What’s concerning me is the lack of Atmos on physical copies but they include Atmos on digital copies…call me a conspiracy theorist, but I feel this is totally done on purpose to discourage us from buying physical media and buy digital…and one of the reasons I say this is look at all these companies dropping physical media.

George Lucas is an easy target for most and I think that’s put American Graffiti in an unfair position among us physical collectors. Movie Collector’s review of the 4K transfer I think does a better job at explaining that the transfer actually looks closer to what it looked like in cinemas upon its initial release and how the way it was initially shot (in techniscope) could provide some important resolution context that a lot of people seem to have overlooked in favor of pulling out the pitchforks and torches again.

I haven't seen most of the notoriously terrible 4Ks like Terminator 2 and Pirates of the Carribean. However, I did watch Love, Actually a few nights ago and it is easily the worst I have ever seen out of my collection of 200+ releases. It doesn't just seem like someone did a bad job with the transfer, it seems like the wrong video file was put on the disc. It is atrocious at times. I feel like if this was a geek culture centric movie, there might be enough of an uproar to have Universal take notice and maybe do something about this. But since it is just a rom com, my guess is that this won't be addressed, and we will just have to wait years for some arbitrary anniversary edition and cross our fingers.
EDIT: I just went to Universal's site and used their contact form to see if they have any comments on this. I doubt anything good will happen, but it is worth a shot.

Here are a few that I have had issues with this last year
number three: the last four Chucky movies by Scream Factory because the first three were chock full of special features and the last four had a few but not that many, I think as of late Scream Factory has been dropping the ball a bit as far as special features go. Number two: Warner's edition of Enter the Dragon,. Because they put both versions on the same disc and not with seamless branching, both full movies which takes up a lot of bitrate. And my number one worst 4K movies of the year: both Avatar movies and that is because of the agameless way Disney handled the home video releases They both came out about 4 month ago with hardly any extra features and only the theatrical version on part 1. now, VOILA ! this month they come out with four disc versions of both films with loads of extra features and the two other versions on the first part. Now I know Disney knew what the hell they were doing and they did it this way on purpose to make fans of Avatar double dip, shame on you Disney!

I’ve even read that one of the quality control personnel wanted to go over the audio before finalizing, and they refused to allow him (something along those lines, anyway). This adds insult to injury, as the person made a statement that he would have caught the error, and the correct 5.1 mix would have likely made it onto the discs. Well, I don’t know about the whole thing on at most on digital streams, every this guy ever owned/UHD, Blu-ray, and I do own a lot usually have at most or DSX before digital, a perfect example is Independence Day and Jurassic Park, I will purposely put on my desk before streaming them simply to have that DTSX atmospheric experience, especially with those movies, since they’re very affected driven Scenes, and it’s not as much as being an audio file to have at most or DTSX on the disk it’s the nature of the content that we are deciding to purchase digitally or UHD, Blu-ray, movies from back of the day/70s, and 80s were always mixed at a certain standard, Either 2 to 4 channels but everybody keeps forgetting the fact that they were tracked in 24 to 48 different tracks before it was mixed down to those formats back in the day, the only advances we have now is everything since 92 on up, at least 80% back in the 90s is digital audio rather than Analog tape, even the cheapest movies like alien and terminator, which had only a couple million dollars to work with had over 24 to 48 tracks or in between, perfect example of this is enter the dragon, which was released in 73, of course, they gave it an at track, But we didn’t get lost boys or potter guys, that’s a huge movie, poltergeist, one of Steven Spielberg, first Classics, ET, and we even got ET as an example of DTSX only on the UHD Blu-ray, it sucks that there’s not an Atmos alternative online for streamers for these particular movies, but yeah, I’m rambling, good list, I agree with just about every pic

Doesn’t anybody look and hear a title before its goes to get duplicated for release. Anyone remember the mess Paramount did with Star Trek 4 blu ray disc when they dnr the shit out of it. What they did with Gladiator on Blu Ray. Paramount did right with Gladiator with the transfer and replacement copies. My point is studios must think we’re pretty stupid and don’t notice these things. I’m sure it costs studios a lot to correct discs and replace them. My point being if they did it right in the first place they would save money. I just picked up Love Actually and I agree. Some scenes did look good, but to my eye, so many scenes looked blown-out like they tried to raise the brightness level too much. (I find this very weird since too many 4k movies look too dim. Love Actually is the first example I've seen that looked too bright / blown out.) If it helps people reading this: I watch on a 77" LG G2 OLED in either Filmmaker or Cinema mode, depending on the HDR format and what the LG set allows. (In other words, I try to watch in the most accurate setting; I never watch in Vivid or Standard modes.)

I disagree with your shade on American Graffiti. I watched the 4K disc last night and find the transfer very good and very clear.
I for one like the scrubbing if the digital noise/grain m. I find it very distracting to see a bunch of dots / snow on the screen.
I did not find the faces as waxy. I thought it looked good, so maybe thats the price to pay for no dots/noise.
    I also like T2 😊

This list is a reminder on why, even though I do have a pretty decent 4K collection, the Physical Media of choice is still Blu-Ray. Blu Rays bring the bang-for-the-buck with visuals, audio and bonus features let alone the cost savings. And at least with my setup, there is no visual difference between 4Ks and Blu-Rays 👀
