrylics? Maybe using them for washes in acrylic.

Can I put acrylic paint in a water brush please

Kari. What size are the little magnets you use to hold your watercolors in place? And where did u get them?
Thks

I work on cookies. Can I use everclear, with airbrush colors?
I haven't tried it, but I would guess you can.
Fill the brush with ink/soluble ink?
You can, but i havent.
Ooo, yes, filling with acrylic ink works great. Havent had any trouble at all. I store them flat.

@@raerae6422 I haven't tried it, but I've heard people say that the brushes clog quickly when filled with ink. What brand of ink do you use?

Btw. Shades don’t have colors. Ha, ha
