as a filmmaker who also edits my own films, I wonder your thoughts about the improvement scans of these 4k releases of older films - are they artificially adding "data" that wasnt there when it was filmed...are things being changed from the original films vs just simply scanning the original to deliver it to us in its best quality that we couldnt see before? are the color grades being altered? is the film grain being removed or altered? are darks and lights being altered? is it being over-sharpened artificially after the fact to where it "looks digital"? Movies filmed on film had a soft creamy look to them that made them "look like movies" vs digital.... in other words, they had a specific "look" to them - a look that digital filmmakers when I started making movies 15-20 years ago were desperate to recreate with film grain plug ins, film scan overlays etc....Im wondering if there is a lot of post production digital and artificial "tinkering" being done to where the films look digital rather than filmick and are they changing the original filmmaker's vision and intended look for the film instead of just scanning it as is and giving us the higher resolution it was shot in? Rocky was groundbreaking with steadicam use and that steadicam used a lot of 16mm film which is not 4k....so is that being increased artificially? great videos!

Just to give u a heads up if you're not aware their a disck replacement program in place for this because of botched auido problems..Rocky one especially is missing the piano que when the final bell rings that completely changes the vibe and in my opinion ruins the most important part of the movie.

Rocky’s are good movies . If you have blue rays than I don’t think 4K is that much of an upgrade. Thanks Rob

Greetings from a Dub living in Orlando.
Have to finish this boxset but only got through 1-2 so far.
1 looked fantastic, most notably scenes looked brighter when they were darker before, and looked like it could of been filmed last week.
2 looked ok, nothing major stood out or was bad, colours were great.
I saw Rocky V Drago in the cinema and loved it!
I love the original IV too, but R V D is a completely different movie and makes it more serious which I love too.
I’m just happy they are on 4K finally, all we need now is directors cut of and bonus features for 2-5!

It would have been good if they had included Rocky V and Balboa in this set. 😎

    Hi
The original aspect ratio for rocky 4 is 1.85:1. When the DC was done they changed OAR to 2.35:1. Don't know why. The TC cut should still be in 1.85:1. Thanks for the review

Shit i already have the blu ray set and I have the directors cut of 4 on vudu. After watching your review i dont think I even want this 4k set any more. Especially since its inconsistent. At least the blu rays look the same throughout each movie.

It's a really nice set but pointing to the elephant in the room Rocky V should be included. Its a continuation of Rocky IV of sorts with Rocky sustaining life changing medical results and Paulie losing Rocky and Adrian their lifestyle.I know it's a different franchise and company but this happened with the 4K release of Star Trek releasing a 4K box set of the movies 1 to 4,and then suprise suprise releasing 1 to 6 not long after.I expect that to happen with this.I do love the Rocky movies so much.Great review on the box set itself.

Thanks for watching Brian, agree, 5 should’ve been part of the set, an d I suspect another set is coming.

It’s likely either a rights issue (also affecting Rocky Balboa) or if the rumours are true, they’re currently tweaking those films for an alternative cut as they did with Rocky 4.

Great review. Yes it should be Balboa vs Drago and I do have the Rocky undisputed collection but ofcourse I gotta have 1-4 on 4k cause I love Rocky . I was 7 when I watched Rocky 3 in theatres in 82, loved them all .

Could the 4mins off on Rocky 4 be a misprint relating to the old differences in running time back to the days of PAL vs NTSC?
There’s a lot of reports out about the pitch being out on Rocky 2’s soundtrack - sounds like it was set too low and then comes back to the right pitch near the end.
Also, they messed up as the theatrical soundtracks are not the original, but a stereo downmix of the 5.1.

Hi Ben, has to be a misprint. I noticed the pitch raise at the end of Rocky 2 alright!

@@themovievault people are kicking off about the lack of the original mono soundtrack. Doesn’t bother me particularly as I tend to go for the 5.1 mix as standard, but I know a lot of purists cherish the original mono. I think it’s quite a big mistake. Adam at movieguy365 rated the audio on Rocky 2 an F (he’s normally quite forgiving/generous) due to the sound being down on Rocky 2.

      I’m a 5.1 / 7.1 guy when it’s available on the disc

overall not terrible but I can't help but feel this is a massive opportunity missed, I think this is the biggest disappointment of the year so far considering how long we have waited for a 4k release of these movies. But I'm happy to have them and a minor improvement over the Blu-ray's

Is not a real restauration, is a cheap upgrade to 4 k, the bluray difference is minimal, a real fraud
